GREG COTE'S RANDOM EVIDENCE BLOG: MIAMI. SPORTS. AND BEYOND.

Mestudio1) It's FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23. Hope y'all had a very happy Thanksgiving! 2) Enjoyed sitting in with ESPN's Randy Scott on the LeBatard Show Wednesday. With Randy by phone from Bristol, I was in the Big Chair (Dan's seat), as pictured. I was out of my element, but the pros around me made it easy. 3) Football is raging and the holidays are upon us. That means it's the perfect time to delight Dolfans you know with the gift of our 'Fins At 50' book. Check it out on Amazon. 4) In The Previous Blogpost (ITPB): Herald NFL QB rankings, Pix 'n Fantasy results, college State of the State, new Back In My Day video (Banking!) & more. 5) Join us on Twitter @gregcote. HappythanlsA PERSONAL THANKS, FROM ME TO YOU, ON THE HOLIDAY MADE FOR THAT: Thank you, readers and listeners, for continuing to allow me to have the career I never imagined I would. Thank you, Miami Herald and ESPN Radio, my professional families. Thank you most of all to the family I have known and loved longest, my wife and two sons and, now, my first grandchild, who will turn 1 just before Christmas. Her arrival has been a joy beyond any expectations or dreams. She has enriched our lives, which seems a cliche' even as I type the words, except that first-time grandparents out there are nodding, I'd bet. This has been a challenging year for me. The newspaper industry is evolving, transitioning digital, and I am trying to keep up. I went through a health scare, with major surgery in September to remove a benign tumor lodged near my lungs and spine. (And thank you, Dr. Irving David!) That reminds me of an old line from Don Shula. Asked once if a player's surgery was "major," Shula said, "If it's happening to me, it's major..." Thanks, again, all of you!

On Thanksgiving, the NFL's 13th year (hard to believe) of Turkey Day tripleheaders gave us nonstop football for roughly 11 straight hours. What were you sicker of by midnight? The thought of one more bite of food? Or the thought of one more damned penalty flag? If you're like me and my family, this day was about friends and relatives and gratefulness and turkey, but the football was a constant soundtrack and backdrop -- sort of the glue that knitted the day. We went 2-1 overall and vs. the spread on the day's three picks. Correctly had the Cowboys and Saints winning and covering, but misfired on predicting a Lions upset. Visit Thanksgiving Day Gems for the proof.
