Hurricanes back in OB game, where UM first got America's attention 34 years ago: Click Where The Swagger Was Born for my latest column, on Miami's first Orange Bowl game appearance in 14 years.
Thank you, Orange Bowl Committee: At today's OB coaches luncheon at the Hilton Downtown Miami I was honored to receive the 2017 Edwin Pope Orange Bowl Media Award. Honored because I respect the Orange Bowl Committee's good works, and especially because the award is named for my friend, longtime colleague and mentor who passed away last January. Thanks to all. UPSET BIRD DAY IN AMERICA! NFL WEEK 17 PICKS: DOLPHINS END ROTTEN SEASON IN SPOILER ROLE. ON MIAMI-BUFFALO AND THE REST: Nine of NFL's 12 playoff teams have been claimed, with six teams alive for the final three spots entering Sunday's regular season finales. Alas, the Dolphins are not among them, relegated to a spoiler role, trying to deny visiting Buffalo its first playoff berth since 1999. Will Miami do it to end a disappointing season on the upbeat? Click Week 17 Gems for my full Dolphins-Bills predix capsule, my Game of the Week (Panthers-Falcons), Upset of the Week (49ers-Rams: "Aawwk!") and the rest.
ANNUAL YEAR-IN-REVIEW POLLS COMING: Soon, in the blog and also online, we'll invite you to vote for what was the biggest national sports story of 2017, and then separately for the biggest Miami/South Florida sports story of the year. Watch for the National poll starting Tuesday Jan. 2 and the Miami poll starting Friday Jan. 5.
