Correction to report about Pat Riley & LaMarcus Aldridge

Yesterday, I posted a link to a Yahoo! story with a lengthy excerpt about Pat Riley's offseason pursuit of LaMarcus Aldridge.

Included in that story: an account of Riley proposing that Aldridge take a one-year deal with Portland to wait for the Heat's 2016 cap space. That had been a rumor circulating at the time of the meeting, so it fit with that narrative.

I'm told tonight, however, that the account is inaccurate.

According to sources, Riley -- who had no cap space -- did want Aldridge to wait for a payday with Miami, but he wanted Aldridge to do that in Miami.

He offered the Heat's mid-level exception, which would have represented an enormous pay cut.

Either way, Aldridge didn't bite -- understandably choosing the combination of money and winning with the Spurs.
