I used to work at a zoo where I had an office with a window overlooking a pen with a "creep" (group) of Galapagos tortoises and it became routine to see them after awhile. Looking back, I guess that was more interesting than I thought at the time.
Also, my wife and I heard a loud bellowing sound at the National Zoo in DC during a visit in the 90s and searched for it out of curiosity. It turned out to be a couple of these tortoises going at it (at least the male was based on his bellows).
They are good eatin' - taste like chicken.
