Here in Texas, we also use beans to ward off evil spirits. After consuming a generous serving with our famous BBQ and beer, we fart in their general direction. Mischief managed.

In NOLA they throw beads instead of beans but that's not until March fourth this year & still not the end of winter.

My son and his wife just returned form Japan, a late honeymoon trip. No mention of the bean-throwing ritual, but...this is *important*. They did mention witnessing seeing a lot of women wearing mini skirts. Men, plan your upcoming trip responsibly. Responsibly meaning contain your excitement upon hearing of this uplifting fashion statement.

Is there a special kind of bean for this or will any kind of bean do? And I'm assuming that the beans are uncooked, right?
