A similar fate befell her pet ferret and the tragedy was made into a song...

Jury selection for this crime should be interesting. The lawyer for the defendant will throw a fake spider on the potential jurors and see their reaction.

Now if she had drowned a roommate's grubworm wearing a turtle neck *THAT* would have been something.

What if she used Canada Dry, or ginger beer?

Take off and nuke the entire site from orbit...it's the only way to be sure.

This is a natural reaction to spiders, regardless of the roommates' conduct, for several reasons. Although humans are not strictly "hard-wired" to fear eight-legged creatures, there are several factors that contribute to why many people have aversions or fears towards creatures like spiders and octopuses:
Evolutionary preparedness: Some researchers suggest that humans may have an evolutionary predisposition to quickly detect and react to potential threats like spiders. This doesn't mean an innate fear, but rather a readiness to learn fear quickly.
Cultural influences: Fear of spiders is often culturally transmitted. In many societies, negative attitudes towards spiders are passed down through generations.
Learning and experience: Personal negative experiences or witnessing others' fearful reactions can lead to developing a fear.
Appearance: The alien-like appearance of many eight-legged creatures (especially spiders) can be unsettling to some people (i.e., "icky").
Movement: The quick, unpredictable movements of some eight-legged creatures can trigger alarm responses.
Venomous species: The existence of some dangerous spider species may contribute to a generalized fear, even though most spiders are harmless.
Media portrayal: Negative portrayals in media can reinforce fears and phobias.
Just remember: You are within 7 feet of a spider no matter where you go (except the poles).
