Flushing the toilet with the lid down does not stop the spread of small germs, So, it stops the big ones then? These germs must be the size of snakes!

So if I am bent over the toilet bowl retching my guts out is it better to put the lid down or leave it up?

The most "energetic" toilet flush I've ever experienced was in a hospital toilet. That thing left the walls, the floor, and my body damp.
By the way, there was no lid. Not in any of the hospital johns I've had all too much experience with.
Makes you wonder.
