Phoenix previously touched upon the film’s historical accuracy when he told Empire magazine:
"I used an actual piece of Napoleon's brown pants I acquired at auction when I filmed the surrender scene.

Some of the criticism was justified. There wasn't enough wine and cheese in the show.
