Finnegan's Wake is pretty ambitious for a book club. You probably want to warm up with Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Doesn't hurt to have Irish ancestry, or at least a supply of Irish whiskey close at hand. It takes some doing to apprehend Joyce's state of mind.
