Hard to believe it's been 22 years. Here's an essay I wrote for the first anniversary.

Thank you, Dave. It is a somber day to remember indeed.
At breakfast, my grandson likes to look up the weather. Today, he stopped and said, "Wait a minute .. today is .. is .." Yes, it is, I said. He changed his clothes to wear red, white, and blue because it's important to give this day a proper remembrance for those whose lives were lost, even if it happened years before he was born.
Many times our commenters have posted their stories and memories of that day and the days that followed. So I say from my heart: Blessings to you all on this day.

Yes, it is very hard to believe it has been that long. For those of us who were close, it is certainly a day we will never forget.

Never forget.

To all who acted as heroes, or who were simply innocent tragic victims, who perished or survived the tragedy, know that you are remembered and missed by your loved ones and by many more, and that we who watched in horror will not forget you or that unthinkable event. Not ever.

Dave,
Not the only column you wrote about the event. Here's a link to one written just two days after the attack:

(Probably have to copy and paste...)

Reading the essay for certain brought home the terror of it all.
It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory -- hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.
Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA.

Read today that two victims have recently been ID'd through DNA (identities not revealed according to familys' wishes), while the remains of another 1,000 have as yet to be so. I'd like to say RIP, but until the truth comes out, this seems premature & inappropriate.

Rebekah Roth's Methodical series might be an enlightening rabbit hole to fall into on this day which shall live in infamy.

Dave, your legacy may be your columns about exploding toilets, bad songs, colonoscopies, and the evils of squirrels. But this column is one of the best you ever wrote. Those damn onions get in my eyes every time I read it. Thank you for setting it down on paper.

Thanks for that, Dave.
