I'm a roadgeek, and the official explanation still makes no sense to me.

Sometimes you just can't get there from here.

Can't go left, can't go right, can't go straight ahead. Sounds like a dead end.
They must've gotten that sign from Washington.

It's probably like a lot of roads I discovered when living in Rhode Island. The street is one-way in one direction, and one-way the other direction on the other side of the intersection (toward each other, of course). So pretty much all you can do is turn around and go some other way to where you're going. Assuming you can find some other way that gets there, which often you can't.

As if anyone obeys road signs anymore anyway.

Were they making special signs for the covid lockdown?

Did anyone else notice the Tim Horton’s in the background?

Why didn't somebody steal the sign?

@MOTW: but then why would such a road have two way traffic up to the intersection?

Arrgh, I meant @Rod, regarding the Rhode Island explanation.

The Southwestern Ontario city officials apologized to all for their error in placing the sign. Thanks to all who pointed out that the sign was upside down.
