He had to get close to the sign to read the number, since his vision wasn't functioning the best at the time.

Can see where there might be some confusion from the information available. I mean, fast food places advertise they have a 'drive thru window' so to some that might mean just 'drive thru the window'. I can see where this type of information presented as such could be confusing. Sort of like advertising that offers a 'free gift'. Imagine the kiddies at Christmas when they have to pay for their gifts - "Sorry, these are not 'free'gifts this year - you have to pay."
