Somewhat relieved to discover that this page doesn't exist having never been a fan of Advanced Placement courses.

They deleted it. Associated Press advice stylebook advised writers to avoid dehumanizing terms such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, etc.
So commenter had a lot of fun on Twitter.

Here is the original Ap twit:
We recommend avoiding general and often dehumanizing “the” labels such as the poor, the mentally ill, the French, the disabled, the college-educated. Instead, use wording such as people with mental illnesses. And use these descriptions only when clearly relevant.
Some comments:
People experiencing Frenchness.
It’s okay to dehumanize the French.
Just to be clear, instead of saying "The French" I should say "people with mental illness"?
Nothing is more dehumanizing than being called French
My guess that French Embassy objected.

Can I still get college credits for it?

So I guess I'm not supposed to mention "the woke" at AP.

Let's not articulate, people.

Why? THE French have contributed so much to the world, e.g., the French kiss, the French handshake, the French fry, I could go on. Plus France has hosted so many wars, conflicts, and such. The guillotine would still be just a kitchen implement if not for its use in political affairs, cake would just be a product of the kitchen if not for Marie A., and world wars would never learn the lesson of do not attack Russia in the winter time. For example, 1930's Germany did not learn the lesson that Napoleon left. Formidable.

Besides, the point is moot as everyone knows that the proper term is ZE French anyway.

Ah, many thanks for the update. Good to see the Postness of the Big Apple aerving an informative role for once.

Is it still okay to disparage the college-educated by calling them Joe College?
Posted by: Mad Hatter | January 27, 2023 at 10:31 PM
@MH It depends on the amount of diesel fumes Joe has inhaled over spring break.
