As far as I know, there is no scientific organization that assigns English names to spiders. The spider is officially named Araneus mitificus in Latin.
In general, whoever describes a species first gets to name it, subject to revision (as in this case) with advances in taxonomy, not petitions.
If we are going to have corporate sponsorship of spiders, then they deserve royalties and promotional items like fly-flavored Pringles.
