THURSDAY NIGHT LIVE
I had the pleasure of "hosting" an event last night for the Miami Beach JCC featuring two members of the original Saturday Night Live crew: Laraine Newman and my old buddy Alan Zweibel, who was one of the writers. They told many funny behind-the-scenes stories about SNL and talked about their books -- Laraine's is May You Live in Interesting Times (and did she ever); Alan's latest is Laugh Lines: My Life Helping Funny People Be Funnier. My job was mainly to listen to these two great comedy pros and laugh.
Thanks to the advance team for disabling the fire alarms!

Looks like you may have had to drink some coffee too. I'm sure you earned your money for that job.

More Dave...

Odd coincidence - I am going through my collection of the late great Terry Pratchett's Discworld books, and am currently on the one titled Interesting Times. Therein, the most offensive curse the extremely polite Agateans have is "May you live in interesting times".

Ron G in WA--
I too, am a huge Terry Pratchett fan I have the entire collection of Discworld along with the 3 BBC movies. I was especially glad to see his collaboration with Neil Gaiman, Good Omens, The Nice and Accurate Predictions of Agnes Nutter, Witch, filmed into a too short mini-series.
Yes, "May you live in interesting times." was a spot-on curse, as we know all too well.

I love Laraine Newman! She was one of my favorites on SNL. I wish I could have seen this. I also like Alan Zweibel.

Alan spoke to my writers' group by Zoom last month, and not only was he hilarious, his stories were amazing.

Le Petomane -
That's great, always nice to come across a fellow Pratchett fan! I try to subtly spread the good word about his works whenever I can.
