Man, what a great and wonderful scientific break through! Sheesh, imagine being able to take trips and never leave home. Of course the house will have to be constructed of the uh, correct mushrooms, but this idea is groundbreaking.

Most likely they'd just pop up overnight before you could pull the building permits so you would have to tear them down.

The Zygons became technicalogically advanced by growing their spaceships. Tom Baker Dr Who episode. They also created the Loch Ness monster if my memory is correct.
