There was a followup in the Daily News this morning: the head was returned by a teenage girl and her mother - who may or may not have been holding her daughter by the ear.
The girl's two accomplices are still at large.

They could put the head back on attached with a big steel bolt and very visible stitches. From then on, it would be known as Frankenhorse.
