At least it got him out of his mom's basement for a bit.

See... There actually are reasonable sporting alternatives to professional basketball.

He set this record "before a cheering crowd of onlookers."
I think that if I had been there, I probably would have cheered for the local guy, too.
If a crowd can cheer on a group of guys in a parade with folding lawn chairs, who's to say we can't cheer at geeks racing tricked out recycle bins?

This is the difference between men and women. I have a trash can exactly like his bin and not once have I ever thought about putting a motor in it to see how fast I could go.

I'm not impressed. I knew a guy in junior high school who built a go-kart with a 450 cc motorcycle engine. He rode it through the neighborhood at 90 mph. Until a cop caught him, that is.

How many guys read the article and though "I could top that."

John,
All of 'em.

@MOTW, it's the same cheering crowd that secretly hopes for crashes at car races.

just slight modifications like rubber tires, engine, brakes, controls, seat, etc. in high school my friends and i rode a freaking dumpster down a steep hill, which was a lot of fun other than the rotting trash, smell and risk of death and also a profound metaphor for the trump administration.
