Jaime Rolando Urbina Torres, mayor of a small town in Peru, jumped into an open casket and pretended to be dead when police arrived to arrest him for breaking curfew

(Thanks to Doug Ogg and ChrisinVa, who says "Send this mayor to Washington!")

A variation on the old "dead-on-arrival" ploy.

Mayor's wife: "He was pining for the fjords."

His Honor should have known that dead men don't fart.

Technically this should have worked.

Overheard: "He looks good, don't he?"

What the mayor didn't want to hear:
"Let's get this box in the crematoria, NOW!"

As a point of reference, in Peru mayors are far more powerful politically than governors. Only legislators and the President are more powerful.

So equate this to your governor doing something like this. I'd imagine some governors somewhere along the line probably have.

A corpse wearing a face mask? Nothing to see here.
