In the late 70s there was a major snowstorm in DC that started in the middle of the day. Commuting home was a nightmare. As our VW w/4 big men pulled on to I-66 West, there was still major blockage and maybe a foot of snow on the ground. We did what we saw many other cars do - pulled over to the side and emptied.
