Maybe a friend told him that instead of driving drunk he should just take a bus.

Police officer--"OK, you claim you borrowed the bus because it was full of gas and idling with the keys in it."
Driver-"Yeah, that's the only way to get around when yer lichencese has been surspended twenty an' one times."
Police officer--"I suppose you're claiming impairment from being dropped on your head?"
Driver-"I'd like a pear, I'm hungry."
