Spam is the Hawaiian State Food Substitute. They even use it in sushi.

I remember a bad movie from the 60's where a soldier bought a wife with a case of Spam. I also recall he would have been better off to have kept the Spam.

Obviously waitresses who have not been able to keep up with the demand for lobster thermidor aux crevettes with a mornay sauce garnished with truffle paté, brandy, with a fried egg on top and spam.
But still; the straight way is the best way.
