Key phrase from the WaPo link:
... even-toed ungulate took umbrage.
Well played.
By the way, would any of these tourists have been standing that close to a domestic bull? And yet, they do so with a beast that's bigger and grumpier.

There are bison in areas at the Fermi National Laboratory in the western suburbs of Chicago.
I have a sudden urge to visit there and take a selfie.

They're just thinning the herd.

I have taken pictures of bison 100 feet away from me in South Dakota. That was closer than I liked, but I was standing still and the bison were walking past me, not the other way around. At the time, my non-reaction seemed like the best option. They were well over 100 yards away and stationary when I got out of the car. I wouldn't turn my back to a sheep I didn't know that was 6 yards away, much less a battle tatanka. I also was taught you are supposed to aim a camera away from you, not at yourself. This selfie fad is bull.

As he approached the bison was heard to mumble, "turn off that damn phone and pay attention". Much like me in traffic.
