A gallon of wine weighs almost the same as pure water. It can weigh a little more or a little less depending upon the type of wine. Sweet wines tend to have a higher specific gravity, so they weigh a bit more per gallon than water, which weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon.
80,000 pounds is calculated at the trucking weigh station and equals approximately 9592 gallons of wine.

If he was hauling 80K pounds, the truck was overloaded, too, as 80K is the normal limit for vehicle and cargo. Likely it was closer to 45K pounds of cargo.
