'ACCIDENTALLY'

Authorities say a woman was accidentally shot by her son-in-law while he was trying to shoot an armadillo.

Personally, I've used this excuse many, many times...

"I really think if they're going to shoot at varmints and whatnot, maybe use a shotgun.. with a spread pattern with a lot less range," Smith said.

So are they calling his mother in law a "whatnot" or what?

"At first I ask if they live in the city or county, because shooting is an effective way of getting rid of them. However, you have to be safe when you do that," said Morgan.

They seem pretty open-minded about eliminating mothers-in-law in Georgia trailer parks.

If armadillos are evolving armor tough enough to bounce a 9mm round, we all need to carry at least a .45; a shotgun won't have a chance. And it's another reason to toughen building codes for mobile homes and similar disposable housing.

I think shooting armadillos is actually the State sport.
