Most SPAM already gets under my skin. This makes it worse.

Use FireFox (Chrome may work, also) as your default browser, then add the following extentions:
(From the Tools/Add-Ons/Get Extensions menu)
1. "AdBlock Plus"
2. "Element Hiding Helper for AdBlock Plus"
3. "Better Privacy"
4. "Flash Block"

There is a variation available on alert settings. Anything involving mayhem can be tagged to have a different vibration from an e-mail from Mom.
There is a bit of a privacy issue since the vibration would be readily monitored by someone else.
