After one of her strokes, my mother called a nurse an unfortunate racial term from her youth, along with some unfortunately vivid descriptions of the nurse's allegedly unsavory habits.
I apologized to that fine lady and told her that at one time, my mother would have tanned my hide if I'd said anything like that.
She told me it was pretty common, but thanked me for the apology.
