Brussels sprouts 'overdose' hospitalised man at Christmas

I would submit that ANY amount of brussels sprouts would be toxic. I'm not taking any chances.

I like brussels sprouts. And spinach. There. I've said it.

I like them too. Got my daughter to eat them by pointing out that they turned her tongue green. (Beets turn it red, also a major plus for the 6-9 yr old crowd).

What has emerged, exactly?

Spinach, as long as it's not overcooked, is a useful and tasty ingredient in many dishes. Brussels sprouts are an alien species, left behind on Earth by the Mayans when they left on Komet Khohotec after a brief stopover in Jonestown for a refreshing glass of KoolAid.

Since brussels sprouts are known as one of the "gassy vegetables" I think we can safely guess what has emerged.

Does this mean I have to cut back on my bubble and squeak? If so, it's a very, very, very sad day for British cuisine. Oops. Sorry. Oxymoron.

Brussels sprouts, blech!

Spinach is OK with me. As far as I'm concerned, one is an overdose of Brussels sprouts.

if well prepared I can usually manage one Brussels sprout, any more is too many and it has to definitely not be overcooked to sliminess. what's wrong with spinach (not the overcooked goo that was once spinach some people serve)?

If they ever come up with a way to bred and fry brussel sprouts (like fried okra) I might try them if I am really hungry. But probably not.

I must once again trot out my father's justification for eating a Brussels sprout: "That's one fewer cabbage brought into the world."

In case you don't know (I sure didn't), sriracha is a "Thai-style hot sauce" apparently.

Jeff and oldfatguy, Brussels sprouts are good roasted, too. First, toss halved sprouts in a mixture of olive oil, black pepper, cayenne and garlic. Then into the oven on an oiled cookie sheet at 375 F for about half an hour. Sprinkle with Kosher salt and eat immediately. (I notice the good recipes call for 'hot' seasonings. Must be what makes sprouts edible.)

Sriracha! Give it a try, if you're at all fond of hot sauce. It's a winner!

Love Brussel sprouts and spinach but they among many other vegetables negate thyroid pills. Can't even have the cabbage in corned-beef and cabbage or colcannon.

Just zombify them.
