Saw a similar notification of this location a while back ... not sure where, so I wouldn't suggest ennybuddy be fired ...
HOWever, Richard Bong wuz a WWII hero, and this place is a Memorial to his service. (I'm thinkin' I recall that correctly.)

Bong shot down 40 enemy planes and won the Medal of Honor. And he was born in Superior in the far northwest corner of Wisconsin, as far away from his recreation area as you get get without going to Minnesota.

Unlike a lot of WWII heroes with things named for them, Bong came home safely but was killed in August 1945 test flying a jet aircraft.
