INDIA'S Supreme Court criticised the country's Census for grouping housewives with prostitutes, beggars and prisoners in the survey's "economically non-productive" category, The Times of India reported overnight.

*SMACKS* Indian National Census. Besides prostitutes and beggars make a lot more money.

What category do census takers fall in?

India, with 1.2 billion people, has evolved some traditions that we in the West would find disconcerting.

"The tears of a stranger are just water" is a well known maxim. It means that while you might be expected to look after your kin, you owe nothing to the poor beggar on the street.
