But critics last night blasted the huge bill....

“If they’d asked a farmer, he could have told them ducks like water.”
But are the farmers subject to peer review? Do they have a degree from an accredited institution? Did they apply for a grant?

queensbee:
In the slang of the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, boffins are scientists, engineers, and other people who are stereotypically seen as engaged in technical or scientific research. American equivalent is "Egghead"[1]. The word may conjure up images of men in thick spectacles and white lab coats, obsessively working with complicated apparatus. Portrayals of boffins emphasize both their eccentric genius and their naive ineptitude in social interaction.

Running water, moving water = less stagnant and nasty. Cleaner.

Also any %$#%% farmer could have told them.

*thanks God I was not born a duck*

I see Jeff also looked boffin up on Wilkipedia. A farmer could have told them this although he probably would have thought they were stupid for even asking. My Grandpa was a farmer all his life in Georgia. He didn't suffer fools lightly. He not only would have told them that was a stupid question but probably would have chased them off his farm with a shotgun.

Advise the US Department of the Navy! They'll want to get started building showeers for ducks in drought ravaged parts of the country... at a cost that will double what the Brits spent on the study.

delete that "e"
Posted by: estrogen centrale | May 21, 2009 at 11:27 AM
Meh! Some of the studies we're set to spend $ on are just as idiotic.

So TypePedo (*) nuked my HTML again? OK, one more time:
Boffin:

I think from now on I'll just paste in the URL until the bot gets its act together...
(*) or TypePaedo for our Brit readers...
Posted by: Steve Haller | May 21, 2009 at 12:15 PM
...or you could hide the URI in your signature like I'm doing here
Posted by: oneblankspace | May 21, 2009 at 12:31 PM
*clicks on "oneblankspace": ???*
OK, sorry, no clue what you mean...

I'm willing to conduct a $ 350,000.00 study to see if I like money. You can keep the difference.

In other news, the Pope shi-- No, wait, that's not right. Lemme check my notes.

So, we now have options on the preview page to specify italics, links, etc. Let's see if those work, at least: "Does a bear ..."
It just inserts the usual HTML for you, so I'm not holding my breath...

Ok, either I'm hallucinating, or that actually worked. Y'all see italics and a working link in my last post, or is it just me?

It is always important to test what is assumed but not proven. I suggest that we assume that the researchers would not like a 90% cut in funding, but we don't know that in fact. Shall we test the hypothesis?
