Redneck airport. Remind me not to fly there.

The top building official in Miami-Dade is named 'Chuck Danger'??
Hopefully the local Hysterical Society will swoop in and save this classic example of Floridian architecture. All it needs is an old Cessna parked out front...up on cinder blocks of course...in tall grass. And maybe a coon hound.

The Air Traffic Controller Song
Opa-locka, Opa, Opa
Opa-locka, Opa, Opa
I can't stop this feeling
Deep inside of me
We're lacking in some modern
air traffic technology
The trailer just won't do now
33 feet in the air
I can't even see the whole airfield
or the planes flyin' everywhere
When I'm perched up
on this cargo box
I get jeered at
and the folks throw rocks
CHORUS
I, I'm hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
In a permanent tower, you see
Opa-locka, Opa, Opa
Opa-locka, Opa, Opa...

NICE one, Cat!!! Haven't thought of that song in eons.
Posted by: DeskDiva | August 28, 2007 at 11:38 PM
Thanks, Diva!
Now I gave myself that darned earwig...
Posted by: Cat R. | August 28, 2007 at 11:58 PM
Hey - there are WAY worse earworms out there. Just try not to think of them. :)

Useless trivia of the day: While she actually started in Oakland CA, it was on her stop at Opa-Locka where Amelia Earhart announced that she was attempting to fly around the world.
Posted by: fivver | August 29, 2007 at 12:17 AM
Good one, Cat! That's what I thought of, too, when I saw Opa-locka.
fivver: Really? Amazing. As was she.
Posted by: Just Ducky | August 29, 2007 at 12:21 AM
Heya fiv and Ducky!! Hope y'all are still around. Though I might not be when you get back. I'm trying to avoid getting a cold. I really can't afford it when I'm singing for the Lyric, but I came home early from work and slept the afternoon away, so now I'm wide awake - or I was. Now that I've typed that, I'm yawning....
Posted by: DeskDiva | August 29, 2007 at 12:51 AM
Opa-locka...isn't that a Hawaiian fish?
Posted by: SW | August 29, 2007 at 01:06 AM
Lookie, papa - it's Joe Palooka! Get the Kaopectate.

*sets out danish and fruit*
Executive Airport??!!?
Do they have an Executive Washroom at the Executive Airport?
Posted by: The Dread Pirate Chris | August 29, 2007 at 06:27 AM
Sorry DPC, I'm not privy to that information.
Posted by: Mot the Hoople | August 29, 2007 at 07:04 AM
It looks like FEMA has taken over the FAA ("you're doing a heck of a job, Brownie")
At least they don't have Nagin inspired submerged evacuation buses
Posted by: Solid Citizen | August 29, 2007 at 07:51 AM
.....secured $4.2 mil to build an $11 mil structure. I need to apply for a loan.
Posted by: Jazzzz | August 29, 2007 at 08:08 AM
and they wonder why "some people" refer to south florida as a third world country....
Posted by: crossgirl | August 29, 2007 at 08:19 AM
Thanks for the coffee and danish, DPC!
Morning all! First day of school here. Though I had no one to put on the bus, my window was open and as the bus pulled away, the group of about 12 parents out there all started cheering and clapping! Made me smile.

off topic post. check out this video /news clip about global warming and climate change. The story itself is rather generic, but notice the expression of the woman anchor at the very end.
Posted by: orcel | August 29, 2007 at 09:12 AM
Orcel, maybe she caught a peek at the trailer in the sky?

Posted by: Hammond Rye | August 29, 2007 at 09:37 AM
fivver: I believe that Amelia Earhart's last known radio transmission was her saying, "Eh, we shoulda made a left at Opa-Locka".
Posted by: Lairbo | August 29, 2007 at 09:39 AM

and coon hounds bark,
and everyone shares the same last name!
