Let them walk?
When we were kids we walked all the time, uphill, both ways, barefoot in the snow & on over all the broken glass on skid row... .
And we liked it!

One of my best friends has a daughter who graduated last year and had to pass this test to do so. While I love her like my own daughter, I'll just say that studying is NOT on the list of her top priorities. She passed the silly thing with flying colors. What I want to know is how the student in the story with the 3.5 gpa couldn't pass it?

Dr. R - they's all graded on a scale from 1 ta 10. Things all bigger in Texas.
Posted by: Annie Where-but-here | May 26, 2007 at 04:05 PM
"Bigger" in Texas? Keep talking like that, I'll split myself in half and make you the third largest state in the union.
Posted by: Alaska | May 26, 2007 at 04:22 PM
Med.... your turn for what?
(just axing)
Posted by: if_its_not_1thing_its3 | May 26, 2007 at 04:25 PM

Posted by: Alaska | May 26, 2007 at 04:29 PM

That is just so rong. The sine said it all.
Posted by: Bethie | May 26, 2007 at 04:47 PM
There used to be one of those "Baby on Board" yellow signs that read "I IS A COLLEGE STUDENT". I hope this is a similar takeoff, because if not....We're in trouble.

The 1st time I went to that page the picture wasn't loading up. I would be embarassed for our state just based on the woman's sign, but she is in Fort Worth. F.W. is a suburb of Dallas which in turn is a suburb of Oklahoma. That should explain everything. *puts away G.W.'s Big Book of 'Splaining Things Away*

Irregardless of the principals at stake in this argument, I whole hardily agree that it is shear ignorance to deny these students there writes. Supposably the powers that bee know what there doing, but they arn't full proof.

Our school board approved the TAKS failures to walk since about one-fourth of the class of oh-seven had failed one or more of the four segments. The superintendent said those students would be tracked to see how many follow through and pass the TAKS on their own in summer programs. That should be some impressive data given that each of those students have had no fewer than four chances to pass TAKS starting in their junior year. My son who walked yesterday passed TAKS his junior year....I love him to death, but a rocket scientist he's not.

DeskDiva - Some states have gone to different types of diplomas based on the student's level of achievement, such as
"Honors Diploma" - Received all of the necessary credits and maintained a certain GPA
"Diploma" - Received all of the necessary credits
"Certificate of Completion" - You've learned all you are going to learn , and we don't think another year in high school will help, so please do not come back. Thanks for playing.
