Key Quote: "Before he had a chance to say anything at all, this elderly gentleman whacked him with a carrier bag which had a lettuce amongst other things in it," Det Insp Claydon said.

smacked in the head with a head

I wonder if the robber's name might be H.I. McDonough.

(50 blog points and a mojito for correct reference identification.)

Good thing he didn't have a salad shooter. That guy might have ended up dead.

Lettuce is a perfect biological weapon as well, imparting feccoli to the offending party.

lettuce pray this man has learned his lesson

YAY for Siouxie!

(I gut nuthin' on the old lettuce guy, sorry)

"There's right and there's right and never the t'wain shall meet."

(That's for WriterDude's benefit.)

what a guy...now why can't I meet a brave older guy like this, huh???

Hmmm, lettus see: bottled bleach and washing liquid... Naw, couldn'a been. Must a been the lettuce that drove the ASBO off!

Would H. I. McDonough be from Raising Arizona?

*one sec while tossing a couple of "what's" up into the
otherwise correct reference identification*

50 blog points and a mojito for bbescuela! No penalty for the slight omission.

I once cooked in a playfully rowdy place where food is ordered through the window and customers are called to pick it up over the P.A. We got finished with a rush to find we'd made one order of onion rings too many. Rather than toss them, I got on the P.A. and offered them for free to the first person who could give me a line from that movie. Within 15 seconds a kid maybe nine years old walked up to the window and said to me, "Son, you've got a panty on your head!" ISIANMTU.

Correct, xmnr! *slides a mojito*

Hell, and here I was about to spout off some Kipling myself for the Macdonough reference...

Once there was The People—Terror gave it birth;
Once there was The People and it made a Hell of Earth.
Earth arose and crushed it. Listen, O ye slain!
Once there was The People—it shall never be again!

Those old British men... You just don't mess around with them - especially on their own turf....

I'll bet that the crook was one of those guys who doesn't eat green vegetables and doesn't like to wash.
