SUPER BOWL ANAGRAM UPDATE

Several days ago this blog noted that SEATTLE SEAHAWKS can be rearranged to spell WEAK-ASS ATHLETES, and asked you to come up with an equally good anagram for PITTSBURGH STEELERS. I have analyzed your submissions, in consultation with a team of internationally recognized anagram experts in the form of Mr. Gene Weingarten. Gene and I agree the the three best anagrams for PITTSBURGH STEELERS are:

-- LESS BIG PETER THRUST
-- SUPERB RIGHT TESTES

...and one other one that I cannot print here in the blog (LET'S PET SHITBURGERS).  Congratulations to those of you who participated in this vital effort. Pleae enjoy the game responsibly.

(Thanks to Bismuth, Paul Levine and tron)

(NOTE: We failed to check to be absolutely sure that these are all real anagrams. But at this point, we do not care.)

Dave, thanks for keeping the blog family-friendly.

After a few beers, all of the letters will fit together nicely

Thought only macdonalds sold shit burgers... whered dud u find them massachu?

i left one the other day, and now i don't see it. its not there, and i'm sure it would have won. i'm very disappointed, it was

Funny, I was just trying to come up with an anagram for "Let's pet shitburgers" last week and stumbled upon "Pittsburgh Steelers"

GO SH!TBURGERS!!!

*Waves Terrible Towel*

In Pittsburghese, (one would use the team's actual name to avoid a trip to the emergency room), you'd say "Go Stillwers! Ah gawt ma Terribuwl Towl!

It's supposed to sound like Mike Ditka, not Elmer Fudd

Actually, SUPERB RIGHT TESTES anagrams to PITTSBURGH STEEERS. Coincidentally, many of the Pittsburgh linemen actually are steers, so practically speaking it's probably fine.

*zips in*

LucyVP - Awesome video! I saved it - thanks!

scat - I wish I had a Terrible Towel to wave today.

What time do the festivities start?? The pre-game stuff?

*decides to hang out here for a while*

El, the game is at 3:15 on ABC. The pregame show started on Tuesday. (Actually the ABC pregame starts at 11:30.)

I *love* the steelers, 'cept when their playing the Dolphins (have they ever?)...

GO STEELERS!!!!

Half time from Jama :

Steelers: 7
Seahawks: 3

Well...it's the Stones...THE band of my generation...

and tonight Mick sounds like Elmer Fudd...

(shaking head)

Have y'all "Let your man out"?

My favorite commercial so far is FedEx...

Though the streaking sheep was cute.

There are WAY too many GNFARB in this thread to even list....

Streaking sheep!??! Is that what the %^&$$%@# that was?!? My wife and I were scratching our heads over that one -- not the only one, which I guess means we're not drunk enough.... (I am firmly convinced that 90% or more of the creators of most advertising are stoned, anyway).

Let me be the first to say that Pittsburgh Steelers Anagrams to: Superbowl 40 Champions!

KICK ASS!!! YEAH STEELERS!!!

IT CERTAINLY DOES, LucyVP!!!
Great way to put it!! :)

Hooray!!!

Dey was robbed, I tells ya!

Oops, it says Terrible Towel on it! :)

Superbowl Roundup:

1. The ads were very disappointing.

2. The Stones rocked awfully well for AARPers.

3. WOOHOO STEELERS!

Football is over for the year.

How many days to Spring Training?

daisymae, Mick always sounded like Elmer Fudd. Most of his best songs have undecipherable lyrics. Which makes it very hard to sing along with them while driving.

But they're great fun and I'll keep Fudding along with Mick.

sly, I feel your pain again. I don't like hockey and have no idea if The Blackhawks or Penguins are any good this year.

I do know that The Bulls suck again. You know, they've sucked long enough to have the past decade's best players. What's the deal?!

Even though the White Sox won the World Series I just couldn't get into it. I'm a Cubs fan. Just can't warm up to those South Side boys.

Mostly I'd like to see The Pirates win the World Series. Pittsburgh could really use all the moral support it can get! Hooyah Steelers!

Woooo Hoooo STEELERS!!!!

kibby goes to bed now....Wooo Hooo!!!

Absolutely the sorriest halftime show in SB history! The Stones sounded like their music and lyrics were being sponged up by the well-earned wrinkles that crisscrossed their faces. The sound was horrible. The first song was absolutely tuneless. Mick kept making the same stale gestures over and over. I've been a Stones fan since they celebrated their first release in the US. I was terribly disappointed. Meanwhile, the game was a good one!

I also thought the sound was a bit mushy. It lacked punch. I don't know if that was the Stones' fault, or if was just the venue or bad sound mixing.

Gotta disagree with you on the "sorriest halftime in SB history" comment, though. I think the "wardrobe malfunction" one still holds that title. Mediocre Stones beats Justin & Janet's nipple ring extravanganza, any day.

Well, the sound techs for all of the entertainment (pre & halftime) should be thoroughly fired by now.

Scat: I do like hockey, but sadly, the Penguins... *thinks of family-friendly way to put it* ...are very, very, very bad this year. They are, in fact, so bad that Mario Lemieux is retiring again and in talks to sell them off (last I heard, anyway).

Did anyone realize that the teams in the Superbowl this year were the Seahawks and the Mariners? ...or at least so thought a friend of my family. Yeesh. I just don't even know where to start with that one. The stupidity...it's just mind boggling...

I chuckled at a few of the commercials. But in all they were pretty disappointing. The Stones rocked just fine for a bunch of seniors. As for the sound, it was a freakin' football stadium. The sound is never good in a football stadium. So... what? There was a football game or something, too? Musta missed it.

The Stones did indeed rock. I kept waiting for a denture malfunction that mercifully never came, but that just added to the mystique. They looked and sounded amazing, although Keith Richards bears a striking resemblance to Walter. Any relation?

The ads blew. This is what happens when a committee attempts comedy. Dave, help! Corporate America thinks it's got a sense of humor. Stop them before they strike out again!

Superbowl...I can't believe it messed up my DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES time slot!

I mean who cares about mean hitting each other chasing after a ball?!

Good game, so-so commercials, good performance by the Fudds.

Is the pregame show over now, or is it now focusing on SupeXLI?

wavey, I got your point about the Janet/Justin thing. The SB XL show was too fresh in my mind to remember it. Then again, I was at a watering hole party for that one, and the nubile young thing next to me was displaying her ramparts, which sight caused this geezer and everyone else at that SB party to totally miss Janet and Justin misbehaving. The next day's news had me going, "Say what?!"

Granted I've known for a long time that my sense of humor was off.. but I thought there where some funny commercials. I really liked that Sprint commercials with the criminal deterrent system. That was great!! Even though it was pretty disturbing Hummer at least gets credit for making a memorable commercial. I thought the game was kind of rotten though, both teams played like crap, or so it seemed to me. I'm not a big football fan, but I was hoping for a little more action. The Stones where pretty scary too, I think I'd find Janet's breast at least more pleasant to look at.. and I'm a straight female.

I think keith richards was drinkin embalming fluid...

Go Steelers! Of course, my husband and my boss both think the game was fixed. But hey, even without Big Ben's TD, they would have won (not one) this thing.

Neener.

/end rant.

Richards has been held together with preservatives for a coupla decades. Jagger (the original wardrobe malfunction) is amazing to be able to do that. The sound was poor, but not the band's fault. It's excellent in their own concerts.

We are now not quite 8 years from the Stones golden anniversary tour, if you measure from their Oct 1964 appearance on Sullivan. If they do the tour, I'll probably have to catch it.

yep that would be something to see... wonder how their gonna incorporate walkers into the stage show...

my son was totally creeped out by the stones. he can't imagine why a man of that age would be moving his hips like that!

i was disappointed in the game, the commercials, the half time entertainment, and my own lack of male company over the age of 12. but the food was awesome!

mzvette, i liked the phone commercial too. and was sufficiently drunk enough to recognize a streaking lamb when i saw it.

*zips in still wearing yesterday's
outfit*

crossgirl - when your son is 60 he'll be pretty happy if he can move around like that - he just doesn't know that yet! :)

I don't much like the Stones, and I thought that Richards walked around thinking, how much longer do I have to stay up here, and, oh yeah, I guess I better pluck a couple of strings on my guitar.

STEELERS ROCK!!!!

During the half-time show, our group was talking about how the Stones are still taking as many drugs as they did in the old days; it's just now the drugs are all legal. Lipitor, Diovan, Celebrex, Glucosamine, Levitra....

Re: the game. The Seahawks wuz robbed...they should have gotten that first touchdown. The first touchdown that the Steelers got was bogus.

The other touchdown was legit.

missed the pregame show.

I liked the 'magic fridge' commercial-- brilliant!
streaking sheep- ok.
baby Clydesdale-- cute.
cavemen FedEx-- excellent!

The Hummer commercial was just stupid. memorable, but stupid.

The monkey commercials were dumb...I missed them last year, but they were still dumb...

The Steelers 12th man was wearing the zebra outfit! Seahawks was robbed indeed!!! The refs took the wind out of the Hawks sails early on. Probably way too much money riding on a Steeler victory.

Commercials were lousy and warmed over except for the FedEx dinosaur one!. Funny. Hummer ad was interesting but not spectacular.

I missed the streaking sheep commercial somehow, but here's how I rate the others:
#1: FedEx Caveman
#2: Sprint Crime Deterrent
#3: Budlight Bear & Dudes
I can't remember any others that impressed me.

Stupendous, I agree with you about the bear ad...that one was also good.

Maybe when you have to pay someone $5,000,000 a minute to do your comedy act, that would pretty much stifle your sense of humor.

Bud Light Bear?

I thot it wuz a Hamm's Beer Bear ... shows whut I know ...

(I did NOT see the game, except for about 5 seconds as My Bride [Remember Her?] surfed past it ... really did not care ... wuz working on a new story idea or two ...)

U.O, let me update you on the Budlight ad:
Two dudes are running down a hillside with rucksacks a'flappin' and a 9,000 lb bear hot on their trail. The two guys split up, and the bear takes after the one who bears (npi) to the right. The dude still being chased fetches up against a cliff with nowhere to go. Thinking quickly, he reaches in his rucksack and pulls out a frosty Budlight. The bear, towering over him and roaring out his challenge, watches as the guy places the beer on a rock in front of the bear. The bear is suitably impressed and about to snatch up the brewski when the other dude comes dashing thru from stage right, snatches the beer and streaks out of camera angle. Once again the bear becomes pissed. Beerless guy cowers. Announcer breaks in with meaningless drivel about the taste, yada, yada, yada. Back to the woods as the beer snatcher is sitting on a log laughing and his well-mauled buddy is approaching from his rear. The snatcher is slapping his knee and saying: "I still got them moves I had in high school! Haw, haw!" Well, maybe you should just watch about 9,000 hours of tv 'til the ad reappears, y'know what I mean?

Ameriquest had the best commercials -- very sick -- very funny.

I agree; I thought Ameriquest was the best. It was black humor done well.

...And I *thought* something was up with the sound on Mick's mike. I thought it was technical problems, but noooo....
