IT'S A GOOD THING WE HAVE CLEARLY ESTABLISHED THAT DEAD CATS ARE NOT FUNNY
So there is no danger that anybody will be amused by this.

We are not amused. That being said, they should definitely put more protein in that poor cat's food... Anorexic kitties is just taking society's obsession with thinness too far!

"The worker who took the cat home, a Mr. Norman Bates, said it would be a gift for his mother."

What about bonzai kittens?
(Just google it, I'm too tired to try to link today.)

At least it was only one cat. A local lady was recently hauled away from her house because it was unfit for human existence. She housed 488 cats, 222 of them dead. Seems she recently shipped some of them (a few hundred, give or take) off to another family member whose house was also left unfit for human life. Imagine the smell.
Un-be-freaking-believable.

I think it was chasing this . . .
Posted by: Mahatma Kane Jeeves | July 20, 2005 at 06:45 AM
Well, at least it won't eat much, and it shouldn't keep everybody awake with incessant meowing...could be the perfect pet!

Definitely not funny, but definitely AGNFARB:
Dessicated Cats, or Somewhere North's Anorexic Kitties.

Ah so. Besides serving 'fe line lo mein' in Chicago's Chinatown in the mid to late 1800s, I believe that one of the favorite delicacies was 'thousand-year-old cat.' Obviously, the chef forgot about this one.
I think I read it at wokipedia.
Posted by: marinadedave | July 20, 2005 at 06:48 AM
Dead cats are not funny but I am ashamed to admit this dessicated cat appearing to be running from worksite made me snork.
Posted by: tyler | July 20, 2005 at 06:48 AM
tyler, youre thinking of dead kitties again? no, wait, sorry, that was dead puppies. same results i'm sure.
mahatma, that is disturbing on so many levels

I wish I hadn't just eaten. Now my stomach feels all gurgly and oogly. ick.

MKJ - you possess an undeniable genius.
An odd and twisted genius, to be sure, but still...

I rather like the motto of the Aspen newspaper even more than the mummified cat: "If you don't want it printed, don't let it happen". If only more people followed that homily, the world would be a better place. Boring, probably, but better.

i tend to have the stance that the only way a cat is any good is by being dead. that being said, loved the picture.

*gets a good laugh at dead cats*
*decides it's time to go read the link*

there's no way that cat underneath the baby is a live cat. that baby would be covered in scratches and there wouldn't've been enough time to take a picture if it was alive. cats are demonic like that.
Posted by: jamie the star wars nerdgirl | July 20, 2005 at 07:55 AM
You used to be able to buy a stuffed animal called "Earl the Dead Cat (all the cat you'll ever need)". Every year i hoped, and every year Santa disappointed me. that's why I'm so bitter and twisted today.

not to be confused with a fossilized or mummified cat
Posted by: ceeg22 | July 20, 2005 at 08:04 AM
I beg your pardon??
jamie, I'll have you know that my cat, Mack, is far from demonic. He is well trained as he was raised with a very smart black lab and now tends to bark at guests when they ring the door bell, growl at other animals when they walk by (he walks on a leash outside) and he also knows sit/stay/lay down...
*sniffle*
SEE?! Not all cats are crazy!
Posted by: DoubleD | July 20, 2005 at 08:10 AM
doubled, i did a double take when i read your name. the only cat i ever liked was owned by a friend who goes by the nickname double d. what are the odds?
any cat that thinks it's a dog is fine by me. i love dogs.
Posted by: jamie the star wars nerdgirl | July 20, 2005 at 08:12 AM
Double D is also a character on Ed, Ed, and Eddy (cartoon network).
artchic, the crashtest dummies line of *fun* toys has a cat that crushes flat when you run him over with your crash test vehicle maybe that will do
and my cat is demonic. he attacks the kids regularly. i love that cat.

That cat better watch out for this . . .

Dead cat's ARE funny!
But not dead dead puppies. Dead puppies aren't much fun.
Posted by: PollyPI | July 20, 2005 at 08:25 AM
ugh. are you sure that wasn't a rat that's been dead for a few days?
Posted by: jamie the star wars nerdgirl | July 20, 2005 at 08:26 AM
I've never had a cat that thought it was a dog, but did have a dog that thought he was a cat. My dad thought the dog was constipated until he caught him in the backyard, burying his p**p.
Posted by: NiftyWitch | July 20, 2005 at 08:35 AM
Sad. Poor kitty.
But I'm flattered that my original 'dead cats are not funny' comment was siezed-upon by Dave. Glad to offer riffing material to a pro. Also relieved I don't sport a mullet.

Burying his peep?
Posted by: sct72 | July 20, 2005 at 09:06 AM
N-Witch and sct72 - its not uncommon for dogs to bury their waste. They bury lots of things: bones, toys, dead prey, etc. It's instinctive from their wolf ancestors, who will catch their prey, consume part of it, then bury the rest for later consumption. Now if you'll excuse me, your animal behavior lecture is concluded for today.

Are you sure that wasn't really a prop from some sci-fi/horror flick? Ewwww!

OK, I just about died laughing at that photo. Something must be very wrong with me.

Posted by: insomniac | July 20, 2005 at 12:01 PM
Nancy,
In this particular case, the dog was raised from a pup along with our cat's litter of kittens. He learned the habit from "Mama Cat".

VictoriaE77, re: Bonia Kittens...
Some years ago, an aquaintantce of mine emailed me the link for the site attached to a petition expessing outrage. I had to explain to her that it was a joke. She replied that she didn't think it was funny. Changed my opinion of her forever.

I like the disclaimer on the Bonsai Kittens site ...
... clueless retards ... indeed!

More on scat-burying dogs: The Akita, bred in Japan to be guardians of the Emperor, ALWAYS bury their 'stuff' so they can remain in stealth-mode.
