Apparently the housing bubble has finally burst.

So your kid's illiterate, now he can play in the box the Harry Potter books came in!
Posted by: insomniac | July 18, 2005 at 09:07 AM
Maybe there's a boggart in it.
Posted by: Atticus | July 18, 2005 at 09:08 AM
Is bubble wrap included?
*pop*

If you look real close at one of the dirt smudges you can see Jesus.
Posted by: artchick | July 18, 2005 at 09:20 AM
Yeah, I'd rather read the box than the book....

YEA! Finally a post from me! This is so exciting!
And just so you guys know, I have one that I am going to put on eBay so I can cash in on the insanity of millions. With bids like that, I can double my yearly income from working at Barnes&Noble!
Posted by: bilge | July 18, 2005 at 09:22 AM
Damn. I threw our Harry Potter box away. This is why I'll never be rich - I fail to understand that the world is filled with idiots that will buy anything.
Posted by: SteveB | July 18, 2005 at 09:27 AM
I wonder if someone will bottle the air from inside the box and try to sell that too!
Posted by: Aunt Nancy | July 18, 2005 at 09:42 AM
i'll be the first to admit i got in line at 4:30 on friday at barnes and noble, but there's no way in hell i'd pay $12 for an empty box. the end.
oh yeah, and i'm back. hehe.

What if I bottle the air from inside the bookshop?
Maybe I won't get as much, but think of the quantity!
Posted by: VictoriaE77 | July 18, 2005 at 10:11 AM
But the box has so much potential! It is a talking point, a visual interest, a story, a moral lesson, a symbol of our commercialized society...
Yes, it is an empty box. But you are missing the whole art-deco-neo-environmentalist weenie angle...
Posted by: Somewhere North | July 18, 2005 at 10:18 AM
well, i have to admit the whole modern art thing really goes over my head. issues and images of contemporary art - the only C i've gotten in college so far, and i'm a studio arts major. go figure.

I just bought a new window air conditioner ...anybody want to bid on the box? Be a part of history! Whirlpool may never make another 8,000 BTU model!
Posted by: kj | July 18, 2005 at 10:28 AM
what am i offered for my brand new HP printer box - it still has its original inserts?
Posted by: queensbee | July 18, 2005 at 10:31 AM
How will this box be shipped?
Wow, my first Dave Barry blog post ever.
Posted by: NoNameYet | July 18, 2005 at 10:36 AM
For the one I am going to sell, I thought about taping it up and putting a label on it. So at least you get to open it. But our packing tape is ugly.
I think I'll just put it in a bigger box. Which the person can then sell:
"The box that the box the Harry Potter books came in came in!"
Posted by: bilge | July 18, 2005 at 10:42 AM
Good question, NoName! Now they have to go out and find a bigger box!
Posted by: VictoriaE77 | July 18, 2005 at 10:42 AM
I guess it's hard to synopsize a box, so the seller did the synopse of the book instead. Misleading, that's what I'd call it.
And "Well Done" to No Name. I rode you once in the desert, nice to see you again...

final damages: $11.50 for empty box. $4 to ship same box. good news for all the auction non-winners, bidding is still going on for a 2nd box. woohoo!!
Posted by: crossgirl | July 18, 2005 at 11:12 AM
I can't believe there were 10 bids for that box.
Posted by: Rachel | July 18, 2005 at 12:20 PM
You can also get all the empty boxes you want at the liquer store.
But leave the mad dog boxes.
Have some pride.
Posted by: VictoriaE77 | July 18, 2005 at 12:38 PM
I still have the box mine came in. Anybody want it? You can have it for FREE, cause you're all so entertaining. You'll have to pay shipping though. Man. Who'd have thought?
Posted by: Bumble | July 18, 2005 at 03:24 PM
But how much will the box that they shipped the box in sell for on ebay?
Posted by: bbescuela | July 18, 2005 at 07:14 PM
I have an Amozon, Harry Potter shipping box. Of course, I'm going to be using it to return the copies that showed up 2 days late.
Posted by: alanboss | July 18, 2005 at 08:07 PM
Okay, just for the record.... I'm not really a bad speller. I'm just a sloppy typist.
Posted by: alanboss | July 18, 2005 at 11:27 PM
I think alanboss is cute but that could be because I had oral sugery yesterday, am totally drugged up, and since 3am PDT, I've taken 2 vicodin and a sleeping pill and I'm still awake!
OR
he could really be cute!! :)
