Glass Onion

And can anybody tell me what in the heck the song is about?

Lyrics to Glass Onion:

I told you about strawberry fields.
You know the place where nothing is real.
Well here's another place you can go
Where everything flows.
Looking through the bent backed tulips
To see how the other half live
Looking through a glass onion.
I told you about the walrus and me - man.
You know that we're as close as can be - man.
Well here's another clue for you all
The walrus was Paul.
Standing on the cast iron shore - yeah.
Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet - yeah.
Looking through a glass onion.
Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah
Looking through a glass onion.
I told you about the fool on the hill.
I tell you man he's living there still.
Well here's another place you can be.
Listen to me.
Fixing a hole in the ocean
Trying to make a dove-tail joint - yeah
Looking through a glass onion.

what? those initials were NOT there when I previewed; they weren't! Why won't they stick when I want them to?

Sorry to admit, neo, but I don't even know "Glass Onion." (*hangs geezer head in shame*)

Glass Onion

One Toke Over the Line (speaking of stoned)

When I was in college, there was the best (and I mean, the best) sub sandwhich shop a block from campus, called Yellow Sub. Oh, man they were good! And then they opened a coffee house on the second floor, entirely glass fronted, and named it the Glass Onion. And that is the only way I had ever heard of the song. I had never heard the words until I googled it this afternoon.

/pointless ranbling

1.) that word was supposed to be raMbling

b.) once again, I did not add the honorific, and it was not there when I previewed. So it comes when I don't want it to, and will not stay when I do want it to.

Look! Boogers!

When I saw "Glass Onion", I thought of the poem "Cut" by Sylvia Plath. According to my English teacher, it's one of her more cheerful poems. She was depressed... and kind of depressing.. this is the poem anyway, FWIW..

Cut
(an excerpt)
Sylvia Plath
copyright © 1962 Harper Collins

What a thrill ----
My thumb instead of an onion.
The top quite gone
Except for a sort of a hinge

Of skin,
A flap like a hat,
Dead white.
Then that red plush . . .

A celebration, this is.
Out of a gap
A million soldiers run,
Redcoats, every one.

Cheerful, huh? You should see the one she wrote about the abandonment she felt at the death of her father. I think it's called "Daddy". Anyway, back to the point...

I Shot The Sheriff

Glass Onion: I've known this song for such a huge part of my life that I have a hard time imagining someone not knowing it. Funny how things that we've known forever we come to understand as being "common" rather than "familiar to us."

And, yes, from what I remember (and as corroborated at the website to which you linked) John wrote a nonsense song filled with references to other Beatles songs.

Maybe I know the song so well because it is sandwiched between "Dear Prudence" and ... another song that I won't mention so I can use it in the game if I have to. *grin* "Dear Prudence" is one of my favorite Beatles songs.
