...but they are not rocket scientists.

And where did such a small puppy get his lips on such a big knife? Negligence? Good thing this happened in London, in America the owners would be charged with something and sent to jail!

Note that the puppy was a male.

Strange business, but a good job well done all 'round I'd say.

So he went under the knife to get the knife ;-)

First golf balls, now a knife. And weren't there a couple of stories about dogs shooting their owners? They were probably really trying to eat the gun when it went off. Anyone who has seen one of those little yappy lap dogs (Yappy Lap Dogs - not agnfarb) trying to attack a Doberman will not be surprised at a dog biting off more than it can chew (but now swallow, apparently).

Should read "but not swallow." Why don't I check these before I post them? Where would be the fun in that?

Hard to believe the dog did this all by itself.

No one here feels an ounce of compassion for the poor, moderately stupid animal?

You beasts.

Lee, what are you suggesting, that someone fed him the knife? WHo could be that diabolical?

Drew, of course we feel sorry for the poor dumb puppy. I think we just want pictures, or at least x-rays.

Jeff, it's just hard to picture. What did he do, bite the handle and then run into wall to shove it down his throat?

And we do feel sorry for the dog, even if he should be the cannine equivalent of a Darwin Award winner.

OT: Just saw the famed hippo attack sequence in Congo. Bad, very, very bad. Hippo Attack mbagnfarb.

I agree Punky, standing on animals is cruel.

especially if they just swallowed a knife ...

huh. That reminds me of ...

There was an old woman who swallowed a cow--
I don't know how she swallowed a cow!
She swallowed a cow to catch the goat.
She opened her mouth and it went down her throat.
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog--
Oh, what a hog to swallow a dog!
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat.
Imagine that! She swallowed a cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird--
How absurd to swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and wriggled and jiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly --
Perhaps she'll die!

Primates, yes. Advanced is pretty questionable, considering a lot of the stuff dave & judi post.

Ahhh! They're here!

Why was the knife where the dog could swallow it in the first place?

Anyone notice the ad just below the article?

"Manage your forestland to grow big gobblers."
Tracy Byrd, Country music star - Avid sportsman
We make turkey hunting better [BASF]

Was this it? Honest mistake.

Actually, I don't know any rocket scientists who could manage to do this. Sure, they can miss an entire planet by several thousand miles, but swallow a knife as long as their body?

X-rays! Thanks, jl. Now that we see the knife it doesn't look so big, but then I guess the dog wasn't too big himself. The jerk who left it there where Jake could mistake it for Puppy Chow should have been a lot more careful.

I have those yappy little lap dogs (2 to be precise), thank you very much, and I love them. They are very bright, sweet, little darlings.

Except when they eat EVERY single jar of vaseline I buy (chapped lips). I just don't understand it...

At minimum, these people really need instructions on how to pet proof their place. Perhaps a graphic demonstration: 'how do you feel, when you swallow...THIS?'

That said, I have a cat that has never been interested in food, but has always shown an avid desire to find and eat wildly inappropriate things. Like a dog, but much dumber, she is THE reason for pet insurance. For some reason, she really really wants to try $5000 intestinal blockage surgery.

Oh, and Sadie, vaseline is good for hairballs; maybe they don't feel they get enough fibre? ;)

Interesting thought on the fiber thing...I will look into some frosted min-wheats!

I guess that the puppy wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I sent this link to Dave once, but I'm sure it got lost in the quagmire. It seems at first like a very crass site. But when you think about it, its really an ode to how hilariously stupid dogs can be when they eat stuff.
