Because writers are always told to "write what you know," and because this writer only knows that horizontal stripes are unflattering and bikinis should be reserved for those who never had C sections or at least an excellent tummy tuck, we tapped into an expert to cover Miami Swim Week for us: Sports Illustrated model Julie Henderson. What follows is her play by play correspondence from the splashy trenches, photos and all.
So one of my favorite weeks of the year, Miami Swim Week, was here again. We were planning on leaving NY in time to make all the opening parties Thursday night, however we experienced two flight delays due to the heavy rain in Miami. Sadly missed the official opening party but made it in time to catch the end of the Ocean Drive Magazine party celebrating the cover of my Sports Illustrated gal Hannah Davis, which was great. Then popped to Soho House for a cocktail, then to the Rec Room at The Gale Hotel, which has amazing 80's music playing on vinyl--we danced a little too hard, I think.
Friday I managed to fit in some
serious R&R by the amazing pool at The Gale Hotel where we were
staying. In the afternoon, we headed to The Raleigh to watch
the Agua Bendita show. It had some really great cover ups
along with an amazing one piece with a camera sewn into the print. After the
show we were off to the Soho House to catch a fab and fun Bubbly Hour
that BASTA Surf was putting on. Emily Ford and Samantha
August of Basta are good friends of mine, and I designed a 10 piece swimsuit
collection for them which launched the same day as my seventh appearance in
Sports Illustrated came out in February.
After a few champagnes, we headed to The Dutch at W Hotel for a delicious dinner. In a hurry, we made it back to The Raleigh in time for one of my favorite shows, Beach Bunny. The hair in this show was very unusual and there were so many looks. It was great sitting front row with my girls Irina Shayk and Chrissy Teigen, as we could talk about the looks as we saw them right in front of us. Also ran into Nina Adgal and Hannah Davis there. After that, we went on to party at Hyde SLS for the Beach Bunny after party, and then went to check out performance of J. Cole at LIV.
Before I knew it, it was Sunday and time to get ready for the Galore Magazine Bombshell event that I was down here to host along with Nina Adgal . By the pool at The Gale Hotel, we all hung out, swam and caught up on all the latest. Had to leave in time to make the Mara Hoffman show, which was so gorgeous. I am obsessed with the outfit they sent to wear [see above], don't you love?! Then made a 10 p.m. international flight to Europe for work. It was a quick trip, but an amazing one. Thanks for having me Miami Swim Week. Until next year.
