There are tons of parties and events going on during Super Bowl weekend, but none more important and worthy of our attendance than BET Network's SOS Saving Ourselves: Help for Haiti benefit at the American Airlines Arena on February 5. Hosted by Queen Latifah, Pharrell Williams, and Sean Combs, the nationally televised concert and telethon will benefit several organizations providing immediate relief in Haiti including Yéle Haiti, CARE and Project Medishare. The three-hour telecast will air live on BET, Centric, MTV and VH1 beginning at 8 p.m. and will include appearances and performances by Mary J. Blige, Justin Bieber, Robin Thicke, Wyclef, Lil Wayne, Drake, Keri Hilson, Pitbul, Akon, Ludacris, Chris Brown, Monica, Kirk Franklin, Nas, Damian Marley, Busta Rhymes, India Arie and more to be announced. In addition to the musical performances, the event will feature some heavy hitter celebrities answering phones during the telethon. Among them: Trey Songz, Common, David Banner, Missy Elliott, Gloria Estefan, Pete Wentz, Chrisette Michelle, Jeremih, The Dream, Jason Derulo, T-Pain and Sean Kingston. BET selected Miami as host city "given its close proximity to Haiti and [the fact that it] is home to the largest population of Haitian Americans." BET is also involved with George Clooney's telethon airing Friday. Tickets to the benefit concert will be available on Ticketmaster.com and at the American Airlines Arena box office. No word on how much they will be, or on whether Kanye West, banned from Clooney's benefit, was invited to this one or if he'll just have to purchase tickets like the rest of us. Tickets, incidentally, are $400, $200, $100, $30 and $20 and are available at 1-800-745-3000 and at Ticketmaster.com or here.

Lesley- Thanks for posting about this amazing fundraiser to benefit us here at Project Medishare, as well as several other very worthy organizations working in Haiti. We are trying to correct everybody because the "s" in Medishare isn't supposed to be capitalized! Just wanted to clear up the confusion and see if you could change it before too many people catch on and our name isn't written right. :) Thanks again for your support! We are big fans of your blog!

Why not host the telethon right now instead of convienently(spell) hosting during Super Bowl week? Let these celebs fund thier own trip to Super Bowl week!

Pap--it makes sense logistically to have it during Super Bowl since the celebs will already be here!

Now there will be absolutely no parking in the area as Bayfront has a concert that night! Why pick that venue??? Why Superbowl weekend?

If they care about Haiti then they would do the telethon even if it wasn't Super Bowl Weekend. Two weeks from now; donating to Haiti may not be on people's mind, while right now it is. BET is so irrelevant anyway. I wonder how much of the proceeds will go to fund the staff of BET 5 day stay in Miami for Super Bowl?

I like that this is happening next month - it'll keep the momentum going. And I hope Queen Latifah doesn't cancel. She seems to like to 86 her shows in Miami at the last minute.

I am an independent missionary ambassador to Haiti. I would like to make my photos (some of which were shown on the George Clooney telethon) available for the BET tribute to Haiti. I am also an award winning author and poet and would like to do some of my work from my missionary memoirs HERE'S TO HAITI: KISS, AMERICA, KISS My goal is to help rebuild hope for this devastated land that I love.
Can anybody refer me to the right people.

Will email Lank@aol.com. My heart is grieving, gone are the days that America can swoop in like the John Wayne calvary and save the day. I love you Haiti, KISSES, KISSES, KISSES. My images helped the Clooney fundraiser get millions and millions of dollars. I just talked to my friend I work with in the mountains of Haiti, he is the Superintendent of Schools for the Ranquitte, Pignon, Cape Haiti area. He has seen none of the money that Clooney raised. None of the supplies, no food, no tents and he has over 150 families from Port-au-Prince that have returned to the mountains for help. HOW CAN I GET HIM SOME HELP? Thousands upon thousands have returned to the mountains and they are not getting the relief efforts of the multituded of giving people across the world. Help, agian I say help.
