The Gossip girl rocks Art Basel

Ditto So while everyone was busy sniffing that Art Basel just wasn't cutting it this year, art dealer Jeffrey Deitch proved otherwise by throwing a spectacular party at The Raleigh Wednesday night featuring a live performance by The Gossip and opening drag king act The Kingpins. Best of all, stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe was so moved, literally, by lead singer Beth Ditto's powerhouse performance, she actually rushed up to the stage, where we could have sworn we saw a cartoon bubble pop up over her head, saying, "Hmm, so big, beautiful women really do have more fun. Maybe I should eat a cookie tonight." Just kidding. Zoe looked great, even if she was sporting gold lamé. She did not, however, join the masses, this blogger among them, on stage for the frenetic finale, when the band played on amidst a crush of crazed fans.Basel08_002

Elsewhere in Baselwood, we hear Kanye West was seen trying to get into the VIP lounge at the convention center but was not on "this list." Debatable, but amusing to think about nonetheless . . . Over at The Florida Room, Grace Jones, who performed, from what we hear, an amazing set--one which The Gossip's Ditto said she wanted to attend. Also at TFR: Benicio del Toro and Steve Buscemi.
