"I call that one 'Mount Rushmore,'" Mark Seliger told our official art correspondent, publication designer and bon vivant de la nuit Russell Hassell, of the image of the Rolling Stones whose faces possess same the granite texture of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. As a start to Art Frazzle, Mark Seliger, chief photographer for Rolling Stone (from 1992-2002) celebrated the release of his new book Mark Seliger: The Music Book by teNeues at Casa Tua Monday night. The commotion at the door and the ink on the left arm of the entrant matched that of the man on the motorcycle in the image. Lenny and Zoe Kravitz had arrived. "Mark greeted them and whipped out a camera. Zoe whipped out a camera. Their friend whipped out a camera.," Hassell said. "The DJ quickly spun some Kravitz, stepped out from behind the booth and whipped out a camera. Cameras were rotating. Pouty looks followed by more gleeful rotation of cameras." Mark had some problems, as it was a new camera he was working with, to which Kravitz commented, "You know NYU has some nice courses in photography."
Seliger images from the book. When he talked about Mount Rushmore, we thought he was referring to his iconic Dolly Parton shot.
