G3: SAN ANTONIO 111, HEAT 92: SPURS' SCORCHING FIRST HALF BURIES MIAMI: Spurs up 2-1 after routing Miami 111-92 on its own floor, Heat's first home playoff loss of this postseason. Miami trailed by as many as 25, cut it to seven at one point, but could not overcome S.A.'s hot hand. Spurs set an NBA record by shooting 75.8 percent in the first half after starting off a surreal 19-for-21. Click on Home Invasion for my column off the game. ..... Original post: Two four-letter words both starting with h: Heat and home. That is now Miami's three-peat formula in its most distilled form. Three of the
1aa1aheatspurs 1aa1aheatspuersg3five remaining NBA Finals games are in Miami -- starting tonight at 9 -- and the Heat (with the series tied 1-1) will be champs again if they do not lose on their home floor. Simple ... except that the Spurs match Miami's championship DNA. "You never put them away," as Dwyane Wade said. "They always believe, and it's the same with us." Miami is 8-0 at home this postseason, by an average winning margin of 12.4 points, while San Antonio is only 3-5 on the playoff road. Keeping that disparity intact may require better bench play by the Heat. Spurs reserves have outscored Miami by 71-32 through two games, with nobody but Ray Allen (25 points) doing much offensively forthe Heat off the bench. Miami is minus-24 points when LeBron James is not in the game, a troubling number. Continued aggressiveness by Chris Bosh, stronger bench play beyond Allen and defensive intensity are the keys tonight for Miami. I don't even mention major impact from LeBron, because that by now may be assumed.

Heat Postseason MVP Standings (updated): We name 'Heat 3 Stars' after every playoff game and award points on 3-2-1 basis. Last night: 1. Rashard Lewis; 2. LeBron James; 3. Dwyane Wade. The updated standings through 18 playoff games, including last night's Finals Game 3 loss: LeBron James 42 points, Dwyane Wade 25, Chris Bosh 19, Ray Allen 8, Rashard Lewis 7, Chris Andersen 3, Norris Cole 2, James Jones 2.

OUR HEAT-SPURS GAME 3 POSTGAME VIDEO: Heat beat writer Joseph (Goody) Goodman, in the sharp suit, and myself, in the wrinkled shirt, summarizing Tuesday night's Heat home loss in Game 3 of the Finals:

OUR HEAT-SPURS GAME 2 POSTGAME VIDEO:

LE BATARD POUNDS 'QAM IN LATEST RATINGS: Just out, the full ratings book for month of May shows the Dan Le Batard Show on 790/104.3 The Ticket with a 5.2 rating versus a 1.4 for the Marc Hochman show running concurrently from 3-7 p.m. on rival WQAM. That's in the key men's 25-54 demographic. It's closer in mornings, with 790's Zaslow & Joy show beating 'QAM's Joe Rose, 4.1 to 3.0. [Interestingly, on the Le Batard rating, the number soared into the 7s on Tuesdays during appearances by Greg Cote, according to an industry source that Cote totally made up. Cote, asked if he felt weird running a blog item about 790 winning in the ratings when he's a part of the show, said, "What? I'm sorry. I didn't hear your question."]

THE GLAMOROUS LIFE OF A SPORTS WRITER: Friends but moreso acquaintances but mostly people who don't know me tell me what a great job I have. It's understandable. I write and talk about sports for a 1aa1adelayedliving. I get that sports fans think they'd love to do that, too. May I share a couple of small doses of reality? Be in my mind late in the fourth quarter of a Heat Finals game that began at 9 p.m. No idea yet whether Miami will be lifted by a huge win or crushed by a huge loss, and the first, inflexible deadline for my column is in 20 minutes and racing toward me with the speed of Tony Parker diving to the rim. Then be with me on Monday's Travel Day From Hell, arising at 7 a.m. in San Antonio and (finally) landing in Fort Lauderdale at around 10:15 p.m. after roughly six hours of weather-related delays and waiting around. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Check that. Yes, I sure am.

FUTBLOG!: FUTBLOG! is the official World Cup soccer blog of this blog, because you can't say the word blog enough in one sentence. Just like four years ago, we'll be World Cup intensive on a daily basis starting later this week, undeterred by the Heat playoff run. Watch for it. FUTBLOG!

Joe Goodman is a trashy redneck, all the suits in the world can't hide those Skoal stains.

I'm optimistic about the Heat winning the next two home games but SA is no pushover, it will be much easier for the home team if some of our role players like Chalmers and Cole get their chit together and start contributing.

SA doesn't want to go down 3-1 in this series so they'll be a hungry team and try to "steal" one of the next two games as usual our defense will be the key, if we can contain Parker's penetration we should be fine..I say Heat 90 and SA 87 in a very very tight game.

Go Heat!

hey OC...now that the Zen master and Fishy are in the big apple running the show..are you going to be rooting for NY?

Dolphins note, apparently all the players seem to be excited about the new offense, I can't wait to see it in action...

FZ, let me answer your question this way. Did you start cheering for Pittsburgh once Dave Wannstedt left Miami to go to the Steelers?

not exactly.

I'll be simpático, but that's about it.

...I suppose the same way that I feel about Miami for Riley and my Miami roots.

Yea, but you're rooting for the Spurs and the only thing that you have from San Antonio is the smell coming from that stinking canal when the wind direction is coming towards Austin.

Oye, send me the info on Jr's trip on the 13th 'cause after I take him to the airport I'm booking to San Fran for the weekend.

OC Dolphin, real talk, you should not leave your son around Mr. Woodcock, the guy is clearly a pedo and way too interested.

Oye Wood's..take the boy to one of those fancy bordello's and get that boy laid..but don't tell OC.

hey FZB.. read this from barry jackson:
Lamar Miller remains with the starters and Philbin said he is having a “very good” camp…. Jason Fox shifted to left tackle this week, behind Branden Albert, after Nate Garner struggled in the role earlier in OTAs. That suggests the Dolphins, for now, have a comfort level with Ja'Wuan James holding down the right tackle job.

### One characteristic of Bill Lazor’s offense is a lot of pre-snap motion, but Philbin explained this week there are positives and minuses to that approach: “If you’re stationary and you’re sitting at the line of scrimmage and your ducks are in a row as we like to say, it’s a little bit easier from an offensive perspective, but you’re not challenging the defense probably as much.

"There is give and take. I think, as a coaching staff, we have to examine whether all of this motion and shifting a detriment or is it a benefit? And what’s the right blend and what’s the right balance.”

### Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle has been showing his players tape of Seattle’s defense partly to demonstrate how much emotion and enthusiasm with which they play, according to a player. What’s ironic about that: Another veteran Dolphins player says the Dolphins, during the past two years, have taken on Philbin's unemotional, at times detached personality.

hmmmm.. miller still with the starters, offense moving around and colye referencing seattle's defense..
nice to see me and the coaching staff on the same page.
how bout THEM apples, tommy dumb a#$?

why is it that some people just don't get it that saying stupid chit multiple times does not make it any less stupid.

Posted by: Tom | June 10, 2014 at 08:01 AM

that should be the title of your biography, you old fart.

only a clueless idiot would attempt to argue that those opposing the very liberal roosevelt, in the senate and the house, WERE NOT conservative republicans.
keep em coming.. lol

David..good info on the Dolphins..I'm optimistic about our team but I'm still not impressed by clue-less-Joe's approach..Coyle wants the defense to play with emotion yet our HC has none..

" What’s ironic about that: Another veteran Dolphins player says the Dolphins, during the past two years, have taken on Philbin's unemotional, at times detached personality"

I also hope he doesn't dick around and stay's out of Bill Lazor's way..

4 teams have been Top 10 in points allowed the last two seasons SF, Seattle, Cincinnati, Miami. They are doing something right over there. The success of the team rests clearly on the shoulders of one Ryan Tannehill this season no one else.

St. Elmo, not to worry. OC jr. knows fully well all about Mr. Woodcock's character. This he learned after Woods and I went massively drinking with another bud, and Woodcock passed out in the passenger seat of his own Fred McMurray-mobile, as I drove back to my place. After I arrived and did a quick check-in with my wife and son, I returned to the station wagon, with jr. Opening the door to where Woodcock had passed out, I made a parental impression on the young lad by simply stating - jr., you never want to drink so much that you end up like this.

The fact that Woodcock was covered with vomit and I needed to hose him down before carrying him into the house and placing him in a cold shower I'm sure helped all-the-more to bring the point home.

Trust me, Elmo, he knows what to expect from his Godfather.

his approach is a careful and restrained one; i'm not the biggest fan either, as it resulted in him sticking with sherman too long, etc.
i think with lazor in place, our 2014 draft hopefully panning out as expected, and the continued development and improvement of the other younger players on the roster, (we had the 9th youngest team as of last year), we could do some damage next year.. i am confident.

You're Catholic OC?

These points may all be true, Dave, but with the Patriots in our division, it's much like being the Bobcats and having to go against the Heat every year.

the Cheat-Triots are going down this year..

BB, I am to the point of regular Sunday Mass, and to being a reader for three straight years. It's never easy to judge books by covers.

... I guess I just leave it pretty much outside this blog, much like shadow checks his own faith by the door.

Just had my daughters First Communion last month.

liberals won WWII.....

that is quite literally the dumbest thing ever written on this blog.

the lend lease act won WWII.....

the second dumbest thing ever written on this blog.

Congrats, BB.

Can you refute that or are you just insulting real david because you have nothing intelligent to say?

I can post/talk about anything on the blog but I won't talk religion...

by the way guys..the blood and courage of our armed forces won WW-II.

but nice try.

What Mr. Woodcock is is OC's brother from another mother and if you said that to my face in front of Jr. I'd break you in half.

Thanks OC.

"You're Catholic, OC?"

BB, 99.99% of REAL Cubans are Catholic.

Congrats to you and your family as well, BB.

Thanks Mr. Godfather.

The damn Soviets won WW II- 10 Million of them to be exact.

The New Deal vilified by war (or neutrality) got us out of the depression, it had no real impact, except expanding big Government. Si?

Agree Russia won it. They teach you that in high school.

Lol 99.9% of Cubans believe in a socialist myth made up by middle easterners?! No wonder that islands so fuckedup!

Over 1 billion Catholics on the earth too. All of them messed up right ok.

fack the russians..we should have listen to Patton and invaded those moe-foes when we had the chance..it would have saved us a lot of headaches.

Ok the Russian Winter won it. Either way is fine.

A billion children believing their mommy and daddy's fairy stories too sad.

Exactly,Raul....grown men believing in fairy tales is hilarious. Nobody is moved by your stupid religious beliefs. Organized religion has caused nothing but damage to the world.Grow up and face the fact that one day you will cease to exist and it will be nothing but a void.Worm food and plant fertilizer, that's what you are.

dumbest thing ever? "liberals won WWII"? are you ffing serious? you need an intelligent response to recognize an absurdity? i take it back. your post is now the dumbest thing ever on the blog. congrats.

You want to guarantee the death of soccer in Miami for the next 100 years? Just keep on telling Beckham that he can't build the bloody stadium that he wants to build anywhere near any freaking location by the water and suggest that he build the new stadium right next to JRS on the parking lot in that dump in Bumfuck.

We should all be familiar with Murphy's law, an adage which states: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

Well, there's a lesser known, but equally powerfull maxim called Gore's law, which generally states: views forced down the throats of gullible people a liberal hypocrite, whose personal carbon footprint exceeds that of some third world nations, should be deemed to be 100% bullsh**.

According to a new report from the Institute For Geophysics at the University of Texas at Austin, the West Antarctic Ice Sheet melt may not, after all, be the direct result of man's selfishness, greed, and refusal to amend his carbon-guzzling lifestyle. Rather, it seems, it is the result of natural causes.

Using radar techniques to map how water flows under ice sheets, UTIG researchers were able to estimate ice melting rates and thus identify significant sources of geothermal heat under Thwaites Glacier. They found these sources are distributed over a wider area and are much hotter than previously assumed.

Translation: hot flowing currents of hot magma seems more likely to be the cause of any melting ice.

Another school shooting. This one in Oregon. There's some focked up kids in this country. Lots of piss and cowards raised on equal success for unequal labor. Only a coward hides behind a gun and ambushes his school mates. If any of these kids had any balls they would confront the kids that they have a problem with and punch them in the face. It takes more balls to that than to bring a gun into school and shoot innocent kids like they were some kind of aliens in damned video game.

fack the russians..we should have listen to Patton and invaded those moe-foes when we had the chance..it would have saved us a lot of headaches.

Posted by: FZB | June 10, 2014 at 04:57 PM

that would've costed an INSANE amount of lives, but you might have a point.

i have a better scenario.
had conservative dumb a#$ republicans, (like tom) SUPPORTED roosevelt's efforts into entering WW2 sooner, we might not have needed the russians.
had we went to europe when roosevelt wanted, hitler would've NEVER taken russia when he did.
hindsight is always 20/20, (like when tom talks about football), but even the dumbest, (tom), student of history can see america delaying entry into the war made it that much harder to win..

OC, your miami heat/new england patriots comparison is a bit off to me.
for one thing, miami is being driven by 3 stars, 2 of which are in their prime and the 3rd still quite potent.
the patriots on the other hand, still have brady, but he is entering the sunlight of his career.
he may very well be a sack away from missing some games; the recovery time at age 37 is a bit different than 27.
hopefully it's jordan that lays the hit.
it'll be fun hearing tom squeal some more about how awful that pick was.. lol

*entering the twilight..

"liberals won WWII" hahahahaahahahahahahaha

dumbest post on this blog EVER!!!

david Jordan may end up being a good pick but him living up to the number three overall billing is unlikely we will see. His larger point is that it was the wrong pick for the team last year due to it being a luxury pick not a team need and he is 100 percent correct in that assessment.

He has gained some weight though and seems fully recovered from injury. Here is hoping that he can be an impact player that would be great.

"liberals won WWII" hahahahaahahahahahahaha

Moron, do you have anything other than ad hominem attacks to say about the idea that FDR and liberals won WW2?

Wow,,, Spurs knocked the snot out of Heat.

you want MORE comedy, just ask the dummy what caused the housing crisis, OR how old obamacare is.. the hits just keep coming.. lol

as for the heat, we got pasted tonight; it sucks that we let homecourt slip away, but we're still down 2-1, not 3-1.
hopefully san antonio won't break anymore efficiency records next game. that was painful..

(the real) david in los angeles: "liberals won WWII" ...

the dumbest post on the blog ever!!!

QAM blows! Eff Jolly Joe Bell. Eff the Beasleys. Eff Joyce

fellers,

what do those wafers taste like? gotta be a more digestible commodity than matzoh. and what about that wine? 5% alcohol? i have yet to eat anything while on my knees (standing also not great). what do you do during football season out there in california when the games start at 10 a.m.? besides the shtick, it is nice to be associated with "people of faith". can you get another shot of wine if you request one (or more)? heat were down twenty at the half and no way it was gonna stay that way all game, but hey, losing when a team shoots near 80% for a half is in the cards. how did my guy kawhi leaonard do?

“I take responsibility, but I was not making security decisions.”

"I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it."

"I always take responsibility, but this predates my presidency. When I was in the Senate, I was on the Veterans Affairs Committee. I heard first-hand veterans who were not getting the kinds of services and benefits that they had earned,"

Tastes like boy sperm.

The spurs move the ball so well! That combined with their sense of urgency = the blow out. Now it's Miami's turn!

Bob Welch, 1990 AL Cy Young Winner, Passes Away Tragically at 57 Years Old

How horribly sad. My wife and I met Bob during his playing days with the A's at FAO Schwarz in San Francisco. It was a few days before Christmas 1989. I recognized him and went up and introduced myself. He could not have been more gracious. We had 10 minutes with Bob just talking baseball. A great day for me.

RIP Bob and thanks for the memory. You were a great pitcher and a really nice man.

Oy, just rub a little vasoline on your lips before you blow the little bugger, people start kvetching at you when you give their kids herpes!

Wade & James have to carry the Heat because the rest of the team's dead weight.

Rashard Lewis has played really well...there has been some solid play from the bench...unfortunately,we have a starting point guard who has gone completely M.I.A....Birdman hasn't been right since the injury...Bosh has been average at best and ppl like Norris Cole need to step their game up...last night was an anomaly and when a team is shooting 76 % the chances of beating them are slim to none...Heat bounce back in the next game and make it a best of 3...

boys,

i guess kawhi leonard did okay last night, 29 points from him again and send those 3peat shirts to the sudan.

shadow

not so fast my friend. blowouts in nba finals mean nothing. game 1 1985 finals the celtics massacre the lakers 148-114. lakers win game 2. game 3 the lakers destroy the celtics 136-111. celtics win game 4.

this series is going 7 and in a 7th game the team with the best player most often wins. i like miami's chances

Heat will make the proper adjustments...not a chance in hell Leonard shoots for 29 tomorrow...

I'd rather spend the rest of my life in a hell hole in isolation for beating that insufferable Manu whatever his name is into saw dust with a 36 ounce baseball bat during half time of the next game at AA arena than to see and hear that jack ass root and jump and down yelling, "We win, win. I keek a field goal."

Mother focking ass wipe.

Woodcock, just because he reminds you of Che...? What did poor Ginobili ever do to you?

Oh-gē, Oh-gē.

Hahahahaha.....

Ernesto Guevara.

That game was embarrassing. Takes a team to win a championship. One guy can't do it, including Jordan. Time to show up guys. They already showed up on the other bench.

boys,

i guess kawhi leonard did okay last night, 29 points from him again and send those 3peat shirts to the sudan.

Posted by: the shadow knows | June 11, 2014 at 02:51 PM

where was leonard before last night, shadow?
that's right.. lol
i suppose if san antonio continues to break offensive efficiency records, then this series is over.
considering pop himself said they will never shoot that well again, a loss is a loss.
we're down 2-1. each team has won on the other's court, and it's still anyone's series.

I bet it kills Hochman every day knowing that LeBatard's show went national after he left, his ego got the best of him. He is good as a third wheel but he can't carry his own show with his corny wanna be stand up comedian act.

His show went national because his dad is a Cuban mensch.

Woodcock - Manu (Emanuel David Ginobili, a.k.a. Gino, Narigon, El Contusione – you can check with Charles Barkley for correct pronunciation of his last name) didn't beat your Heat. A team did. Suggest you try a little tolerance, and maybe switch to decaf.

The NBA has been exporting itself globally for decades and the Spurs are one result. Over half of the 15 players were born outside the U.S. so you may need to get used to people with accents at the podium.

Woodcock, tolerance?!

Decaf!!!??

Hahahahahahahahahaha

Mike, this has zero to do with basketball.

I will say that when the Helix played the Royals and Ralph Puertas at 225 lbs in 9th grade was killing us going up the middle with disdain and the $100 that we put up for the game (Ten Gs today) was going up in smoke we huddled and said, "Oye, I don't give a crap if we've known Ralph since 5th grade. Remember that he broke his right leg last summer in a motorcycle accident. The very next play they ran Ralph up the middle and we broke his leg again.

They didn't call me cheap shot Woodcock at Miami High for nothing. I never heard a whistle that I obeyed.

Like I said, "This has nothing to do with basketball."

OC, you do realize that I'm a little edgy since the Irish Bombshell returned from Ireland on Sunday...........I'm leaving for San Francisco on Monday.

Thanks for the FYI. I was trying to figure out why all the p*** and vinegar.

Woodcock-a legend in his own mind.

Neither do beatings, baseball bats or bigotry. It's a free country so no one will rein you in but you.

LEGEND.

Bigotry?

Please.

Oh Mikee did I hurt your little feelings? Go on and mommy is going to put a nice little Elmo bandi on it.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

OC, the funny thing is that jack ass Tin Crap thinks I made up the Helix story......

real dave,

take away the shooting of last night as something that will happen again. i happen to have liked kawhi leonard since his san diego state days, understand that had he made the first free throw at the end of last year's game 6 ray allen's shot would have been moot, and also understand that if has a big night or two to go along with the rest of the spurs' consistent players the heat will have a tough task, even with the best player in the world.

This is a test.

Tom,

i am familiar with the boston massacre of memorial day of '85 and the perfect 11/11 that scott wedman had for the celtics. looking ahead, i would never discount the heat's chances barring another absurd night such as the spurs had last night. as posted above, i have not ruled out miami's chances- just feel if if kawhi leonard or danny green or the like go off it will be a tough chore. am fully aware that they were down 3-2 to the keltics a couple of years ago headed to boston and took games 6 and 7, and would be capable of the same against the spurs, just as last year when down 3-2 and went on to win.

The rumors of my demise.......

See LA Kings.

Don't ever count your chickens before they're hatched, Shad.

Duncan 5 rings
Lebron 2 rings

Yea, and the Italian army used to rule the whole of the Mediterranean 1500 years ago. Now all their tanks have one gear, reverse.

Lebron is a media fabrication, eagerly adopted by the malleable minds of the common folk.

No honey, that story was very boring and very sad, no one thinks you made it up, they just think you're pathetic because that story is the pinnacle of your life.

fellers,

what are you guys reading? never stated the series was over, only that if the spurs 4th, 5th, or 6th best players (leonard, green, diaw) go off for 30 points it will be difficult. also stated that the team with the best player on earth should never be counted out. also comes the stat that the locals have never lost two playoff games in a row of late- so what's the big tzimmis about?
