5 signs Pacers are imploding (including Vogel-yell video); plus James, Bosh lead G4 win, Heat postseason MVP table, fast food & more

FIVE INDICATIONS THE PACERS ARE IMPLODING: No, I mean beyond their 3-1 series deficit to Miami that now makes their odds of winning the Eastern Conference finals equal to the likelihood Kim Kardashian will suddenly eschew fame and spotlight and quietly become a nun:

1aa1apgeorgepost1. Paul George's postgame lunacy: "I thought we outplayed them," he said late last night, as a large room full of media looked at each other and worked to stifle outbursts of braying, incredulous laughter. George said he found it "demoralizing" that Indiana was so superior in all phases and yet lost at the free-throw line because of "home cooking" by the officials. (Over/under on the league fine the NBA cooks up for George: $25,000). By the way, somebody point out to Paul that Miami scored 20 points off his team's turnovers, and invite him to blame the refs for that. Lame excuses, Indiana.

2. Lance Stephenson's mouth: (See my rrelated game column) Lance's maw was wide open and yakking before the game, talking about how LeBron James' trash talking had been a "sign of weakness" and that he was "under his skin." Then, during the game last night, Lance was as a church mouse. Somebody give that man a choke sign.

3. Roy Hibbert zeroes in. Hibbert can do the seemingly impossible. He can be a 7-2 giant on national television, and completely disappear. Last night: 0 points. Your cat scored as many. Pacers were minus-23 points with him on the court. And his defense against Chris Bosh was as nonexistent as his offense.

4. World's shortest bench. This doesn't really fit with the others, but, have you noticed? In terms of bench/depth/rotation, Indiana is pretty much bereft with the exception of Luis Scola and his 1970s hair.

5. Frank Vogel's schoolyard yell. Saved my favorite for last. This is a classic. Vogel, the Pacers' nerdy coach, screaming at Shane Battier as he attempts a three-point shot. Recalls my old Little League days, when, as the opposing outfielder raced toward a fly ball, we'd shout, "TREE STUMP!" C'mon, Frank. Seriously!? Be a grownup. Postscript: Battier made the shot.

G4: HEAT 102, INDIANA 90: MIAMI IN CHARGE AT 3-1: LeBron James' 31 points and 10 rebounds and schooling of Lance Stephenson was the big story overall, although Chris Bosh's fast start and 25 points set the early tone. Click on Thou Shall Not Irritate LeBron James for my full column off the game. Original post: Looking at tonight's Game 4 from two angles. I love the seven-game series format because every result dramatically alters the framework of how the series looks and feels. Take tonight back at the downtown bayside arena. A 1aa1azheat-pacg4 1aa1alenlanceMiami win to make it a 3-1 series lead would put the defending-champion Heat in full control of these Eastern Conference finals and have even the most hopeful Pacers fans bracing for a third 1aa1aecfstraight playoff elimination by their nemesis. But! A road upset by the Pacers tonight to even the series 2-2, with Game 5 in Indianapolis, would swing momentum suddenly back to the team that is both the No. 1 seed and yet the underdog. OK that's the big-picture angle. Now the other one. I also love a seven-game series format because it is long enough to become its own soap opera. Hard fouls on the court and dumb comments off it can turn up the intensity and volume. That happened in the runup to tonight's game when Pacers guard Lance Stephenson said Sunday that LeBron James trash-talked him in the last game and called that "a sign of weakness" by James. (The two are pictured, with Stephenson either defending James or trying to kiss him on the left cheek). There is a history here. Lance, of course, made a choke sign (from the bench) in the 2012 playoffs after James missed a key late free throw. Stephenson is 23, so I suppose he can still play the young-and-stupid card, but two points  must be made here. 1) Publicly jabbing LeBron is never smart. He is due a monster game offensively; his 49-pointer in Brooklyn is his only plus-30 since the first round. And you know James would delight in showing up the mouthy Stephenson tonight. 2) Stephenson is a nice young player, a pretty good shooting guard, active defender, and also somebody who would not start for Miami. Three NBA seasons have not seen him within shouting distance of an all-star team or a leaderboard. Stephenson is a grain of sand. LeBron is the beach. It will be delicious to see if those roles come clear tonight.

Heat Postseason MVP Standings (updated): We name 'Heat 3 Stars' after every playoff game and award points on 3-2-1 basis. Tonight: 1. LeBron James, 2. Chris Bosh, 3. Dwyane Wade. The updated standings through 13 playoff games, including tonight's Heat-Pacers Game 4: LeBron James 31 points, Dwyane Wade 22, Chris Bosh 11, Ray Allen 8, Chris Andersen 2, Norris Cole 2, James Jones 2.

ironic or moronic? Stephenson can ball but his mouth gets him in trouble! the old adage, "his mouth writing checks his *ss can't cash!" Riley is straight pimp can 3peat in the sack!! most of us can barely repeat!! GO RILEY!!!

Test.

Heat roll. This wss so predictable that even david could see it.

Predictable in every sense of the word.Where are all the people who were declaring the demise of the Heat? I haven't seen any of them for a week or so.Funny how that works.I can't wait for the Heat to give them the death blow on their own court tomorrow night!

and Paul George saying that they out-played the Heat was classic....classic delusion. This is what happens to mentally broken teams, the delusion kicks in full force as a defense mechanism. It's easier than dealing with harsh reality....and Stephenson,wow...I just have no words.

Didn't hear pacers crying about calls that the refs made after game 1. So now is the time to start crying over calls its funny how the pacers are all smiles when they win but dumbfounded when they lose..pg24 how in the world could say yall outplayed the heat last night when you never had a single lead in the game period ...all talk pacers..what happened to all the chatter about a game 7 on your court....my bad pacers....your looking like it won't be a game 7 at bankers life.๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hello Charles Barkley....what ever happened to your pacers with the trade for Evan Turner I thought u said they were winning the east hands down....turner hasn't even touched the floor in basically the entire playoffs..and you want LBJ to leave this to go back to Cleveland....I need to smoke wateva it is that your smoking before you leave Arizona to the TNT studio in Atlanta...because that s%#t have u and your two lil dogs tripping

The Big Three made Memorial day memorable with their strong play in the Heat's win Monday.Miami needs to polish off the childish Pacers as soon as possible.I fear dirty play by these brats Wednesday night so the Heat need to keep their cool and avoid suspensions and watch for dirty methods to injure them.the Pacers are not in the class of the Heat,OKC or the Spurs so seeing them defeated as soon as possible is a must.

I remember during the first round vs the BOBCATS commentators are all together predicting MIAMI's end of reign because the boBcats played close that game. (I think the HEAT only won by 12 or 15) REALLY??????? Supposedly Barkley said DWade is now old and Chris Bosh is weak ..... But if DWade is old and Miami Heat is old what would you consider the Spurs??? JURASSIC ?

Disturbing pic of Riley but would rather have him in charge of my team even an NFL one than say Stevareno the Dolphins current mishap...

Maybe someone could catch Stevie on tape saying ugly things about the other owners mothers or wives or concubines...

In the NBA it's all about what team has the best player. The Celtics with Russel, the Lakers with Kareem and Magic, the Celtics again with Bird, Bulls and Jordan, Olajuwon when Mike was in limbo, the Lakers again with Kobe and Shack, Duncan and the Spurs, now you have LeBron James and the Heat. Like Mark Jackson says, "There goes that man again!" Yup, as long as that boy has a pulse Miami has a ring. There isn't a team on the planet that can match up with him, too big, too strong, too fast, too good. "No brag just fact."

Ed1,

Funny thing, perception. One would automatically think that the Spurs are older than just about any team in the NBA. However, a closer examination would reveal that the combined age of the Spurs team is 429, versus the Heat at 455. That's basically 28 to 30.

Even when one compares the starting players, plus the usual four that come off the bench for both teams you still see a 30 yr. average for the Spurs, to 32 years for the Heat.

This has nothing to do with who wins, or should win. I'm just pointing out that perceptions do not always ring true.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

"There are lies, damn lies, and statistics."

Speaking of statistics. The average human of average weight carries approximately 5 to 20 pounds of dried fecal matter ...in Mr. Woodcock's case, the number is closer to 80 pounds.

Again reading the stats wrong, OC. That 80 pounds that you're referring to is my redwood hanging below my waist.

"Thud!"

What on earth does the average age of the San Antonio Spurs have to do with the NBA championship or the price of tea in China, OC?

The Heat could have Ernie, Charlie, you, and me starting along with LeBron and they would still have an even shot at winning the whole thing.

That dude is just head and shoulders above everyone else in the game right now and the next guy down on the list can't be seen from where LeBron is standing even if you turned up the Hubble Telescope to Blitzkrieg.

props to you guys for saying the Heat where that much better than the Pacers, I must admit I was very skeptical considering the Heat have had so much trouble in the past with teams with big front lines..

they need to closet out this series on wed and rest up for the finals, now if we can get OKC to make this a series.

yoe Woody, I think OC just insulted you bra...hehe

thank god the heat won; it would've sucked to hear tom blame ireland for the loss..

OC, has to be the only Miamian not rooting for the Heat.

Wassup, OC!

Dapper, the sound that you hear are thousands of people jumping on the Heat bandwagon again.

I did not know that OC...

Woodcock...the only guy I know, who if asked - what does 2 + 2 equal? Would reply: f*** off, OC. Don't ask me to solve trigarithmic enquations!

indeed.. woody..
i called it in november..this team is on all cylinders right now, and no one can beat us..

I can't wait for the Heat to take it in front of that crowd tomorrow night....

did i say miami's 2013 draft sucks? I said so far there are no starters from that draft class -tom

Read more here: http://blogs.herald.com/random_evidence/2014/05/g3-indiana-heat-xxx.html#storylink=cpy

you're not going to revise history AGAIN tom.
you have REPEATEDLY, since the day AFTER the draft, declared 2013 a bust and FZB, baby and i will all hold you accountable to that asinine opinion when at least 3 of the picks from last year are contributing heavily this coming year..

that's a good one David..yup ,Tommy-Boy would have blamed Ireland for-sur if the Heat had lost yesterday..hehe

what's up Tom!!..

and by the way, that draft wasn't the reason ireland was fired.
OUR RECORD WAS.
now i know what you'll say, but the fact is, management and coaching were not on the same page, especially with who should be playing.
of course a REAL coach like shula would adapt to the talent he has, rather than stubbornly insisting on doing things only one way, but i digress..

Holy Christ david, just stop.

You and FZB sound like absolute morons, Jeff Ireland's record picking players in the draft is completely indefensible. He was a horrible GM who strung together year after year after year of horrible drafts.

You've already been proven wrong, his horrible draft classes didn't pan out and he was fired.

Just stop.

hey Enough..no reason to insult me like that, hey I have feelings you know.

and Enough..just to set the record straight, Ireland's first draft was in 2011, 2012 and 2013..bash him all you want, I don't care but its like that asswipe Parcell's was never here...

in Ireland's first draft we have two starters, Pouncey and Clay, his second Tannehill, Miller and Vernon and last year's is still up in the air but most of the top rookies were injured for long periods of time..

if your getting between two to three starters per draft you're doing good..that's NFL people talking, not me.

and may I suggest you also put a little blame on our inept coach?..he's clueless and he sucks.

on the Heat/Pacers..Bosh was very good yesterday..no reason to bash the guy but we need him to duplicate it again tomorrow night, now if Chalmers can somehow give us something then we'll be allright.

Indiana will come out with guns blazing, we just have to play defense and stay with them but they don't have the offensive fire power to keep up with the Heat, the Heat should be able to close them out.

ps..there's a report out that Birdman and Allen may not be available tomorrow night due to injuries, no bueno.

hey enough?
get your mouth of tom's you know what and pay attention; i'm not asking, i'm telling.

ireland had more hits than misses; if you want to see what teams who can't draft players and don't have draft success look like, just look at the browns or raiders, you nitwit.

pouncey, clay, tannehill, vernon, shelby, matthews, miller and wilson are all quality starts, one of whom is a pro bowler.

With a 3 to 1 lead, they're just resting the infirmed, protecting for the Finals. No need to take added risk.

oye FZB?
we'll have the last laugh, amigo.
when we're winning next year, with ireland's picks contributing, they won't be able to say anything.. lol
even tommy boy..
see how he's already leaving room for the team to do well, magically of course, without ANY contribution from ireland's 3 drafts? lol.. dummies..

Just stop, you sound absolutely delusional and pathetic.

Everyone but you two recognized how horrible Ireland was in the draft, and now he's been fired.

You just sound absurd trying to still defend his indefensible draft record, everyone everywhere knows how bad Ireland is at drafting, except you two homer fools.

Oh boy..who's Stahp?

OC...if Birdman and Allen are out tomorrow night we still have R Lewis and James Jones to take their place...Lewis has played D West very well defensibly and J Jones can still rain 3's ...we should be ok.

And David...I like you think we'll see a big improvement from last year's rookie class..I think both Dion Jordan and Taylor will be big contributors to the defense and Maybe Dallas Thomas surprises in the offense...

WTF? Oye, OC, what the heck is going on down there in Texas? Bro, they're selling 4,500 square feet on 2 acres for $45,000! Are you sure that these houses are north of the Rio Grande?

Now the article says that Norman, OK is another great place to live. But I've driven through Norman on the way to OKC from Dallas and all I saw in Norman were tumbleweeds, armadillos, and heifers sitting on the side of the road selling water melons for twenty cents a pound. Does Harligen, Tx. have 'lectricity and indoor plumbing, OC?

https://homes.yahoo.com/news/cheapest-cities-to-live-in--2014-192036843.html

FZB..
"stahp is just another one of tom's names; he loves posting under different names, so it appears more people agree with him.

remember, hermano, these dummies cannot have it both ways.
WHEN the dolphins are doing well next year, ireland gets some of the credit for that.

unless, of course, he cuts every ireland draft pick and fee agent, of course.. lol

Woody...if you really wanna know about a dump..try Kansas..they even tried to GIVE THE LAND AWAY FOR FREE and no one wanted it...hehe

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/03/30/91343/free-land-in-kansas-towns-fails.html

Even the Cubans stayed away and you know how we are about free things..

Jeff Ireland isn't with the Dolphins anymore, he gets no "credit" or "blame" from his picks anymore.

The only two people on the planet who still give a s*** about Jeff Ireland are you clowns, because you're embarrassed that you defended him all this time and are desperately trying to salvage some shred of credibility.

Give it up. You were both embarrassingly wrong about Jeff Ireland. Accept it and move on, no one else is keeping score anymore.

LOL!

Oh yea, that has to be beyond a pile of garbage for the Cubes not descend on Kansas en mass.

Batman and Robin. Durant and Westbrook. Let's get the real show on the road here. OKC and the Heat.

enough?
blow me and then FZB.
players careers can last more than a year, so when wallace is killing it next year with tanny, when clay continues his ascension to the top tier tight end, when vernon is a league leader in sacks and when miller is running the ball well, then i will be reminding you who got those players, dummy

And I'll remind you that you sound like a pathetic fool desperately trying to salvage your nonexistent credibility and that Jeff Ireland was fired because of his indefensible drafting record and will never get another GM job.

Spurs looked old, slow and unable to adjust last night. Better than the whole East, huh? My ass they are...good chance they will be fishing in a few days.

Cote , right on about the Pacers, they are falling apart, lol Also interesting to note that KFC is fourth in total restaurants operating but Chick-Fil-A has out paced them in revenue for the first time according to recent reports even though they have over a thousand fewer restaurants! I figured I'd throw that in while we were talking about chicken feed for the Heat, sorry I mean the Pacers!

ireland had more hits than misses;

Posted by: (the real) david in los angeles | May 27, 2014 at 04:31 PM

Let's do a little investigating of david's assertion that ireland had more hits than misses. here is the complete list of all players drafted by ireland after taking total control of the team...

Dion Jordan DE Jamar Taylor DB Dallas Thomas OL Will Davis DB Jelani Jenkins LB Dion Sims TE Mike Gillislee RB Caleb Sturgis K Don Jones SS Ryan Tannehill QB
Jonathan Martin OL Olivier Vernon DE Michael Egnew TE
Lamar Miller RB Josh Kaddu LB B.J. Cunningham WR Kheeston Randall DT Rishard Matthews WR
Mike Pouncey OL Daniel Thomas RB
Clyde Gates WR Charles Clay TE
Frank Kearse DT
Jimmy Wilson DB

A total of 24 players drafted in three years. FOUR STARTERS..Pouncey, Clay, Tannehill and Vernon.

"if you want to see what teams who can't draft players and don't have draft success look like, just look at the browns or raiders, you nitwit."

Posted by: (the real) david in los angeles | May 27, 2014 at 04:31 PM

So let's take a look at the Browns and Raiders over the past three years. Oakland drafted 24 players from 2011-2013. They currently have 5 starters from those 24 players on still on their roster (Hayden, S Moore, Bergstrom, Wisniewski and D Moore http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/oak).

The Browns also drafted 24 players over that time period. Like the Dolphins they produced four starters that are still currently on the roster (Bryant, Schwartz, Taylor, Cameron http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/cle).

So the great Jeff Ireland produced draft classes that were worse than Oakland and the equal of Cleveland.

So david whadathink? by your own benchmark of chitty drafts (Oakland and Cleveland) it appears Miami was equally pathetic. Right?

Didn't see Shelby on that list he had 10 sacks last season he will be playing much more. Jimmy Wilson is essentially a starter in most packages. Ireland missed on too many high round picks during his tenure. Some good finds in later rounds but you have to be better early to keep your job. I hope this concludes Ireland talk for awhile but I know it won't.

Rishard Matthews is going to get a lot of playing time this year as a # 4 WR. He showed signs at the end of last season that he is an up and coming player. Might end up being vg late round pick. Still remember that great sideline catch against NE late. Lazor will find a way to play to his strengths hopefully.

shadow I disagree with the decision to leave Landon Donovan off the US squad. He has experience and at 32 isn't over the hill yet. Klinsman better know what he is doing because if I am Donovan I am not happy right now.

Plus Ray Hudson agrees with me too.

Hope I didn't jinx Rishard Matthews. After reading Buzz column Jackson implied that he has character issues. Hope he gets on board soon team needs him. FZB no idea what has happened to the Red Sox but two in a row is a start I guess. Maybe it's not their year but plenty of time left to find out. I know I am posting a lot just playing catch up. Woodcock how are things on the Kings bandwagon? You usually jump on about now.

BB

Jimmy Wilson is 2nd string on the depth chart at ESPN.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/depth/_/name/mia/formation/4-3-defense

He may play but he is not the starter.

Doesn't really matter I think I proved my point even though our favorite knucklehead will never get it...not you FZB.

That depth chart needs updating Misi is playing inside now. Weird to see Starks listed second string. Wilson will get lots of run in nickel and dime packages he will play more than 50 percent of the time.

Any 6-3 450lb fullbacks with 4.28 forty speed out there???
