G2: Heat 87, Indiana 83: Miami ties series as LeBron, Wade surge in 4Q; plus Hoosiers hate me, Heat Postseason MVP standings (updated) & more

Click on LeBron And Wade To The Rescue for my column from Indy off last night's Heat's game 2 win. And see our postgame video just below.

G2: HEAT 87, PACERS 83: JAMES, WADE COMBINE FOR 22 IN 4TH TO LEAD RALLY: LeBron James and Dwyane combined for 22 of their 44 points in the fourth quarter to rally Miami to a series tying 87-83 win last night in Indy. They shot 9-for-12 in the fourth and scored the team's final 20 points in the last 7:51 of the game. Wade was 5-for-5 in the fourth. It was an amazing statement by the Heat's two best players, and just when absolutely needed. Honorable mention as well to Norris Cole, who scored 11 off the bench and served up some great late defense to cool off Lance Stephenson. And to Birdman Andersen, who had a team-best 12 rebounds. Original post: The Heat have not lost consecutive games in the playoffs since the 2012 conference finals, a span of 39 postseason games. Tonight in Indianapolis, Miami must keep that streak alive to avoid going down 2-0 1aa1aheatg2 1aa1aheatpacers2in these Eastern finals. The home team in this rivalry has won eight straight games and 13 of the past 15 -- another hurdle the Heat must overcome. "We understand the urgency of a response," as coach Erik Spoelstra put it. Said LeBron James: "You go in with the mindset that's it's must-win." Indiana's 107-96 victory in Game 1 Sunday was thorough, wire to wire. Tonight the Heat must be better across the board, but especially on the defensive end. Udonis Haslem starting place of Shane Battier will help there, and that in turn will allow LeBron to be a perimeter defender again and not expend energy battling David West. Another help. It'll take more than more intense urgency on defense, though. Miami must shoot much better on 3's than Sunday's abysmal 6-for-23. Must get more than Game 1's paltry four offensive rebounds. And must get to the free-throw line a lot more (that starts with LeBron and Dwyane Wade) to not repeat Indiana's absurd 37-15 FT advantage in Game 1. Expect LeBron to be in take-charge mode and lead an inspired Heat effort.

Heat Postseason MVP Standings (updated): We name 'Heat 3 Stars' after every playoff game and award points on 3-2-1 basis. From Heat-Pacers Game 2 tonight: Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Norris Cole are 1-2-3. Updated standings through 11 playoff games, after tonight: LeBron James 26 points, Dwyane Wade 18, Chris Bosh 9, Ray Allen 7, Chris Andersen 2, Norris Cole 2, James Jones 2.

POSTGAME VIDEO: Heat beat writer Joseph "Goodie" Goodman and myself, the untelegenic guy on the right, discuss last night's Heat win:

INDIANA HATES ME, LORD I CAN'T GO BACK THERE: My email in-box and Twitter feed has been engorged 1aa1alebronfatheadwith hundreds of angry messages in response to this column by me off Game 1. Actually it was in response to one paragraph low in the column, in which I refer to Pacers fans holding up large photos depicting LeBron James (pictured) and Dwyane Wade wearing pink bras. In addition Wade has a pacifier in his mouth and LeBron has a bow on his headband. I thought the bow lent the visual effect of an Aunt Jemima-style kerchief that seemed a bit racist to me. Not saying that was the intent, but for me it crossed a line. That was part of a column detour in which I discussed how rude Pacers fans can be when it comes to the Heat. (And I didn't even mention the 'F--- LeBron' T-shirts). Anyway, sensitive Indianapolisites have reacted as if I called their entire city racist, when my remark was limited to one particular questionable image. (I especially enjoyed a comically outraged, 1aa1amebowhuffing-and-puffing response in something called the 'Indy Sports Report'). Postscript: I have seen on Twitter that the Pacers folks in charge of the "G2 Zone," a dedicated section of rowdy fans where the image shown appeared, have ordered it not to be repeated at Game 2 tonight. And sure enough, I see the image nowhere in the crowd. Update: One of my haters in Indy posted the photo of me at left on Twitter. It's funny. Unlike many Pacers fans, I have a sense of humor. The photo is doctored, of course. The bow was added. However, that's actually my body. Further update: A Twitterer told me folks from this area don't like to be called Indianapolisites. They prefer to be called Hoosiers Whosiers.

Poll result: Pacers most disliked opponent: I think this is an in-the-moment result, at least the lopsidedness of it, but I asked, you answered and 57.4 percent called Indiana the Heat's most disliked opponent. New York Knicks came in second at 17.4% and then Chicago Bulls at 11.7%, with four other options splitting what was left.

1aa1aumpA GOOD DEED. BUT STILL WEIRD:
Major League Baseball umpires, in town for tonight's Marlins game, visited patients today at Miami Children's Hospital. I am trying to picture the look on a young patient's face when into his hospital room strides an umpire in full regalia. I'm guessing the look would be a cross between fright and bewilderment.

A pink headband with a bow is a kerchief? The Pacers have no black players that those fans cheer for? I guess when they make fun of Greg's BFF he plays the race card what a joker.

I hope the Pacers win just to see Greg look like the sore loser that he is.

Greg, you have to be the most divisive figure for this entire news site. Oh wait, you're just a columnist for the Miami Herald. Go figure.

defense Greg is an ultra liberal left wing fruit cake it's all about race with him. Not sure where you are politically but thought I would keep you up to speed. My 7 year old daughter has about 10 of those pink headbands with the bow on top and she is white as white can be. Oh I forgot there are a lot of white people living in Indiana they must all be racist Cote should be embarrassed.

Be a man. Apologize now Greg.

Come on, folks. Cut Greg Cote some slack. You've got to figure that he's just a tad disappointed no one rushed to lick the piece of cake he smeared all over his mouth at the Lady Gaga concert...not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you.

Hey Greg, if the Indiana Fans holding the signs had been black, would you have seen something different? Please, thicken your chalky skin. I don't think LeBron or DWade could even care.

FYI the cutouts have been banned not because they were (wrongly) perceived to be racist, but for fear that they would be seen as sexist or homophobic due to Lebron and Wade wearing bras. Greg Cote is the cheapest of the cheap journalists. You are wrong in your title though. You CAN come back to Indiana, we just hope you won't.

Yeah you have a sense of humor. Like accusing fans of being racist is a joke. Say you're sorry for being stereotypical and be done with it. You would expect the same of anyone else who wrongly offended a group of people.

The Heat dynasty could end tonight with a loss.A Pacers win would put them up 2-0 and would put them in the driver's seat in the series and even if Miami could comeback it would likely take seven games which could lead to a rout in the NBA Finals by the future 2014 NBA Champion Spurs. The tacky Pacer fans along with their scummy team will cause me to be a Spurs supporter if Indiana makes the Finals.

Poor sportsmanship running rampant on this blog.

Sports -- particularly basketball -- is a mind game. The Indiana fans got to Greg Cote's melon head in a rash way. Greg Cote, in response, calls them a racist because of a silly pink kerchief. Is this guy foolish or what?

you kids need to cut Greg some slack..dumb people sometimes say and do dumb things..

well tonight's game will tell us if the Heat are still serious contender's for the NBA title this year, at any rate who ever comes out of the East will have nearly the impossible task of beating the San Antonio Spur's..

Oh I almost forgot..when does football start again?

Totally foolish Lamar. Completely non objective. Can't separate himself from the sports fans. Unprofessional.

mayberd, no team wants to go down 0-2, but should Miami go down 0-2 tonight, they would have to win both home games at home AND steal one on the road in Indiana and of course take care of business at home in a game 6 scenario or game 7. It is a tall task but I saw them do it in 2006 against Dallas.

Fanboy is getting angrier by the minute. Twitter updates? Mocking the fans? lol.

ok..I guess old Greg is not the only nut-case in these parts..hehe

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/deadline-miami/2014/05/man-goes-nuts-dives-through-two-windows.html

I've said before and I'll say it again, Indiana has its own problems but they do match up very well against the Heat, they are strongest were we are the weakest which is in the front line..the Heat are a resilient team so I won't count them out until its over but if they lose tonight it will be difficult for them to come back.

anywho..it will be interesting tonight.

Big Baby is unbearable, shut up dude, stop being such a douche.

Great article by Greg Cote, Miami needs to stop Indy's pick and roll offense, Battier and Allen can't keep up with George and LeBron and Bosh can't contain Hibbert or West if they put it on the floor. Playing Haslem and moving LeBron to George solves a lot of problems

FZB you're right people do dumb things but when they do they should say I am sorry not pretend they are blameless.

how can you say that something Pacers fans did looked racist and then say it wasn't your intent to point that out? The Gregometer indicates a very high level of BS right now.

Cote and Le Batard when in doubt, play the race card. cote is pathetic, and Le Batard is nothing but a quota hire by the herald.

Yeah, people do dumb things all the time. Like leaving out comma's when they post so that everything becomes a giant run-on sentence.Sort of like if a 5 year old were to type...

A quota hire by the Herald? What are you retarded? He's such a good writer that the Herald retains him just so they can publish his essays whenever he feels like writing one. He has the #1 radio show in south Florida and is so popular that ESPN hired him to be the afternoon drive on their national station, and they gave him his own daily TV show. I swear, you old people are so obsessed with "politics" (which FYI is just a recreational past time and not even related to actual governance) that you can't see anything outside of that prism. It's just sad.

I don't expect the Heat to lose tonight. If Indiana does win, they will have climbed - to use a tired cliche - climbed to another level. They will most certainly need to do that, or get ousted in six.

Say Todd,

Towhommightyoubereferrinto?

Imeannoteveryoneisarhodesscholarlikeyou....knowwhatImean?

Being able to write coherent sentences is the mark of an average mind, not a Rhodes Scholar. But compared to the old fools on this blog I guess an average mind is a Rhodes Scholar.

Big Three need to earn pay today. The rest just need to play some D and limit turnovers. Oh, n Ray Allen be Ray Allen.

how can you say that something Pacers fans did looked racist and then say it wasn't your intent to point that out? The Gregometer indicates a very high level of BS right now.

that's not what cote said.

THIS is what he said:
"I thought the bow lent the visual effect of an Aunt Jemima-style kerchief that seemed a bit racist to me. Not saying that was the intent, but for me it crossed a line."

i do not agree with him, but if you're so quick to always say something ISN'T racist, (and of course all white people are self-proclaimed "experts" on that), why is it so awful that cote gave an opinion thinking something "crossed a line" for him? saying it crossed the line for him, AND explaining that he didn't think that was the intention isn't BS.
it's an opinion.

same thing.

I have to admit, that Photoshop image of Greg Cote is hilarious.

Turn out the lights, the party is over.

Dapper, the more that they keep writing Dwayne Wade off the more he comes through in the clutch huge like tonight.

Like I said the other day, "One of the most disrespected super stars in NBA history."

The guy is money. Has been since his first day in a Miami uniform.

I hope the Pacers win just to see Greg look like the sore loser that he is.

sorry to disappoint you, baby.
perhaps there's a boston.com link you can post; maybe something along the lines of this:

all we heard, (and "heard" being the operative word, because indiana loves to talk), all year was how home court was so important to indiana, etc, etc..
they spent the last 7 months trying to get it, only to see it evaporate in 48 minutes of basketball.
like i said MONTHS AGO, miami in 5-6 tops.

woody:

watching the game tonight with friends, i remarked how wade might have surpassed marino in my list of favorite hometown sports hero.
he is a class act, an amazing competitor, and in my opinion, the best 2 guard in the league the last 8 years, after kobe.
and the argument that he's better than kobe, (while i disagree SLIGHTLY), is valid, especially when you look at his shooting %, defense, assists, rebounds AND blocked shots especially.
he is a monster, and we are so blessed to have him.
and after this season he'll hopefully have 4 rings; just one under #24..

and here's to the "experts" that were trying to tell us months ago how wade was done:

wade scored 10 in the fourth (5 for 5 shooting) to close with 23, with five rebounds and five assists.

Wade, who finished 10 for 16 from the field, has now scored 28, 27 and 23 in his past three games,

it's such a shame wade is finished..

Right you are Dapper, BB has Wade already retired, I believe once this season ends in another Biscayne Dr. Parade Wade will be named MVP of the Finals....
And another thing, The upcoming Dolpin Season, Which do you see transpiring ???

Best Case: Bill Lazor does what Mike Sherman couldn’t do, igniting Miami’s offense and helping quarterback Ryan Tannehill take the next step. Behind a couple of come-from-behind wins early in the season, including the opener at home against New England, the Dolphins get on a roll. Mike Wallace blossoms in his second season catching passes from Tannehill. Knowshon Moreno provides a serious threat out of the backfield, rushing for 1,000 yards and posting another 500 receiving. And the rebuilt offensive line, behind free agent acquisition Branden Albert and rookie Ja’Wuan James, makes the bullying scandal a distant memory. But it’s not all about the offense in south Florida. Dion Jordan makes the leap in year two, teaming with Cameron Wake to form the best pass-rushing duo in football, which helps Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan vie for Pro Bowl nods at cornerback. Ultimately, it combines to help the Dolphins finish a surprising 11-5, good enough to win the AFC East. While a first-round loss at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers is a disappointment, it provides plenty of promise for the future.

Worst Case: It wasn’t all Sherman’s fault after all, as Tannehill continues to be hot and cold, struggling under Lazor’s tutelage, as well. After an 0-3 start, including home losses to the Patriots and Chiefs, Wallace – who has only four total catches at that point – throws a fit during practice and is suspended indefinitely. Forced to rely more on their running game, the Dolphins discover that Moreno is a three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust back and that James was a reach in the first round. On the other side of the ball, Jordan continues to struggle, forcing many to chirp that he’s a bust and should be traded, while Finnegan records more 15-yard flags than interceptions. By season’s end, it’s evident that Joe Philbin has no control of the situation; Stephen Ross fires him and the Dolphins make a run at, but miss out on, every big-name head coach available. They settle for Josh McDaniels, who defects from New England to Miami, and quickly makes a bad situation even worse

FZB, I believe I know what your Answer will be....

the dolphins will be fine, but you're wrong about moreno.
i think miller will be the starter, and moreno will back him up.
i think lazor will run the ball like he did in philly, where mcoy lead the league in attempts and yards, while jackson was #9th in yardage at receiving.
a more balanced attack will open up the passing game making next year career years for tanny, miller and wallace.

Anti....I will reserve judgement on clueless Joe until after the year...But I am encourage by the new coaching additions of the offensive coordinator, our new offensive line coach and our new LB's coach...according to Alex Marvez and Bill Polian those guys are very, very good coaches..

It all the depends on Joey...maybe he can suddenly develop and can bring out his inner Vince Lombardi..and prove me wrong..but let's not forget I also don't have a high opinion of our defensive coordinator Coyle..he sucks too.

By the way..Tanny will be much better with an offensive line and a running game.

On to the Heat, they put on their big boy pants on last night, its a series now..we'll see the next game, I'm not sold on Bosh or Chalmer's..so far they've both been total mierda.

Anyone who still counts out Wade is just a straight up fool...end of story...

Was great to see Cole shut down Stephenson in the 4th also. When it's time to clamp down, nobody does it like the Heat...bye bye to your home court Indy.

Also nice to see the "mass exodus" of fans leaving that arena early...

Big Baby! unless you are the one that put the offensive material up why are you so angry @ Greg Kote? You really are the big baby! I guess this coincides your own right wing politics!

Um ZB,I hate to break this to you but here it is:putting a bunch of words together by not using the space bar is not the definition of a run-on sentence....so,yeah...

Wow...

Dapper, although Wade is closer to the end than the beginning of his career, and you're correct in your evaluation that he ranks behind Kobe as #2 guards in the league since he came up, the one thing that he has that no one has is a better finals performance. His 4 straight games to win the Heat's first championship has no equal in the last 25 or 30 years and I include Jordan, Magic, Kobe, and Bird in that equation.

You can look it up.

Anti, just to add a little "something extra" to your worst case scenario; "Johnny Football goes off in Cleveland and becomes a star in the NFL and we passed and have Tannehill as our QB."

That little midget would have looked good in Aqua and Orange (BB, do we still wear aqua or is that puke blue that Jew Boy McCoy bought last year still considered aqua?) getting knocked out of the game, going to the sideline out cold only to be revived by a few hits of South Florida Nose Candy, only to come back late in the fourth and drive the Fish down the field for a game winning score against the focking Patsys on opening day.

"Wake up Woodcock, you dumb shit, you're talking in your sleep again." "Oh sorry, for a moment there I thought we finally had a star QB to replace Marino. Oh, well, back to watching the babes ride by on the Strand......."

say Todd..WTF dude?..so you are the nazi-grammar policy?

ok then.

Oye Woody..stop talking crap about my boy Tanny, leave him alone...

see this is what happens when you're trying to type while at work..

policy=police..sorry.

Yeah,that's it FZB...

:rolls eyes:

woody.. i agree on wade.
that 2006 finals was the most dominating performance i've ever seen.
go miami!

FZ, Tanny is like that old girlfriend that you had in high school, Ms. Reliable. Not too pretty, not too voluptuous, and one who put out on a regular basis Missionary Style, but nothing fancy, no anal, and two blow jobs a year, birthdays and Christmas.

Now, Johnny Football is like the cheerleader who was smoking hot and MIGHT go out with you ONCE in a while and for the few glorious nights that she did she did everything that the Ye Ol' Fishing Hole would never do.

You can go 8-8 with Tanny and maybe a couple more games than that but ya ain't going to the real dance with him.

Ryan Tannehill is not a top 25 quarterback in this league.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr

Yee of little faith..Tanny will be much improved with a better supporting cast, no even the great Tom Brady would have been able to do much with no running game or an offensive line in front.

You guys need to chill.

I see clueless Joe reinstated my boy Don Jones ...after suspending him for speaking his mind and exercising his right to free speech...I guess he's afraid of the gay mafia that seems to be running this country...what a puzz.

Give the Miami Heat credit.Every time the Heat has one foot on the banana peel and the other foot on elimination they regain their footing and win.The Pacers will not go away and the Spurs will probably beat the Heat in the finals but the Heat look like they will give a strong fight to keep their title.I will respond to the earlier blog of Anti Christ and give my 2014 Dolphin outlook. The Dolphins will beat the Pats in the season opener but lose to the Bills the next week.Tannehill will slowly improve along with the rebuilt Offensive Line but the Defense will be a problem with bad Linebackers and lame brained Don Jones at Safety because Finnegan is injured often. The Dolphins will be 6-6 but will jell to a 9-7 mark and a wild card playoff spot where they will get routed by Denver 34-10.

Mayberd, did you steal OC's Ouija Board, or are you really OC?

Mayberd...can you please post satuday's winning lotto numbers?... Gracias in advance.

Oh mayberd...a small little correction on your looksie into the future, lame brain Don Jones is not even a starter...just a special teamer, chit if he start's at safety we is in big trouble cuz.

yeah.. denver will put up 34 against our defense next year.. talk about clueless.. lol

But the Dolphins player emphasized that Lazor also “has a strong belief in the running game.” Under Mike Sherman last season, the Dolphins tried to pass on 65 percent of their offensive plays (we say tried, because that 65 percent includes sacks). The Eagles were more balanced, passing 53 percent of the time.

interesting.. i won't have to remind you guys, (especially tom), how right i was next year.
you'll all remember my COUNTLESS POSTS on this subject..

DWade appears to be back. Little tired of hearing about Miami fans. Who cares when people come and leave. Have another doughnut Chuck!

Broncos scored 49, 41, 37, 52, 51, 35, 33, 45, 28, 27, 31, 35, 51, 20, 37, and 34 points in 16 games last year.

Average of 37.8

Yes david, you are clueless.

every year is different, there is no guarantee that Denver will be able to duplicate the same offensive success...I say they won't, they lost Decker and Payton is a year older.

oh and they also lost Moreno..

Running = Winning? The Bills and Jets ran the ball 50% of the time last year.....

Yes david, you are clueless.

Headed to the Adirondacks for the long weekend boys. Talk at y'all when I get back. Flight delay Greg? More likely the good people of Indiana sending you a message.

SHUT UP everyone! the real annoying david of la usa the world the universe has spoken. EVERYONE knows only well intentioned progressives can talk about race. Right? Right David with the red hair & paste white skin? Amen.

you're all a bunch of morons; posting under stupid names and offering as much insight as a 5 year old.

just look at the run pass ratio of the teams that won, "idiot", then take my ---- out of your ----..

and yeah, FZB, let's take what denver did last year, and make that what they'll do THIS year.
are these people THAT stupid? lol

and finally:

SHUT UP everyone! the real annoying david of la usa the world the universe has spoken. EVERYONE knows only well intentioned progressives can talk about race. Right? Right David with the red hair & paste white skin? Amen.

Posted by: Al Sharptons hair |

you know nothing about race, my hair color or anything else.
you'd rather hide behind some false and not funny name thinking you're cute.
try women; they're fun, and you won't be as angry, white boy..
