Mon pm 4-14: Health & Trust: The Dwyane Wade Poll. Vote now!; plus Heat squander seed lead, Stephen Colbert, Brianne on top & more

1) It is MONDAY, APRIL 14. New blogpost coming later today! 2) Click on Random Evidence for our latest Sunday notes-column package, leading with the end (for now) of the Heat drama, Waiting on Dwyane. 3) In The Previous Blogpost (ITPB): Heat biggest-challenger poll, Dolphins' preseason schedule and draft projection, U.S. World Cup video, Kaepernick police report, Hank Aaron & more. 4) Follow on Twitter @gregcote.

Wade shines but Heat fall: The good news: Dwyane Wade returns from nine games' absence and scores 24 points in 23 minutes on 10-for-14 shooting. The bad news: Heat fall at Atlanta, 98-85, to fall into tie with Indiana for No. 1 Eastern seed, both teams at 54-26. Then Pacers beat Oklahoma City and now can clinch the top seed by winning at Philadelphia Wednesday. Heat end at Washington tonight and vs. Philadelphia Wednesday. No. 1 seed will open playoffs vs. Atlanta and No. 2 seed likely against Charlotte.

1aa1adwadesuitTHE DWYANE WADE POLL: ON HEALTH AND TRUST: The Heat's bid for a three-peat is less about No. 1 (the conference seed) than it is about No. 3 (Dwyane Wade's health). Wade missed a ninth consecutive game with a strained left hamstring before finally returning to action last night. For the season he has missed 28 games with various ailments. The goal is to have him fit and ready for the playoffs but nobody can be sure of that. In posing this poll question I ask what you sense Wade's realistic postseason contribution may be. How much do you trust his body to be healthy for the long playoff run? Not what you hope he does, but what you honestly expect. Vote and say why.

LEBRON'S 36 POWERS HEAT OVER PACERS IN DUEL FOR NO. 1 SEED: Regular season nights do not get 1aa1aheatpacersmuch better than this one as the Heat hosted Indiana and won 98-86 Friday night to seize control of the NBA's No. 1 Eastern Conference playoff seeding. If you think home court in a series Game 7 is important, then those are the stakes. The tired Pacers were sufficiently rested and deploy their full starting lineup, but Roy Hibbert -- a 7-2 slug against the rest of the league but usually Superman against the Heat -- was a nonfactor against Udonis Haslem's defense. Dwyane Wade once again out with a strained left hamstring, but LeBron James' 36 points made up for it. "Playoff atmosphere" gets thrown around too casually, but we came close to that last night. My column off the game focused on how all the chatter about the top seed has diminished how Wade's health remains a far greater factor for Miami in the playoffs. Click on It's About No. 3, Not No. 1 to read.

Poll result: Pacers still biggest East threat to Heat: We asked in the last blogpost and 53.5 percent called Indiana the greatest challenge to Miami in the Eastern Conference, followed by Brooklyn (31.8%), Chicago (11.6%) and "other" (3.1%). The same poll in September, before the season, had it Indiana 54.7, Chicago 33.9, Brooklyn 8.9 and other 2.5, so, in effect, the Nets and Bulls just swapped roles.

COLBERT REPLACING LETTERMAN, BUT NOT THAT COLBERT: Stephen Colbert is replacing David 1aa1acolbertLetterman next year, but it won't be as his character (pictured) from The Stephen Colbert Report on Comedy Central. This is a risk, in that his lovable mock-right wing zealot character his how most know Colbert. But those who know him best and know his talents best, like Jon Stewart, say he'll be terrific as himself. He'd better be, because his competition, Jimmy Fallon, is kicking some serious late-night a--.

DOLPHINS SIGN ANOTHER WIDE RECIVER. HMM...: Dolphins sign ex-Titans wide receiver Damian Williams, 25, to a one-year deal. Interesting, because receiver is not a position where depth or another body would seem to be needed. Could be a hedge, with Brian Hartline coming back from an injury. Or, maybe we should resurrect that recurring rumor about the team shopping around Mike Wallace?

(WARNING. THIS ITEM MAY INVOLVE CLEAVAGE). BRIANNE VOTED TOP DOLPHINS CHEERLEADER!:
We here at Greg Cote's Random Evidence blog couldn't be prouder of Brianne Herndon, whose photo at right was voted No.

1aa1abrianne21 most popular in a Dolphins Cheerleaders March-Madness style bracket on their website. (Who knew cheerleaders had websites!) Voters consisted entirely of middle-aged married men. This contest, along with the cheerleaders' annual swimsuit calendar, are perfect examples of these brave young women fighting back against the sexist objectification of women by determining that the objectification will be on their terms, dammit! Because 1aa1abrianne3when you think about it, the one freedom perhaps most

worth fighting for is Brianne's freedom to wear the bikini of her choice. She is pictured top left in her official cheer attire, and bottom left lounging languidly on a sunny beach, daydreaming perhaps of a really big Dolphins field goal. God Bless America!

Hate Letterman and Colbert is even worse. Another good reason to continue not to watching CBS late nite TV.

If I were Riley (the guy whow actually runs this team), I would sit our starters against the Pacers just like the Pacers did with the Bucks ("you guyz are our Bucks"). It is irrelevant who has home court and being the 2 seed is actually a less painful route to the finals. The goal is get to the finals in one piece, not home court advantage in eastern conference finals. BTW - Lebron and Bosh need some big time rest.

Cote, you sir, are alright in my book as of today. "Que clase de monumento!" If she cooks the way she looks I would even eat the leftovers!

And talking about beautiful, check out these pictures of the newly restored Miami High. Simply an amazing restoration the old girl didn't look this good when she was brand new. Kinda brings a tear to ol' Woodcock's eye.

Damian Williams a good depth signing because well you know it's a passing league. Seriously though he might be a better KR/ PR than Thigpen or at least give him some competition. Go 5 wide baby line em up and send em all! Guy was pretty good at USC he's had crap QB's since he was drafted by the Titans. A little surprised Titans let him go for so cheap he really hasn't done much in his career but potential seems there.

He's an acorn!

OYE BB.. I think my new adopted son Hickey is getting ready to trade Hartline..

Philbin would never allow it.

He knows a bad ass white boy when he sees one.

Relax FZB Hartline is not going anywhere. Brandon Gibson is the one who should be worried.

The Masters tournament is shaping up to be a major snooze event for the weekend. No Tiger, no Phil and a mediocre leader board.

Top 9 right now

Bubba Watson -7 -4 F 69 68 Bill Haas -4 E 8 68 -
Jimmy Walker -3 -1 9 70
Thomas Bjorn -3 -4 F 73 68 Fred Couples -3 -2 10 71 - Jonas Blixt -3 -1 15 70 - John Senden -3 -3 14 72 - Mike Weir -2 -3 12 73 - Kevin Stadler -2 E 16 70 -

BORING.

I have been watching great round by Bubba today and yesterday he missed a 3 footer on 18 for par tough. I don't really like his mannerisms on course but people seem to love him. If Freddie contends it will be tv gold everyone loves Fred how can you not. Weir decent story past winner course manager. People like son of Jay and Craig as well. Some potentially good storylines unless Bubba runs away with it.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

unless Fred Couples stays in contention. Absent that zzzzz time

Jimmy Walker is playing dynamite golf.

well I DO think we have three receivers that are the same..

Hartline (best trade value), Gibson and Matthews..and since we need a bigger more physical possession receiver like the kid Evans from A and M (who would be the perfect compliment to Wallace) then I think we should most definitely trade Hartline.

and I think is going to happen specially if we can land Evans.

Crap bogie for Freddie.

I don't think so FZB. Move Hartline to the slot which is where he belongs. What a WR corps, Hartline, Wallace and Evans. We can have the audacity to hope for such a group, but it ain't happeing.

Hartline is not quick enough to play in the slot..

If he's quick enough to play outside he's quick enough to play there.

i doubt seriously we're trading any receivers.
we're loaded at that position, and it's probably the least issue of concern.
as for a "bigger more physical" possession receiver, welker is the best i've seen in a long time and HE isn't that big..

They'll probably cut Gibson to save a few mil.

I rather they trade Hartline..he sucks.

So I suck?

Si...

Mouning guys ...well the Heat are in control for the best record in the east if they win the last three games, if its me I rather rest all the starters this last three games...get the guys ready for the playoffs, playoffs?...plus its not a guarantee that the Pacers will make it to the east finals.

And the Marlins?... Hhmm, well after a promising start the wheels have come off..

Fan touches Curtis Granderson

"He touched me and then I turned around," Granderson said following New York's 5-4 loss in 11 innings. "He was like. 'No, I didn't mean to.' I was, 'Hey, just don't touch me.' And that was it.

"Say whatever you want to say. Boo, cheer, clap, cheer for your team, cheer for the other team. But just don't physically touch the players."

Curtis Granderson wins the dumb ass of the day award. What a lame ass prima donna. "just don't touch me"

FZB stop with the Ireland talent evaluations on players.

Gezz BB...U upset that I'm ragging on your boy Hartline?

I just don't get why you're ragging on him he's a good player most would agree I think. I don't see any point in saying he isn't good or needs to be traded there are more important team needs to evaluate.

BB, youve got to recognize that FZB is no longer a card carrying 100% Dolfan. His heart has been tainted by so many years of dissapointment. We shouldn't blame him, really. Only TRUE Dolphins fans are able to make their observations on points they disagree with, but manage to move on rallying for good or worse behind the team, regardless of COACH, the OWNER, and whomever is part of our team.

FZB, you are hereby labeled a second-tired Dolphins fan. You're not worthy!

OC f*** the Dolphins. I'm sitting in the same tier as Bob Uecker...

I guess Dukito and me are now in the Dolphin fan's doggie house , not to worry lads , come the regular season I'll be front and center rooting for my Dolphins ...no matter how bad they are being out coached or how inept our owner is...

BB ...what the Dolphins need is a little physicality at the WR position..neither Wallace or Hartline can fight for the ball and since Wallace is un tradable because of his contract then they should look to trade Hartline..nothing personal against him because he is a good player but WR's are a dime a dozen and we already have to capable replacements on the roster.

A big physical number 1 receiver will bring more balance to the offense ( along with a running game) and allow Wallace to become a true deep target and big play guy...

FZB you have been listening to me. Miami does need a real #1 WR. Neither Hartline or Wallace is much good in a crowd. Sadly our former GM traded away a real #1 WR for freaking nothing.

On the other hand, I could not disagree more that WRs are a dime a dozen. Hartline is a very good player, Wallace is too (just not worth anywhere near the $60mil Ireland gave him). Players like Hartline and Wallace are hard to come by. Hartline and Wallace packaged with a WR who can catch the ball when he's not really open and Miami would have one of the most formidable WR corps in the league.

OC is right, you are now a 2nd tier Dolfan. It does seem you are rooting more for Philbin to fail than the Dolphins to succeed.

Nope...Can't root against my Dolphins in any shape or form..and my issue with Philbin is well documented ...I just don't think he is HC material based on what he failed to do last year .

Ok...draft talk...put this little rumor in the " I don't believe dept"...but according to my NFL amigo there have been rumors/ speculation that if Aaron Donald ( the undersize DT from Pittsburgh )is sitting at 19th the Dolphins will jump on him , the reason is while he is undersize at DT he would be a pro bowl type player at DE and the second part of that equation is it would then allow the Dolphins to trade Cameron Wake to a contender for probably a second rounder, now C Wake while still a productive player he is now age 32 and on the downside of his career...

Again don't shoot the messanger...just what I was told...what do you guys think?

I sort of get it FZ invested a lot of time and energy into defending his son he is heartbroken and still needs time. I think we should just give him space for now. Well said OC that is me able to critique but once the games start it's foam finger time.

So I'm still in my denial stage?....all righty then.

They are not taking an undersized DT from Pittsburg, from Florida, not even from Mars. That's the sort of crap-thought-process Ireland would do. Best advise your "scout" amigo to take off his Ireland T-shirt, cause there's a new sheriff in town!

Hickey will react accordingly to what happens ahead of #19. Houston, Cleveland, and Oakland all need a QB. If there's a run on that position by all of those teams it will almost certanly leave one or two of the guys high on their priority list to be available when their turn comes up. If that does not happen, then Mosley, Lewan, Martin will all be long gone. At which point, Hickey would be wise to trade his #19 to Cleveland's #26 (assuming the Browns passes on a QB at #4).

Mosley or Ebron. If both gone, trade for more picks or better position in round two.

My scout is E. F. Hutton, and he says...๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘‚

Now, if I could only figure out how to turn my name into OC ๐Ÿฌ

Hey FZB thanks for the word from your scout amigo. Thankfully he is right about as often as you are.

Dolphins are taking one of the following positions in the draft. OT, LB, WR or TE and I really think it depends on who is on the board when Miami drafts.

Then we have :

Greg C๐Ÿ–te

Big ๐Ÿผ

F๐Ÿ’คB

Jimb๐Ÿ‘ฎ

duk๐Ÿ’Šy

t๐ŸŽฏm

the sha๐Ÿ‘คow knows

W๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃdc๐Ÿ’ฃck

Who am I missing?

You guys do seem to have a lot of confidence for a guy that has never been a GM, someone that was not even considered for the position by the team he spend 18 yrs with and a guy that was the 8th choice for the position after a bunch of very well qualified candidates either turned down the position or even the chance to interview for the position..

Chit...that's a lot of " positions " I just mentioned..hehe

OC...that's pretty cool dude..you forgot David.

Here's the bottom line...The jury is still out on Hickey ...he is either our new Joe Thomas ( which we all hope he is) or our new Dave Wanstead and I suspect he will fall somewhere in between..

Here's the other thing..he's got clueless Joe and the back stabbing bitch to worry and since he's third on the current pecking order he's got a lot on his plate in between making the right decisions and not mortgaging our future plus our inept owner only gave him a two year contract with a club option for the third year...not exactly a ringing endorsement..

Every GM needs 4 years...this guy may only last two....

Don't you ever get tired of repeating the same shit and over every single day of your life?

Well I tell ya...we do have a lot of people on this blog that are sort of ...you know, they forget things easely..know what I mean?

"Players like Hartline and Wallace are hard to come by. Hartline and Wallace packaged with a WR who can catch the ball when he's not really open and Miami would have one of the most formidable WR corps in the league."
you're HALF right, tom. (better than usual).

a BALANCED OFFENSE that runs the ball, AND targets wallace deep consistently, (unlike the 10 total times it did last year), moves wallace to the slot, (instead of always lining him up on the right, THAT would give us one of the top receiving corps in the league.

what's so perfect about all of this is the fact we have lazor; a guy that understands committing to running the ball. a guy who's back last year led the league in attempts and yards.
(his numbers were similar to miller's until given the full opportunity).
and you know what happened?
this guy's receiver, deSean jackson, WAS 2ND THE LEAGUE in receptions over 20 yards.
coincidence?
no.
that's what happens when you run the Fing ball.

lazor ran philly's offense last year the way WE needed to run ours.
and he will next year.
next year will be career years for both miller and wallace.
you heard it here 1st..

one MORE prediction:
rather than crediting the balanced offense and movement on that side of the ball, our success will be attributed to IRELAND not being here!

Well the Marlins just finished their recent road trip 0-6... Yikes!

And Tommy-Son...my NFL scout amigo didn't say that the Dolphins where going to pick the kid from Pittsburgh or they were going to trade C Wake...just things some people are saying/hearing..Nothing more than a rumor...

OC, Love the lil dolphin, I've incorporated it to the A.C brand.....

AC, my lawyers will be contacting you for infringement.

Hahahahaha !... I guess Aldon Smith will never be compared to a "brain surgeon " , I mean yelling the word " bomb" at a crowed airport ain't exactly too smart..

Moron...

Hey OC...when can I get my Dolphin fan-card back?... When I stop calling our HC clueless?..or Aponte the back stabbing bitch?..or our owner inept?...

The draft is right around the corner. O Line - O Line - MLB - mo O Line.

OC, in town (briefly) looking at neighborhoods, houses. Tell me about Del Valle. Got my schedule for the rest of 2014.... Weekends are shot. Most likely I'll be working grave yards Sat & Sun nights. Save your $, skip the sports bar & catch the Fins game at my place. NFL Sunday ticket.

Jimbo, nice weather, eh!? Del Valle has a correctional facility just east of the airport, so I'm guessing that's the connection. Personally, I would opt out of most areas east of i35. I just finished having breakfast at Whole Foods downtown and was planning to go see Draft Day at Barton at 11:30, bot if you have time, I would love buying you a coffee at a Starbucks. Let me know.

fellers,

the draft this year will be wilder (read unpredictable) as the NCAA baketball tournament. there are so many teams with over lapping needs-especially at QB- that draft night will be especially wild. for example, is there anyone out there who can predict which team will take from among bortles, manziel and teddy bridgewater? all are terrific and who knows which will go #1. to these old eyes, i see manziel and bridgewater going ahead of blake bortles. it was alabama that couldn't stop louisville in the bowl game wasn't it? whichever bowl game it was, teddy was rght on in his passing and i believe he was allowed to call the plays. manziel is uncanny in his ability to escape the pocket when needed and has a very decent arm to go with his escapability. the wideout from a&m had the bonus of catching passes from johnny m and i believe it is a known fact that taking passcatchers in the first round is realy pushing your luck.

Shadow in the past taking a WR in first Round was more risky but recently it seems like a better play. Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones come to mind immediately but it would have to be can't miss kid. Really it's not unlike taking any other position they all have potential to be busts. If I recall Irving Fryar was taken in 1st Round back in the day he was worth it in the long run. To me it' Manziel, Bortles then Bridgewater Teddy had a lousy pro day I might just pass on him unless he drops.
