Golden staying, recommits to UM!; plus what-if-he'd left poll, FIU's T.Y. shines, NFL playoffs, UM's near-shocker, King Orange & more

1aa1boydobOrange Bowl: Winner? Clemson. Losers? MVP voters: Tigers' 40-35 victory over Urban Meyer's Buckeyes gave the OB a memorable night. Big losers were my media brethren who chose game's MVP and decided Tajh Boyd's 497 yards of offense and six TDs were insufficient. Click on The Constant for my column from the game. It's an homage to the Orange Bowl on its 80th anniversary, in the unabashed civic-minded manner of my mentor, the great Edwin Pope.

HOW TO FEEL IF AL GOLDEN HAD BOLTED CANES FOR PENN STATE?: BULLETIN: AL GOLDEN ANNOUNCES HE IS STAYING AT MIAMI. Original post: This is weird. Al Golden toughs through two-plus years of NCAA probing and self-imposed bowl bans, gets past all of that darkness to finally see the light ... and now he might leave!? Well, they say timing is everything. And they're right. I believe Golden 1aa1algpswhen he brags what a great job UM is. I also believe that his alma mater, Penn State, is one of the very few jobs he'd leave for, and now that job is suddenly vacant, and now ESPN reports Golden is one of three "preferred" finalists and will be interviewed. Some less credible reports already have him being offered the job. (I wish I had a buck for every casual media use of the phrase "sources say," the ultimate unnamed shield to insulate anyone from anything. You know what my sources say? My sources say their sources are full of s--- or maybe were drunk). Anyway, I'd not be surprised if Golden left or stayed, although I'd be mildly surprised he'd want to take on more NCAA probation in Happy Valley (stemming from the Jerry Sandusky scandal) after just getting past all that. Let's wait and see what happens, sources say. Meantime, what in our new poll best reflects the way you'd feel if Golden giddy-upped to Penn State? Vote, say why and check back to monitor evolving results.

FIU'S T.Y. HILTON SHINES; NOW BENGALS ROAR, PACKERS IN UPSET AS NFL PLAYOFFS CONTINUE: Today make it Bengals over Chargers 21-17 and Packers over 49ers 27-23 as first round of King Sport playoffs wrap up. Oddly, I feel more confident in these picks (even Green Bay) than I did in Saturday's. We we were 1-1 overall but 0-2 against the spread yesterday. Got lucky with Indy's comeback but did not see N'Awlins winning. How 'bout T.Y. Hilton! Quietly, the little rocket out of FIU has had a terrific two-year start to his NFL career. My original post on Saturday's games: Make it Colts, 24-20, over Chiefs, then Eagles, 31-27, over Saints. It isn't that I have that much faith in Indy or Philly. It's more the flaws in Kansas City and New Orleans. KC is 2-5 since its 9-0 start and not playing very good defense lately. N'Awlins and Drew Brees are hugely less potent on the road.

CANES NEAR-SHOCKER AT SYRACUSE: Miami nearly stunned No. 2 Syracuse up there yesterday, losing 49-44. UM men are now 8-6, not great but pretty solid considering all the players gone from last year's ACC championship team. Jim Larranaga was national coach of the year last season. His might be an even better coaching job this season if he can see this depleted roster into even the NIT.

Hope he stays but needs to do what is best for him and his family.

If he leaves would go after Chud.

UM has raised Al Golden's salary every time a job opening has come up but unfortunately this time it's not about money.

Tough decision for Al Golden, hope he does what's best for his family.

Like I said, if Golden leaves It'll be disappointing but not surprising since Penn State can pay him a lot more and it is his Alma matter so you can't blame the guy.

the good thing is there will be quite a few good candidates to choose from..with Bob Petrino right at the top of my own personal list...but I hope the guy stays.

Schiano
B Davis
Rob Chudzinski
Mario Cristobal

how about the guy from Wake Forest who is also a candidate for the Penn State job?..forgot the guys name.

Kiffin?..hehe, just kidding there guys.

I wish Al Golden all the best if he decides to leave the U. IMHO coach is not a X's and O's coach and needs top assisitants to be successful regardless what school he's at. Should he stay he will need to get rid of the offense and defensive coordinators or the Canes will never be in the hunt for a BCS championship.

Most agree that, despite all the horrid allegations and repercussions, the Penn State head coaching job is still a better gig than the UMiami head coaching job. That is pretty remarkable and frankly confirms that UMiami is no longer relevant in college football.

UCF has now officially taken over as the state's third most relevant program. Just think that five or six years ago, UCF was today's FIU/FAU. It is just a matter of time until FIU starts flexing its muscle and makes use of the infinite resources that come with being the nation's seventh largest university, like UCF in the not too distant past. Those that disagree still think UMiami's demise is Larry Coker's fault instead of realizing college football is a numbers game. It's a business that rides on the resources that come with a large public university. Want further proof? Just take a look at today's top programs, the vast majority are large, public institutions. You'll start seeing more of the smaller and/or private institutions much further down the list.

I know reality stings for you canes fans, but just take comfort in yesterday. You had a great run!

Golden certainly may bolt, but it won't be because of money for himself. He'll leave for 3 reasons. !) He knows he'll have a worse regular season record next year because of the schedule and because he'll have to play so many young players. His stock will fall because of the record next year and he sees this as his best chance to grab a big job while his stock is still high. 2) UM does not provide enough $$ for him to get high quality assistants, which he knows he badly needs. 3) It's his alma mater and close to New Jersey, his home. Only his wife can convince him to stay if he decides he may want to leave.

This delusional idiot is so in love with UM that he's actually jumped on the UCF bandwagon!!!

Hey moron, your diploma mill commuter school has 50,000 students and none of them want to make the drive from home to watch your games. FIU's average attendance this year was 15,000 people watching that garbage team go 1-11.

You're beyond sad Quijote, get a life outside of swinging at windmills chump.

The UM glory days are long past. We can blame Coker and Dee for accelerating its demise, but it was inevitable.

College ball is all about facilities which means money and the states schools with their huge alumni base and massive tax payer sourced state funding rule the money pile.

doroteo - You are so right. It's amazing UM has won 5 Titles as a small, private institution. Everything has to fall right into place for UM to compete with the big boys anymore.

Petrino

Petrino is a turd. Bring back Butch, Chud as OC, nearly anyone except D'Onofrio as DC.

doroteo, actually UM has a new athletic facility that is bigger and cost more than Alabama's new facilities.

Schwartz Center - 34,000 square feet, $15M.

http://www.miami.edu/index.php/news/releases/um_dedicates_schwartz_center_for_athletic_excellence/

Mal M. Moore - 30,000 square feet, $9M.

http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2013/08/alabama_players_facility.html

Some of you people are just dumb, stupid, or both. Lol, Miami's decline has to do with $$. The administration needs to invest on a quality coach and assistants. This time around there are alot of choices. This team like in the late 90's is not a thing of the past. You hire someone competent that can teach, coach, and recruit and UM will be back to competing for ships.

I want Golden to take that damn job already. Please take it and take Dono with you. You don't want make upgrades then leave. No tears shed here, I am greatful for you making it a more desireable destination.

If you choose to stay, thank you but fire that incompetent friend of yours. Help him get another job. Hire a DC with some balls

Marco...you said some of the people here are just dumb, stupid or both...now you are acting like you are dumb or stupid or both for wanting Golden to leave.

Clueless is what you are.

By the way...we still don't know if DoNofrio is a good or bad defensive coordinator, the guy has no talent on the defensive side of the ball...he needs to be given a chance with a full deck.

Most of you already forgot how bad it got for Golden and his coaches on recruiting , this is the first year without the NCAA hanging over the program...I hope Golden stays.

Agree with UM86. I am in between disappointed and ok in the poll. Hate to loose someone like Golden who has clearly righted the ship.

Really hope Al stays. Understands if he doesn't.

Only knock IF he leaves—how over-the-top he's been with his intent to stick around, clean up the mess, bust his ass until he gets it right, etc.

Very big on accountability, character, his 8 Pillars of Success, etc. and to preach it and not practice it would be very disheartening.

Penn State may be "dream job", but is the timing right? If Al really "trusts the process", rushing back to Happy Valley just because the gig is again open, despite probation and bowl bans up there ... again, seems to go against his core values.

We'll see. I think he stays, but who knows.

Petrino may be a turd but he's a winning turd

Can't blame Golden if he leaves. He's a PSU guy.

Perfect example of what's wrong with people. Who says just because you're making more money you'll be happier? If you hate your job doesn't matter how much you're making you will still be miserable. I understand going back to your alma mater but the truth is he's from Jersey not nowheresville PA. I would be disappointed but the truth is he hasn't proven he's a great coach. Good recruiter? Yes. But i haven't seen in game adjustments that says he'll out coach the guy on the other sideline and is worth a couple of extra wins a year.

Golden won't go.

Neither Chud nor Butch will ever be rehired. Petrino will never be hired at UM, nor the UCF coach.

Even with next years' schedule we'll be tough.

I think if anything we need to get Ken Dorsey to coach up the QB position, this position has been a gleaming disaster for the last 3 or 4 years. I really need Golden to stay, because he putting together the talent to bring relavance back to the U. Ya'll forget we could have went to the ACC championship last year if the administration didn't cave to allegations before anything could have been proven. Golden's a good coach

John you're probably right about Butch and Petrino. But Petrino would be a great hire. I know Shalala has balls so who knows maybe.

If I hear or read that cunt's name again I'm going to get sick.

The only problem with Golden leaving is how it would affect the new class of recruits coming in!!Golden has put together a top ten class and I want ALL those kids at he U !!!!!!!!

Oh wow, just saw this story, it would be very sad if Coach Golden moved on but he has done a tremendous job at the University and I know whoever Donna Shalala and Blake James decide on to replace him would do a great job!

Hope he does what is best for him and his family, and I think we should all wish him the best. Good guy who seems to care.

For those saying Miami fans suck, you are just clueless about the school and town. A private school with a pro stadium 30 miles away...Not too many college teams in a pro city fill pro stadiums weekly. College towns different story. We also don't have 60,000 students in what amounts to a paper mill for diplomas and boat load of boosters/supporters.

Hope he stays but if not, I thought Chud did a nice job with the crap he was dealt in Cleveland.

Butch as head coach. Chud as offensive coordinator. Oregon as defensive coordinator (some of you may be too young to remember Coach O at UM, but he did a heckuva job.). That staff will make UM relevant and attract five star recruits.

Golden is out, he's informing players as we speak.

Good luck to Golden if he goes (if his wife is all in I mean). He s got the opportunity to go back home to his roots at Penn State where he was a Captain on his team and obviously trusted by Paterno when he played and after he played. He d sure do great as a recruiter because he discovered all the gold mine high schools in South Florida and their HS Coaches during his 3 years here.However....after going through the NCAA mess I m not OVERLY convinced that he would like to necessarrily rush back up there either. He still faces loss of Bowl games and sanctions so it s not just as easy as outsiders may think. It s a coin toss to me but the best news is D Onofrio will be taken with him on the same aisle seats in the plane.THAT is almost worth celebrating about alone.D Onofrio hasn t done diddly and has little cred with 2/3 of Cane fans.....despite a few who think he s ok.Come on Blake...get out in the Community and start putting a list together.....to be ready to jump-start your Search Community candidates for the U.(If need be.)GO CANES.

i hope he stays, but if not i think jay's post is the best:
"Butch as head coach. Chud as offensive coordinator. Oregon as defensive coordinator (some of you may be too young to remember Coach O at UM, but he did a heckuva job.). That staff will make UM relevant and attract five star recruits."

Watching Al Golden and his staff coach on gameday was frustrating. They were consistently outschemed. Credit goes to him standing by us when we were under a cloud .
Golden was clueless about his D coordinator and that was his undoing. He would have had to make marked changes this year to his defense and there were no guarantees he would progress here.
Its a win win for both sides.

If anyone was wondering how bowls report such large attendances, yet stadiums look half full and well short even in major bowls, I think I found the answer. Each school is required to buy tickets. Almost no one can sell half of them Yet, it still counts toward attendance. Supposedly, Ohio State sold 7000 out of 17,500. Texas A&M - Duke tickets selling as low as $9.99 day before game. Another game was selling for one cent. Some bowls gave out thousands for free. I believe not one game has sold out yet. Closest being Rose Bowl's reported att of 90,000 as Stanford did sell theirs out. UCF and Baylor were horrific in sales. Either the school or conference takes the hit, while the bowls get their guaranteed income.

The numerous bowl games that are out there now has obscured bowl game relevance. It's time to modernize to a real playoff system. Next year,3 games will matter.

Pont taken Steve but his "undoing" seems to have led to a million dollar raise and his dream job.

Butch as HC and Chud as OC is great with me.Oregon I vaguely remember and can t recall how good he was.Anyway.....I m sure Blake and Sha la la will get an A list together quickly. Will an assistant come from the Pros or a young up and comer in the College ranks as the HC candidate they go after?Golden was decent but had the NCAA sanctions stunt his and his team s developement.Of course he has hurt himself lately by defending everything D Onofrio does on Defense with the team.(Transalates to "not much".)So...good luck to Golden if he and his family move on.Canes will do the same and hopefully this time....they ll get a HC who brings in a COMPETENT Defensive Coordinator.

FZB, bla bla boa the same recycled names. Butch would take it, but I'm not sure he'd get a staff, for fear of more allegations and such. Yet, if Jim Tressel's show cause was up, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He lied tom protect his players, not weaseling out on his obligations to his current gig. All coaches lie, just for different reasons.
Please, Cristobal? What has he done? Other than being hired as an assistant at one school, and quitting days later to go to another.

You are usually (other than your love of Fins GM Ireland) a pretty good resource of common sense commentary. But any of these guys, if hired will cost UM 74% of this years recruiting class.
The hire has to have IMPACT, but not irrational, not the usual Gruden, Cohwer crap.

FWIW, James franklin is twice the coach Al is, and that includes franklin's staff. If PSU was smart, they'd interview HIM first.

Ha, I meant 75%, but who's counting? LOL

Especially agree regarding the minimalist salaries paid to UM assistants, though in THIS case they're barely worth it.
This has ALWAYS been the case.

Quijote and doreto need to go back to watching women's tennis. The Canes have the THIRD ranked recruiting class in the ENTIRE NATION coming in. Your ridiculous posts about the Canes demise and the big money Universities is a crock of crap. Sorry I wasted 30 seconds of my life having to read that idiocy.

Interesting that just a short two years ago Indy went 2-14 and just last year KC went the same 2-14. It's also interesting that Philadelphia went 4-12 last year yet they are playing tonight in the NFC wild card game. Carolina went 7-9 last year yet they won their division this year going 12-4.

What do all of these teams have in commmon? Each of these teams changed coaches and/or general managers in the past ONE (KC, Philly and Carolina) or TWO (Indy) years.

Ireland has had plenty of time to turn Miami around. It's time for a change. Maybe Penn State will hire him.

MDSH, the OTHER constant is excellent (overall) AB play significantly better than Tannehill's.

I meant QB play, damn my fingers! LOL

Maybe it's just that Ireland is overqualified for anything but working in fast food joints...

Why you dissing on fast food workers dukester?

We figured out that Ireland would screw up a Whopper if he were spotted the buns, burger, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, mayo and ketchup.

Ha Ha sorry guys in fast food industry. I've had my share of s*** restaurant work too. It's not that I hate Ireland I just feel better when he's not around...

Your apology is accepted. Let's not make that mistake again

Great and I'll have two quarter pounders, two large fries and two vanilla shakes Pogo...

http://weirdtalesmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/1135.jpg

We can use Ireland in the sewer. He can play the part of the human excrement.

Norton why are you dissing in me like that?

Human Excrement is right Norton. You owe it an apology...

Well I want to know what goldens buyout clause is if he leaves. I want to know how much pen state is going to pay the U.
By god if texas is going to pay pen state for obrien to pay for golden then pen state can pay us for our next coach

Since the Herald won't mention it, congrats to FIU's TY Hilton shattering the franchise record in receiving yards. 225 receiving yards and critical in Colts win

Huh what a comeback Alice. Imagine if the Colts had Ireland and Philbin what they might just accomplish...

You and your sarcasm. Frankly I don't know what you're talking about Ralph Cramden. Coach Philbin seems like a nice enough sort but I will say your right about Human Excrement. Oh I'm sorry Human Excrement, I meant Jeff Ireland...

I served with Human Excrement. I knew Human Excrement. Human Excremet was a friend of mine. Mr Ireland, you're no Human Excrement

hurry up and LEAVE..Take your lover SHITIOnofrio with you!! I dont see what everybody sees in this guy..Other than being a nice guy and a great used car salesman ala Oba....his coaching record has nothing to show for in Ws and he sucks at coaching..yet its a big deal!! Bring Back BUTCH!! or CHUD

I hope what Jay posted could happen, but I would be satisfied with just Butch, he has now made it known he wants to return. Sha-la-la should push for him and help atone for us leaving the OB.

Oh wow, just saw this story, it would be very sad if Coach Golden moved on but he has done a tremendous job at the University and I know whoever Donna Shalala and Blake James decide on to replace him would do a great job!

Posted by: Thanks Al! | January 04, 2014 at 04:04 PM

Welcome back, Potter, you sad sack.

FZB,brother,I hope you are joking about UM hiring Bobby Petrino. He is a dirt bag to the max. Walked out on the Falcons with three games left on their schedule to take the HC job at Arkansas.Got busted cheating on his wife when he wrecked his Harley (at least he has good taste in bikes)with his mistress on it. A real lieing low life. The rest of your list is great, and I like Schiano. He has been here and he did a fantastic job at Rutgers and would have done a good job for the Bucs if he had a QB.

QUIJOTE is beyond delusional...he's been whacked for a long time. He has these visions of grandeur for FIU football, which WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

By the way, FIU's average attendance this year was NOWHERE NEAR 15,000. I actually went to a game...the ANNOUNCED CROWD was 12,000 but if there were 7,000 people there, I would eat my hat!

QUIJOTE: get a life, will you? You've been on this FIU "Panthers on the rise" thing forever...I've told you, as long as there is UM IN MIAMI, FIU will never overtake the Canes...PERIOD. You may get some leftover recruits after FSU, UF, etc., take theirs, but NEVER WILL FIU "FLEX THEIR MUSCLE" (what muscle, a win in the Little Cesar's Bowl a few years back?)....you need help.

Harleyray,

I hear you bro on the Petrino deal, here"s my reasoning on it..the guy is a bit shady with the Falcons and at Arkansas but the guy has fallen from grace and humiliated and hungry, he would love a second chance ...and he is a heck of a coach.

But Schiano or Butch will be just fine also...specially Schiano.

Dan Lebatard writes today

How is it possible that general manager Jeff Ireland, one of the most unpopular figures in the history of South Florida sports, still has his job?

After six years of mess?

After getting coach Joe Philbin a bunch of players Philbin didn’t use, Ireland’s 2013 draft picks playing fewer downs than any draft class in the league?

After that staining Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin absurdity that Philbin handled a lot better than Ireland as Ireland hid silently in the shadows?

Are these people idiot losers?

Where’s the leadership here?

These are the angry questions the raging customers are asking today, but there is an answer as to how all this is is possible. And, no, it isn't because they are incompetent fools. It is because they are hopelessly human.

**************

Dan you were on a roll until you said, "And, no, it isn't because they are incompetent fools." There are no humans in football. Coaches cut players all the time for non-performance. You don't hear anyone crying about that. Sometimes it is just about the economics (salary cap) and has nothing to do with performance (like Carpenter being cut for Sturgis). Don't hear anyone crying about that.

Stop with this crap that Ross is just guilty of being human. Bullshit. He's just an incompetent fool who is allowing his team to be driven into the ground by an even bigger incompetent fool, JEFFY IRELAND.

Did Ross sell or die?

Coach Larranaga is a great coach...he had NO STARTERS back from last year's team, and I think this UM team will shock a couple of heavyweights in the ACC before the year is over...we lost at Syracuse yesterday ONLY because UM was 3-4 from the FT line, and SU was 12-14...other than that, UM WAS TOE TO TOE with the #2, undefeated team in the nation. UM had a better shooting percentage, the same amount of rebounds, assists...had the refs called the same game at BOTH ENDS, UM would have come out of there with a BIG WIN....but, GO TO SEE THIS TEAM...and remember, we have a good class coming in for next year...with COACH "L" at the helm, UM will be a force to reckon with for years to come...of course, if you listen to QUIJOTE, it's FIU who's "ON THE RISE" - that guy is sick in the head. GO CANES!

Harleyray

In defense of my good friend FZB, he did not suggest Petrino for the Canes job, I did. And though I agree with you that Petrino is a little bit of a slimeball, he's a winning slimeball. If he gets the Canes job Miami will start winning big again.

In addition, I am not as condemning of those who make personal mistakes as you. We all do. In my mind we're not hiring a priest or nun, we're hiring a football coach. Petrino has proven he can coach college football.

just my opinion. But I doubt Shalala will hire Petrino. Though she has balls, she doesn't use them.

Coach Golden is a fine and honorable man and if he leaves for Penn State we, all Hurricane fans, should thank him for the job he did through all the turmoil of the NCAA investigation. Even though he s a Pen Stater, he does bleed the orange green and white. He has done a great job reviving the Hurricanes, who have gotten better each year, and if the does leave he will not be leaving the cupboard bare like the last two coaches, and he has a pretty good recruiting class coming in. So, I will say "Thank You Coach Golden" now and hope that you stay on as the Hurricane head coach.

Quijote isn't wrong he makes valid points. UCF just won the Fiesta Bowl. Wrap your heads around that little factoid. UCF winning the Fiesta Bowl may be the biggest upset in any major sport this year.day

Happy Birthday Don Shula still one of the all time greats.

We may have missed the playoffs but we didn't blow a 38-10 playoff lead how would you like to be a Chiefs fan today? Shades of Frank Reich.

Douchebag Bahstonian agrees with that psycho Quijote.

Mr. LeBartard some of us simply wanted to go on record that it was abusive and insulting to Human Excrement for associating it's name and purpose with Jeff Ireland's or Joe Philbin's or Mike Sherman's or Stephen Ross' for that matter, particularly in light that none of these gents purposes have yet to be established...

I vondur if Frank Reich was from ze 3rd Reich? Hmmm zounds like a newsworthy SI piece...

The "great Edwin Pope" indeed. The two sports writers that I enjoyed reading the most were LA Times great Jim Murray and Eddie Pope.

Mr. Pope has been a Miami treasure for as long as I remember. His column of the 1985 Monday night victory over the Bears was an instant classic.

No Orange Bowl game in my life will top the year the Canes beat Nebraska for their first championship. None.

Hey I'm all too human too LeBatard!!!

In retrospect, after Andrew Luck's first two seasons work in the NFL, OC was absolutely correct when he started his Suck For Luck campaign drive.

That ain't no Frank Reich quarterbacking the Colts.

Mr. Woodcock,

t.y. hilton had already reached "star quality" befdore last night's effort. t.y. started his last season as a legitimate heisman contender, right here in the old backyard at FIU, and was passed over by the dolphins among others, probably because they thought hewas too small. well, cliff branch was small too. t.y. is ten times the player that mike wallace is and would have been a bargain where he was drafted- http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2012/draft.htm

92nd player picked, six or so after nick foles!!

PHIL EVERLY, RIP:

here is the last song that charted for the everlys;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmj_O6ridqI

"a man in kentucky sure is lucky to live down in bowling green"

"... they wear dresses cut country tight"

absolutely my favorite by don and phil, and they had a whole lot of tremendous records-"cathy's clown", "walk right back", and many many more.

harmonies that simon and garfunkel tried to emulate - "hey, schoolgirl" which they recorded under the name of "tom and jerry" and which also influenced the beatles to a great deal.

They were awesome shadow. The backup band for this concert was Buddy Holly's Crickets about 18 months after the plane crash that took Buddy, JP "The Big Bopper" Richardson and Richie Valens.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTYe9eDqxe8

slow down shadow M. Wallace and TY Hiltons numbers were almost identical this season both had 5 td's and almost a dead heat in terms of yards and catches.

Miami beat that Colt team with M. Wallace leading the way TY is good but let's not crown his ass yet Mike Wallace has had a very solid NFL career so far.

I'm watching the Chargers v Bengals game getting madder than hell. Miami should be playing in this game.

Big Baby,

methinks t.y. hilton does not make the salary that mike wallace does for dropping passes and not bothering to lay out. whatever the stas say, i'd rather have the local phenom than the carpetbagging loudmouth who can't hold on to a pass. haven't checked, but assuming you are correct in # of TDs, i would say that hilton has a better, if not much better, yds/catch.

Its looking more and more like Golden is leaving..can't blame the guy for going after more dinero...I'll I can say is thank you coach ..class act.

Now..The good thing is we are going to have a few very good candidates to replace him.

Its all about the U...

T.Y. Hilton 1083 yds on 82 receptions and 5 TDs

Mike Wallace 930 yds on 73 receptions and 5 TDs

You're right Big Baby their numbers on the field are almost identical. But what about off the field.

T.Y. Hilton 2013 cap number $616,850

Mike Wallace 2013 cap number $3,250,000

Still not too bad. But what about next year?

Next year Hilton's cap number is $706,850. Wallace's cap number for 2014 is $17,250,000.

T.Y is a much better value.

Does anyone else think the Chiefs last pass that was ruled out of bounds could've been called interference? The receiver was nudged prior to making the catch. The nudge forced the catch out of bounds. That's fine, except the nudge was occurring moments before ball-receiver contact. No one is saying much about this, so I'm guessing it's ok. I would classify it as interference. Many arbitrary calls on interference this season.

Can somebody explain to me why miami can't pay a coach?

Big Baby,

hilton had 9 more catches, and a long of 70+ yds, but otherwise the stats are about equal; however, i am not one who believes that stats define a player- would much rather have hilton at 1/5 the price of mike wallace. mike wallace doesn't run over the middle, and i don't think he ever will; everything that he catches is along he sideline and he poses no threat running routes over the middle.

Who do we blame for the failure of the suck for Luck campaign? Moore for coming in and playing well. Or Henne for getting injured?

Anybody who thinks mike wallace is a 60mill. wr, stop it. He was a product of being luckey to play with big ben. Once again pitts was smart keeping brown ( all pro) and dumping wallace. Just like when they let burress, and holmes walk. All you get for this money is 1 more win, and 5 tds. Hell, the Pats got 4tds from an undrafted fa who played 10 games, and they only had to pay the guy $403,000.

WTF

Blame Ireland and Ross for letting Sporano think he had a chance to save his job.

Naples Jack,

mike wallace isn't worth 60 cents. and my longtime faves the bengals are imploding wih numerous turnovers and about to give up another score.

Not only are Alex Smith and Luck good QB's but they can run too. Both chalked up good yardage yesterday. They turned around horrible teams quickly.

wallace, but his own admission, did have a subpar year.
tennehill also missed him at least 10 times this season.
it wasn't until the last 5 weeks that he actually went to him more than once every other game.
put wallace with a QB like luck and NO ONE is talking about TY hilton being better.
and shadow, how can you call him a loud mouth?
he was a good soldier all year, said the right things, etc.
marshall was WAY louder, and guys like owens, etc are loudmouths.

RIP phil everly. very sad loss..
the early stuff is classic, but often overlooked are the warner bros years in the 60's.
records like "roots" and "stories we can tell" are AMAZING.

Canesport is now indicating Golden has accepted the job as new HC for Penn State and he will depart Monday. That was a pretty fast decision. He ll also now be getting excellent South Florida recruits because he sure worked hard to meet their high school Coaches. As a result....hope we get a Davis or a big name Coach who s of course also a GREAT recruiter.Talent is abundant in South Florida but the new Miami Cane HC must be top dog in recruiting here always.

Not so fast my friend...Golden just released a statement saying he is staying at the U...

And that my fellow Cane fans is great news for the program...Golden is in my book a man of integrity, he has elected to stay when most people would have left for a much bigger pay check.

Its all about the U !!!!

FZB please provide a link for that statement.

Really?I haven t heard/seen that?Where?

Tom,

Front page of da Herald...

Guys.....just saw the tweet and viewed the link.Thanks.I like Golden but I can t stand his pal/D Onofrio as a Defensive Coordinator. He must transfer his Coordinator on Defense.Linebacker and O line Coach need to be upgraded as well.Back to recruiting and let s hope Valentine reconsiders the U instead of LSU....though I can t blame the kid s excellent judgement on getting better defensive coaching at LSU.Most of their defensive line studs have lucrative careers in the NFL.

Yes we are mediocre but at least we aren't the Bengals. Last playoff victory. 1990. Sorry shadow but they really are the Bungles.
