Happy holidays! Annual Christmas video from me (and friends) to you; plus NFL Pix 'n Fantasy, Heat-Lakers, Dolphins' playoff likelihood & more

1) It is THURSDAY, DECEMBER 26. I'm down in the Friday Page Dungeon today summoning this week's NFL predictions. 2) Hope all of you who celebrated it had a very Merry Christmas! 3) To the e-mailers asking: I have bunch of back-loaded vacation days I need to use before end of year. That's why I have had fewer columns lately. 4) In The Previous Blogpost (ITPB): Dolphins fall flat in Buffalo, DSM poll & more. 5) Follow us on Twitter (gregcote), Instagram (Upsetbird), Vine (Greg Cote) and Facebook (Greg Cote).

LeBron's big honor: Heat's LeBron james today named Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for 2013. Easy choice, and richly deserved.

1aa1blogxmas13OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS VIDEO FOR READERS WHO'VE BEEN GOOD: All of you in our Blog Family and readers both online and in print have made it another great year for us, and I am grateful. Thank you. That's me in the middle at right. Got together the other day with four old friends -- Miley Cyrus, Drunk Cartoon Santa, Richie Incognito and LeBron James -- to make this Christmas video. Click HERE and enjoy. Happy holidays to all!

NFL PIX 'N FANTASY / WEEK 16: ENDING ON A POSITIVE NOTE: Blaming the holiday hurly burly 1aa1fripixfor posting this a couple of days later than usual... NFL predix: Only went 8-8 overall this past week on my NFL picks but was an ethereal 12-3-1 against the spread. That included six 'dogs-with-points. Fantasy: Greg's Lobos won again in our consolation-round playoffs, 107-63, to finish fifth in our eight-team league. I ain't braggin'. Congrats to our champion, Bennie & The Jets (Christie Ferrara). Well deserved!osers say, I know.

HEAT-LAKERS. TWO THINGS: First, with Kobe Bryant out injured (again) and the Lakers mediocre, yesterday's game in L.A. hardly was the NBA jewel David Stern envisioned. Second, I don't like sporting events on Christmas. Just don't. It isn't a religious/sacrilege thing with me. I just think there should be a day when even almighty sports rests, and when athletes get to make it about family first, not career.

COMPUTER LIKES RAVENS OVER DOLPHINS FOR LAST PLAYOFF SPOT: You know by now that to make the playoffs the Dolphins must beat the Jets on Sunday and hope either the Ravens or Chargers lose. Five AFC playoff spots are spoken for and four teams are alive for that final No. 6 seed. Here is how the computers at makenflplayoffs.com sees the likelihood: Ravens 43.76 percent, Dolphins 37.46, Chargers 12.58 and Steelers 6.20. So, Dolfan. Feeling lucky?

Click back. Will updating/adding to this latest blogpost...

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Greg. Thanks for the forum.

Hey I think Miley Cyrus just slipped ole dukey the tongue...

indeed.. thank you greg, and happy christmas to you and all the others on here..

Let's see, I Recognize Cots ma love Lebron on Guitar, Cote on bass I recognize Sana on ad, The one I cant figure out is the guy on drums....
Dapper is that you???????????????

how can paid sports writers get the most basic facts about their teams playoff scenarios wrong. This is their freaking job and cant take 5 seconds to research it? its pathetic. The dolphins are the statistical favorite to make the playoff over the ravens and chargers. The reason being if they win and the ravens lose they're in. They're also in even if the ravens win but the chargers win as well creating a 3 way tie which is very likely since Kansas city will be resting their starters against the chargers. The dolphins would win a 3 way tie because they have the advantage in conference record. So the dolphins have multiple likely ways of getting into the playoffs and currently hold the 6th final spot as we speak. I have no idea what Greg is referencing when he says we have to hope the chargers lose. We actually want them to win. And if it comes down to the ravens losing and us being tied with the chargers , we'd win that tiebreaker as well due to our heads up win earlier this year against them. So once again we have the easiest statistical path to get into he playoffs

Speed, Cote is the Fountain of misinformation........
Unless it's got something to do with Lebron(Man Love)(Not that there's anything wrong with that)Or something liberal(Gay marriage. ETC.ETC.)(See Manlove above) You can trust anything "LEFTY" Cote says..............

OK Guys Happy Holidays.................
(The wife is of the..... Well you know....)

Merry Christmas guys................

http://holidayhub.noradsanta.org/

Hey guys life is good and we have a lot to be thankful for. God bless all of you and I hope each of you and your families have a very very Merry Christmas. I know I will.

I asked Santa for a victory over the Jets on Sunday and a GM for next year with half a brain (a half more than our current GM has). I hope I didn't ask for too much....you know the half a brain part.

Merry Christmas and Go Fins!!!

Florida is expected to hire Duke offensive coordinator Kurt Roper to the same position, with an announcement later this week, sources told ESPN.com.

Merry Christmas,guys...and to all your fams...may your roads rise...

Merry Christmas to you

GEEZ, (REAL) DAVE READS ARMANDO!!!!

the blogsite and the TV listings are the only things worth anybody's attention in the herald sports page; who the **** cares what a pisher who is the beat writer has to say. our blog family, to whom i wish a merry xmas and a happy and healthy new year, provides all the information needed about the dolphins that one needs to know. ARMANDO!!! is he the guy that cuts (real) dave's hairs after a vigorous shampoo? ARMANDO!!!

shadow, if you think, with all your old school football and USC stories, that ANY of the people you admire and incessantly write about in football support miami attempting 3 rushes with their quickest back in a game against one of the worst rushing defenses in freezing rain, then i have nothing more to say to you..

point is, i am not the only one who thought we should've maybe run the ball more.
the guy that's covered the team for over 20 years thought so, too.
you, (and tom for that matter), turning that sentiment into some crazy loony idea of mine is ridiculous.
it doesn't take a genius to see that IF:

buffalo is 26th against the run, and

miami is a respectable 15th in yards per carry

AND you factor in freezing rain, dependable receivers dropping balls all over the place and an inconsistent line reverting to it's turnstile ways, AND you don't even roll your quick QB out, (who actually throws on the run better than throwing downfield), then RUN THE Fing BALL!

if you happen to show up at canters tonight for our jam, i am keeping you away from the mogen david!

Everyone knows Obama is Santa Claus.

David in LA nothing says Christmas more than MD 20/20 and Mescaline...I

HO HO HO! MERRY CHRISTMAS DUKEY! NOW GIVE ME THAT MILK AND THOSE COOKIES BEFORE I POP A CAP IN YOUR A** DIRTBAG!!!

Speedbum, I'm surprised he wrote that. It's well known that we want San Diego to win, not lose - if indeed we want to see Phins in playoff. Question is, will the Phins actually win?

"we'll see how their "vaunted"-by the one and only really real dave-running goes when they play either NE or the bengals in the first round of the playoffs" -shadow

i did a bit of research, ole shadow.

whenever lamar miller has gotten 11 carries or more, which is WAY under what most running backs get a game, he runs for AT LEAST 62 yards.
every time.
for the 6 games he's gotten those carries.
that's an average of 76 yards with minimal carries.
oh, and to your assertion that we'll crumble if we run in the playoffs against those amazing AFC teams, read on, my misguided hebrew brother..

against the colts? 14 carries for 69 yards. 4.9 average.

against new england game 1? 18 rushes for 89 yards with a 4.9 average, mostly in the 1st half as that amazing sherman abandoned the run in the 2nd half.

against cincinnati? 16 carries for 105 yards 6.6 average

against new england game 2? 15 carries for 61 yards with a 4.1 average.

that's 5.1 yards a carry, WITH MILLER, against, um..
the colts, cincinnati, and NEW FREAKING ENGLAND.

any questions?

these aren't opinions.
ireland sucks, he doesn't suck, etc, THOSE are opinions that we will debate forever.
my assertion that our running game has been underused to the detriment of the entire team's success is rooted in fact.
against the top AFC teams we've played, including our nemesis the patriots, we are running the ball for over 5 yards a carry with lamar miller.
AND HE'S ONLY FUMBLED ONCE.
if any of you think that NOT using this guy more is a good idea, you need your heads examined.

Merry Christmas all. You too Greg despite that boner you just pulled on the Dolphins playoff picture. Too much eggnog?

Would like to at least see an "I stand corrected" blurb.

A Big Merry Christmas to all American Service Troops around the world and here in the USA. Thanks for all you do. Thinking of you as I type.

Once again,I hear so many concerned with whether or not the Ravens will lose or Chargers will win...are people honestly just assuming the Phins will win this game???I don't care how bad the Jets are you have to be a FOOL to think that a Phins win is a gimme...has history taught you nothing? Hell, has last week taught you nothing?...look,I think the Phins are going to come out on top in an emotional win that will be much closer than the last time we played them......Jets would LOVE to end our season the way we have done to them a couple times in the last few years..and if the Phins do manage to lose it wouldn't exactly be shocking....nonetheless,the people who have already awarded the game to the Phins are just straight up silly...

and yeah Cote, how about a correction on that erroneous playoff scenario you laid out for us...

WHAT A BLESSING!!!!

the (real) dave has "nothing more to say to me"!!!!!! nice knowin' you, pal

"these aren't opinions" so says dapper dave. i could not agree more...

Where Miami ranked the past 5 years in total offense and defense

2009
Total Offense 17th
Total Defense 22nd

2010
Total Offense 21st
Total Defense 6th

2011
Total Offense 22nd
Total Defense 15th

2012
Total Offense 27th
Total Defense 21st

2013
Total Offense 28th
Total Defense 20th

Miami has improved? Well the FACTS tell a very different story. Looks to me that they are no different today than they've been the past 5 years. If anything it looks like Miami is worse, especially defensively, since Ireland took control after 2010. And the record? As I showed above it is about the same this year as it has been for the past decade.

Time for the ostrich crew (you know who you are) to take your heads out of the sand.

any questions?

Thank you Who's your daddy. I was thinking of doing that myself.

oh boy, you infidels (non believer's) are missing the whole point here..David's,BB and mine point is a simple one that the Dolphins have improved in a couple of major areas the last three years which in time will translate to more wins and playoffs contention..

numero uno improvement..The QB, we now have a young up and coming franchise QB which is the most important and most difficult position to fill...any one care to debate me on this point?

numero two..over all the talent on the team is better now than it was three years ago, and this is not open for debate either, do we still have holes?..yes of course but even the best team in the NFL (Seattle) has holes, Ireland has been in charge three yrs and him and Philbin are building the team trough the draft which is the correct way but it takes time.

numero three...coaching, this team over all is much better coached now under Philbin than under Sparano, this is not debatable either, our young players are maturing and showing improvement.t

compared to three short years ago, we are now better coached, have over all better talent and have a franchise QB..if this is not improvement then I don't know what is.

despite all of our short comings as a team specially a horrendous offensive line we are still alive for a playoff spot with ONE game to go in the season...and some of you still don't think we are improving, you guys are not too bright.

ps- hope everyone has/had a nice Christmas eve/ day today.

Cote has major problems probably caused by a thrill-up-his leg for Obama like Mathews, another lib-loon

FZB do you really want to hitch your wagon to david? seriously my good friend you might want to reconsider.

as to your specific points.

Tanneill may be better than other QBs Miami has had since Marino but that is still an open question. By QB ranking he is a lower third QB.

Talent is better now? Where? I'll give you QB. Where else? WR? NO! OL? NO! RB? NO! DL? yes but only slightly. DB? NO! As dave pointed out stats are not opinions and the stats say Miami's talent is not better.

Philbin is a much better coach. Agreed. But he is hamstrung with a shitty GM.

MERRY CHRISTMAS MY GOOD FRIEND. Wnen your son comes over today (not the DR who we are abundantly proud of) I hope you kick his ass for breaking our hearts.....AGAIN!

Yeah Baby!!! I got a G. I. Joe with a Kung-fu grip!!!

If we go 8-8 and miss the playoffs,I wonder if the Ireland apologists will still be true believers...something tells me they aren't as convinced as they like to think they are...weren't you saying we should blow the whole thing up a few weeks ago,FZB? Even if we make the playoffs and are one and done,is that the type of progress you are really happy with...one game increments each year? Yes,technically it is improvement but looking past the black and white is it really the type of improvement you are happy with?? 2008 was improvement too? Then what happened after that? was it a mirage?...none of us are getting younger...ask yourself if you are able to be complacent enough to where this is the type of improvement you will settle for...

Tannehill is indeed up and coming but is still unproven...definitely our brightest hope since Danny...but will he develop into what we need to be,because as of now he is just average...of course he is playing with a dreadful O-line but he still has some pocket presence problems and still can't connect on anything over 20 yds...that being said there is definitely an upside to the kid...let's see if he can harness it...and if that O-line isn't ever addressed,it simply won't matter will it?

this O-line has been ignored time and again and is solely responsible for a losses this season...58 sacks??!!! Nuff said...

We have a couple of studs as DB's but as a whole teams haven't had a problem driving down the field on them in some of these games(even some of the one's we managed to win...

Running backs? Can we really hinge our future on Miller and Thomas...Consistency is everything, gentlemen and those guys are not...

and nobody can tell me they have faith in our kicker...I hold my breath every time he kicks and I've watched him also miss a couple of extra point attempts...it may seem miniscule but a kicker is very important for a (fist-pump) team like the Phins...

Bottom line is we are average/mediocre and have been for a long, long time...I don't see it changing...Last week was a chance to start a new chapter and in the biggest game of the last few years we went out and did what Dolphins do...to have faith after that kind of performance with what was on the line seems crazy...I know as fans we tend to let emotion get the best of us but some perspective is needed...the only thing that would start to convince me is if we destroy the Jets and win at least 2 playoff games...how many are honestly convinced that will happen?

well-said roid.

I got some Owsley Purple and an electric train! Hear my train a comin'!

I got egged for singing It's a Wonderful Christmas Time...

Tom get's it...he has laid out the facts for you up above...2009-2013...look at it...it's right there...

the one thing we can all agree on no matter where you sit with Ireland is the O-Line...how can such important pieces be disregarded time and time again?...especially now with what everyone hopes will be a franchise QB...58 sacks, friend!!!! 58!!!!! Sacked 7 times by the Bills in the most important game in years...think where we would be if we didn't have 58 sacks, not to mention some of the other obvious egregious players that have been abundantly documented...we sure as shit wouldn't be trying to back in to the playoffs on the last game of the season, hoping that other teams lose...

*In my last post I meant to say Sturgis 'almost' missed extra points...not 'also'...

Thumbnail sketch of the Dolphins

Dreadful ownership

Incompetent GM

Mediocre coaches

What's not to like?

Also, the playoff format is awful. The wildcard spots are no more than consolation prizes to mid level teams so more games can be played and more money made for the league. Before long the season will consist of ten regular season games and fourteen playoff games.

Duke did put up 50 on your annual preseason National Champs, Miami Hurricanes. Imagine what he can do with Florida talent? Too bad the only decent recruits for the Canes are bolting and looking around at other schools. Dah U home of the 3 star recruit! Enjoy more mediocrity for 2014 and the foreseeable future.

Merry Christmas to all including the very few Hurricanes fans and the 10% far left loons.

May the Dolphins crush the Jets on Sunday.

Damn pimple you just can't get anything right. The U has more 5 and 4 stars than Florida.

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/teamrank/2014/all/all

http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=14&yr=2014

But what difference does it make? The Gators could have every 5 star recruit in the country and it would not matter. The Gators would still lose because Muschump does less with more than any coach in the country.

Georgia Southern 26 Florida 20 hahahaaahahahahaahahaha..

Santa brought me a brain.

nice knowing me pal? wow shadow.
you claim those AFC team will keep us from running, i prove that we've averaged 5 yards a carry on the ground against those very teams, and that's all you say? lol..

tom, i don't care about those rankings.
you are what your record says you are, and right now we are vying for a playoff spot and we have a winning record.
THAT IS AN IMPROVEMENT.

roid?

drafting 4 players and signing 4 free agents on the last 2 years is not "ignoring the line".
some moves pan out, others don't.
there are less holes on the team now than 2 years ago, and i can assure you the line will be the primary focus this off season.

as to your comment that the running backs are inconsistent, i call BS.
the PLAY CALLING has been inconsistent, and giving 3-5 carries to a back averaging 5 yards a carry when getting the ball 11 times is ridiculous.
he's gotten over 20 carries ONCE this year. over 15 carries only 4 times.
running backs should get more than that and routinely do, except for THIS team..

we all remember ricky hovering at 40-50 yards going into the 2nd half when he's then break one.
lamar is one of the fastest guys on the team, and we are underusing him.
WE PASS TOO MUCH.
we're missing our starting tight end, our starting slot receiver, 2 starting linemen and sherman could care less.

leading the league in sacks?
i have a sure fire way of limiting sacks:
RUN THE D#$N BALL.
how about NOT lining up with no one in the backfield on 3 and 2.

our RBs are 2nd stringers and our OL, with the exception of Pouncey, are practice squad and 2nd string players. Tannehill is the only legit first string NFL player in the Dolphin backfield. i assume the coaches recognize that simple fact.

assuming now that the coaches learned more about football from their years of coaching experience in college and the nfl compared to your playing experiences getting pancaked by 135 lb left tackles, i will defer to their judgment on play calling over yours david. my guess is that the coaches have figured out from practice running against Miami's 25th ranked rushing defense that our RB/OL combination sucks.

just a thought...

some interesting facts about Miami's running game. Miller, Thomas and Tannehill (the top 3 rushers) have gained a total of 1261 yds on 305 carries or 4.13 yds per carry. however, if you eliminate the longest carry by each player they gained 1109 yds on 302 carries or 3.67 yds per carry. once again my guess is Miami is not running because, on average, they are just not getting the job done.

simple enough facts for someone who truly wants to see.

Christmas NBA basketball has been the equivalent of getting a bag of coal from Santa.

Tom,

is there anything more dreadful than 5!!!!! NBA games on TV on the 25DEC?? the NBA is unwatchable at most times, barring deciding playoff games, and even they don't get exciting till the last two minutes; where is good ole ginrai on this big holiday? out in the dustbin of our blogsite along with Kazaam, and mike1- too bad, as the three of them provided good stuff. happy holiday to you all and wishes for a peaceful, prosperous and healthy rest of '13 and 2014.

Hey Shadow

Ginrai provided a lot of entertainment and though I often disagreed with the kazmeister he added a lot to the blog. I miss both of them. mike1 splips in and out but I agree with you he is too often missing. kaz was an every day blogger and I do fear something bad has happened to him. I hope I'm wrong.

The NBA on Christmas has been a tradition and at times in the past there were some awesome games. Today has been a disaster. If the NBA were smart they'd pull the plug and say there were technical difficulties. They're not drawing any new fans with the crap on the tube today.

Thanks for the well wishes my old friend. Back at you.

I think Kazzy was actually HEISENBERG. Too bad you weren't running labs in the 60s when the universe meant something and meth was merely something the Germans whipped up to stay awake during the Battle of the Bulge. What it meant I have no idea...

Sir Paul it was only right you should be egged for that Christmas monstrosity of a tune. Don't wash it off if you have any conscience or sense of decency...

tom, you're a douche, PERIOD.
"if you eliminate the longest carry by each player they gained 1109 yds on 302 carries or 3.67 yds per carry".
so?
that's still a 1st down every 3 downs according to your convoluted math.
you'll defer to the expertise of the coaches, but not the GM, huh?
how selective of you.
you will call ireland an idiot, but all of a sudden a coaching staff trying to fit players into their system instead of the other way around gets a pass?
what a joke.
every criticism nationally of this team is playcalling.
columnists say it.
analysts calling the games say it.
but YOU know best, huh?

David my misguided friend you are far too angry. Chill out life is too short to get so mad over nothing.

David,

Once our offensive line get's fixed all our coaches will look like geniuses, guarantee.

david david david these coaches are coaching with an anchor tied to around their necks. the anchor is NO talent. a rushing game requires talented RBs and talented OL. the dolphins have neither. what is s ffing hard to understand about that. help him FZB.

The moon is right
The spirit's up
We're here tonight
And that's enough

Simply having a wonderful Dolphin team,

Simply having a wonderful Dolphin time,

Simply an average team, oh yeah...

Do you all still think I'm the cute Beatle???

I even nauseate meself lads...

hey tom? when your running back is averaging 4 yards a carry with only 10 carries a game, that's not a "lack of talent".
it's a lack of commitment.

in fact, adam beasley, (the other guy at the herald who covers the dolphins), explains it really well.
i guess i, armando, AND adam beasley don't know what we are talking about.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/12/25/3837691/miami-dolphins-continuing-their.html

read the article, tom.

Gentleman,

Football 101 says if you run the football you can control the tempo of the game, pass when you want to and not when you have to and allows you to keep your defense rested and keeps your QB from being killed, David is correct the Dolphins abandoned the run against a team that has not stopped the run all year.

Of all our problems on defense ( mainly our inability to stop the run ) it pales in comparison with our offensive line, I will be disappointed if we don't draft at least three O Lineman in the up coming draft , we need to fix it this year.

Later.

Oline improvement should be number 1 priority. 2 is a running back that can break at least one tackle per year and not be a whiffer on pass protection. Everytime Miller and Thomas get tackled, they fall backwards. Watched Miller at the U, I thought he was a steal when fins got him, but he just seems lost at times - what a disappointment.

david if you really read adam's column what he is saying is running it more is NOT going to produce different results. here is the quote...

"The Dolphins have thrown the ball a staggering 63 percent of the time, and yet have been no more efficient than last season.

A year ago, when they were closer to a 50-50 run-pass split, Miami averaged 311.5 yards per game and 5.1 yards per play. This year, even with the ratio skewed? The numbers are flat — 314.1 and 5.0."

The talent on this team is at QB, TE and WR...NOT RB and OL. Passing is our only hope and any dope can see that. Well almost any dope.

FZB I sent a note to Santa asking that he give you some football common sense for Christmas. You must not have opened it yet. It's in the acqua and orange wrapped box that says in block letters "FOOTBALL COMMON SENSE FOR FZB".

OPEN IT IMMEDIATELY.....PLEASE.

Q: Is there hope for Miami's tailbacks? Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas have barely combined for 1,000 rushing yards this season. Is their problems the offensive line, or do the Dolphins need to find new running backs?

A: The Dolphins feature a finesse offense, and that includes the offensive line and the running backs. Neither of them can gain a third-and-2 with a tough, physical run. And neither of them can consistently pass protect. While the interior of the offensive line is indeed part of the problem, and the absence of a true fullback has been an issue, IT DOESN'T TAKE A BLIND MAN TO SEE that the Dolphins need to upgrade the stable of tailbacks, either through free agency or the draft. Miller is fragile, and Thomas is better suited to run in an I-formation offense, behind a lead blocker. The main weakness of this offense is Miami's inability to gain a tough physical yard when needed, and the Dolphins inability to close out a game on the ground. That's why I'd add two athletic offensive guards, and sign a free agent tailback like Houston's Ben Tate (who will be expensive) or New England's LeGarrette Blount. Hell, Ronnie Brown would fit in this offense. I've seen enough from Miller and Thomas to conclude neither will be a consistent 1,000-yard rusher in the NFL.

AFC Playoffs: Miami Has 66% Chance of Being Last Wildcard, Based on Point Spreads

here is what we get for the final wildcard spot:

Miami – 66.0%
San Diego – 16.7%
Baltimore – 14.6%
Pittsburgh – 2.7%

Miami is the overwhelming favorite to get the last wild card spot.

Been following Omar Kelly for a few years, dude is usually spot on. You can't argue against Omar's posted comment about the running game.

Yeah,totally agree with Omar here...

Here's my theory on the Fins O line last 5 years. We bring in 2 coaches Philbin & Sparano that were O line coaches before becoming a new head coach. IMO they feel that they can develop a good O line out of NFL bottom feeders because that is where THEIR expertise is. Sparano said this publicly, not Philbin. They thought they had a servicable T in Martin. Philbin stated that Martins IQ & footwork were good enough but he was too soft his rookie season. Philbin wanted Martin to add 15 lbs of muscle coming into 2013. MARTIN failed his team by what he did, opting out. Martin opted out - like - Ricky Williams opted out. Except Martin wants an angle to keep his cash, Ricky didn't care.

Dolphins are a flawed team ( who isn't? ). O line need 2 - 3 new players. I'd resign McKinney to a 2 yr deal, Pouncey. Brenner proved that he belongs, mostly backup and emergency starter. Jerry, Clabo needs to go. Incognito or Martin will never be in a Dolphins uniform.

RB's? IMO we haven't seen enough carries out of the 2 to throw them away. Improved O line & more carries before your drafting here. Both RB's have failed in pass protection this year,,, that is the coaches fault.

Dolphins run D. The line has been exceptional. Misi is a decent fundamental LB, Wheeler & Ellerby are the week link. W & E are an improvement vs the pass and blitzing but aren't plugging the running game and aren't stopping the run at the line of scrimage.

Dimitri Patterson is on the IR. Shame too because from what I have seen is this guys coverage is better than Grimes... that good. He won't be back, can never stay healthy.

Nolan Carroll & Jimmy Wilson improved their play 100& from last season to this one.

sorry about the typos,, too much caffeeeen. wife got me Keurig coffee brewer & I am jacked up on JET FUEL.

Merry Christmas guys peace and good health to you all. Happy Hanukkah shadow but I have to say the Merry X mas spelling was in poor taste would it kill you to actually spell Christ?

Need a Dolphins win and a little help to make it a Happy New Year.

Should happen KC is resting starters don't blow it now Miami.

F*** Jesus Christ.

After checking the stats from the bills game, 12 running plays and the longest run was 3yds. You only had 6 1st downs, and 0 pts. So you have to ask yourself, is it the o-line,rbs, or lack of awareness by your franchise qb. I watched the whole game, and to my eyes, it was combination of all 3. Tannah has to show better awareness to blitzes, and get rid of the ball quicker. Everybody knows the o-line problems. The rbs are mediocre at best. They cant help out with blocking. They are not power runners that you can count on to get 1-2 yds in a tight game.

well, wha-do-u-know...

so we all are in agreement here that the problem is the offensive line..that's a first.

we need a whole new O Line, keep only McKenney and Pouncey.

a big physical possesion receiver (get rid of Hartline or Gibson) sorry BB.

a tough physical runner and a lead blocker fullback type.

on defense re sign Soliai and Grimes and maybe Clemmons....keep Patterson only if he agrees to a pay cut..

get rid of Wheeler and start Dion Jordan at strong side LB, move Ellerbe to weakside LB and move Misi to middle LB.

there, I just fixed the defense.

Jumbo, try the Starbucks brand of French roast in K-cups. That's the ticket!

Hahaha....sorry Jimbo. The U is too close to the I on this tiny iPhone keyboard.

what's an IPhone?

While I generally agree with most assessments on here concerning the failures of the OL and RBs, the argument skirts the obvious fault. Had Ross hired a competent GM to begin with, he would not be staring at a team that continues trying to become great through the efforts of coaches and player selections ill-equipped to produce what is needed. At some point the owner needs to recognize that a continual cycle of .500 ball requires a more thorough and complete eradication of the problem.

Exactly...

contrary to what some of you may think, Ireland has drafted a few very good young players.

Tannehill
Pouncey
Clay
Wilson
Vernon
Miller
Matthews

and that is in just his first two draf's, this years draft get's an imcomplete grade..

Ireland's Causality List

And counting...

Amen to that OC.

say Gallo...

that little list you keep posting is truly laughable, I would debate you on most of those names but I can't debate a 10 year old.

10 yo against a retard would be a pretty good match lol!

starting running backs get more than 10 carries a game.
when miller has gotten more than that, the numbers show he's produced.
i'm not arguing we have adrian peterson; i am merely saying the jury is still out on miller, he HAS produced when given the carries, (numbers don't lie), and this running back by committee BS is not working.
when you watch the patriots, saints, etc they run the ball more than we do.
and tom?
for someone screaming about the line the way YOU keep doing, to argue that passing is our only hope shows ignorance.
we already have more sacks than any time in history.
it's NOT WORKING.
and it's on the coaches to do what works, which is run.

FZB

Debate Gallo on ....

Brandon Marshall
Reggie Bush
Jake Long
Vontae Davis
Dion Jordan
Jonathan Martin
Daniel Thomas
Dez Bryant

david you asked me to read an article. i read it. the more important question is did you read it? or did you just read the headline like an idiot? my guess is the latter.

here is my prior post on the article you asked me to read

david if you really read adam's column what he is saying is running it more is NOT going to produce different results. here is the quote...

Tom..

Marshall..Parcells taded for him, Ireland traded him at his request and with the approval of Philbin, he was a cancer here and we had a rookie coach and a rookie QB coming in, not a good thing..good move.

Reggie Bush..Great move by Ireland to get him here without giving up anything to the Saints, gave us a couple of really solid years but the team had Miller waiting in the wings, looking back he would have been a good fit with Tannehill but the guy is getting up in age and is getting injured..

Jake Long-great player at the beggining but too injury prone to give him the money he wanted, proof?,,he just tore his ACL, has not been able to finish the season for three years in a row...good move.

Vontae Davis..a head case while here, drafted by Parcells, showed up out of shape the last two yrs here, Philbin wanted nothing to do with him..has done nothing in Indy and they are questioning why they gave up so much for him, good move.

Dion Jordan-incomplete.

Jonathan Martin- a total pussy

Daniel Thomas-average at best, has shown nothing, next year will be his last year here unless he improves dramatically.

Dez Bryant..Parcells traded back to the end of round one and picked up a second, a lot of teams passed on him, lasted until pick #24 for a reason, Dolphins drafted Odrick and Misi, two good defensive players, Bryant was a head case his first three yrs, seems to be maturing, physically a stud..oh and his mom is a hoe.

anything else amigo?

tom, YOU are the idiot.

"Sunday’s loss to the Bills highlighted a PROBLEM that has persisted all season for the Dolphins, who have been passing the football a lot more than they have been running it."

"problem", somewhat connotes that it isn't a good thing, tom.

"Sunday was the continuation of a run-adverse, season-long trend. Out of the Dolphins’ 204 third-down attempts this year, they have run the ball only 23 times. And 15 of those instances came on third-and-1."

predictable, huh?

"If nothing else, it adds an element of surprise — something sorely lacking from the Dolphins’ game plan."

again, i'm not hearing anything positive about us passing as much as we are.

as to your assertion that when we were balanced we got the same yardage, well there are a few things to look at.
we are stronger at receiver and tight end this year. last year there was one viable option, hartline. that isn't the case this year.
AND our pass protection is weaker as well, which is all the more reason to limit throws and balance them with a running game.
wallace is a burner and they weren't using him to his strengths until a few weeks ago.

At this point, anything is worth trying at least once. The Dolphins have the league's seventh-fewest rushing yards (1,348) this season. Yet that meager total has as much to do with QUANTITY as quality."

my point exactly. when your running back is averaging over 4 yards a carry, GIVE HIM THE BALL MORE.
when he gets more than 10 carries, he gets at least 60 yards. EVERY TIME.

also, "five of the league’s six run-heaviest teams are in line to make the playoffs."

need i say more?

well i will:

"When the Dolphins decide to run the ball (and stick with it), THEY TEND TO HAVE THE MOST SUCCESS. Take for example their 36-carry game against the Jets four weeks ago, which was probably their most complete win of the season."

so the answer to your question tom is YES, i did read the article.
anyone that reads that article and thinks the theme is to throw the ball more is an fing idiot.
but we already knew that..

i can't help but wonder what this offense, with these weapons, would produce if they had the same run/pass ratio as last year..

The point is SFB, they ran more last year and the results are no different. You want more running all you have to do is look to last year to see what would happen.

FZB you're an enabler. You excuse the inexcusable. Seriously dude you need to stop be an apologist for incompetence.

Trading Marshall was the worst trade in Dolphins history.

Trading Davis was beyond stupid.

Drafting Jordan when we need OT help was a horrible pick even if Jordan could play, and he can't.

Asking Dez is his mother is a prostitute says Ireland has NO common sense. A bad quality for a GM.

Letting Jake Long go in free agency without a good replacement was the straw that broke the camel's back. With just an average OL this team would be competing for the AFC East.

Letting Reggie Bush get away in free agency for a million bucks was insane. Not only can he run, he can pass catch and pass block.

Not benching Martin when everyone knew he was too weak to be an OT was incompetence squared.

Stop being an apologist for the incompetence that is keeping this team from being a winner.

Where is Miami the weakest on offense?

OFFENSIVE LINE and RUNNING BACKS

and someone wants to run more. OMG how is it that people that stupid actually survive.

I've seen enough from Miller and Thomas to conclude neither will be a consistent 1,000-yard rusher in the NFL.

hey "SFB", you can't compare last year's offense to this years, genius.
WE HAVE MORE WEAPONS.

where are we weakest?
well, since our featured back gets 4 yards a carry, AND GETS 6 YDS A CARRY WHEN HE GETS MORE THAN !! CARRIES, all while our QB gets sacked more times than ever in 47 years, i'd say running the ball is our best option, you idiot.

are you really this stupid?
when miller gets carries, he gets yards and we win.
in fact, in every victory but 1, we've gotten yards from either miller of thomas.
you really are a moron..

hey guys! my name is tom. tannehill gets his head knocked off every game, and we never run, but i think our best chance to win is to NOT give the ball to the running back who gets 4 yards a carry and only 10 carries a game!
aren't i smart?

Guys too early for offseason talk meaningful December game still to be played.

Not sure we have more weapons but we have different weapons. Wallace and Clay. But gone are Bush and the OL. Oh my the new weapons are PASSING WEAPONS and the missing weapons were rushing weapons.

Give it up David. You obviously only read my posts but if you took the time to read everyone else you would see they are laying the wood to you...shadow, Jimbo, roid, OC...Omar Kelly.

Dolphins don't run because they don't have the talent to run.

Have a nice night,

Tom/Dapper, I believe the real cause of bad Offense stem from the Off. Cord.....
Just my theory, but the running game and passing game suck equally....
If both of them could thrive in the same game Miami would be unstoppable....
