NFL Pix 'n Fantasy results; plus LeBron revealed, happy anniversary Bartman, exhilaration and disgust, updated SOPY rankings, Philbin verdict & more

It's Radio Tuesday!: Somewhat to my surprise I'm back in-studio today at 3 p.m. with the Dan Le Batard Show on 790 and 104.3 the Ticket and (from 4-7) on ESPN national radio. Ears welcome.

1aa1eid 1aa1columbusIt is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15. One day after Americans marked Columbus Day by making fun of Christopher's funny hat, our Muslim readers today celebrate Eid-Al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. All praise Ishmael; now let's go slaughter an animal! 2) In The Previous Blogpost (ITPB): Joe Philbin poll, Canes crack Top 10, NFL Week 6 predix, baseball's Final Four, Panthers' Equality Night, Collball Week 7 & more. 3) Follow us on Twitter (gregcote), Instagram (Upsetbird), Vine (Greg Cote) and Facebook (Greg Cote).

NFL PIX 'N FANTASY / WEEK 6: SMALL SIGNS OF LIFE: When we are alone, lost at sea and nearly out 1aa1fripixof hope, the smallest chunk of driftwood on which to grasp feels like a gift from heaven. NFL predix: After the worst three-week slump of our prognosticating career even a modest 9-6 record straight-up and 6-8-1 against the spread (Packers pushed) feels sort of OK. Which tells you how bad it's been. Fantasy: Yes, Greg's Lobos lost yet again, falling to 1-5. But this was 130-122 against a league power, and I'd have won had Dez Bryant done anything at all Sunday night. Ours was the highest losing score. Again, small signs of life. Sometimes, brave optimism is what's left to you, so you grab it.

LEBRON JAMES, REVEALED AND REVEALING: Heat megastar LeBron James has a revealing interview 1aa1espnlebronwith ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard in the new issue. Click HERE to read it. A few things I found interesting: "I know I still have room for improvement," he said. He said he'd be playing more in the low post; "I'm comfortable with it now." He said, "Without MJ [Michael Jordan], there's no me. He gave me hope." And he said of his improved image, "I've seen people's percetion change." The article conspicuously does not address what James might do in the summer of 2014, and void so obvious and glaring that not asking about it must have been a condition of the interview.

HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY, STEVE BARTMAN, WHEREVER YOU ARE: Ten years ago yesterday, Oct. 14, 2003, Cubs fan Steve Bartman stitched himself into the sad quilt of that franchise's history in "the 1aa1bartmanBartman Game" vs. the Marlins. It was Game 6 of the NLCS, Chicago leading Miami (then Florida) by 3 games to 2 and by 3-0 in the eighth inning of that game. Chicago was five outs from its first trip to the World 1aa1bartman2Series since 1945. Then, Bartman happened. A Luis Castillo foul-ball fly down the line, left fielder Moises Alou angling in for the catch -- but Bartman interferes with the ball! Cubs pitching goes on to collapse, Marlins win the series, and everybody blames Bartman, who goes into deep hiding and still has never commented publicly at any length on his role in Cubs (and Marlins) history. His instant infamy and long seclusion make him one of the quirky-fascinating figures in sports history. He issued a brief statement following the episode but has otherwise laid low, althought I'd reccomend this story from ESPN.com on the somewhat successful search for Bartman. Meanwhile, 10 years in hiding is long enough, Steve. Come out, come out, wherever you are. Ditch Chicago. We happen to love you in South Florida, and our weather kicks Chicago's a--. You'd have safe haven here. We'd call you the Mayor of Marlins Park. You could even keep the Cubs hat.

EXHILARATION AND DISGUST ON A SPORTS SUNDAY: The exhilaration first, because that is what sports at its best should be about first. Has Boston ever had a better day for double-cheering than Sunday? First the 1aa1bstrong 1aa1injschaubPatriots beat the previously undefeated Saints 30-27 on a last-second TD pass by Tom Brady, then -- better, bigger -- the Red Sox erased a 5-0 deficit and beat Detroit 6-5 in Game 2 of the ALCS, led by a David Ortiz grand slam. (The lifelong Red Sox fan in me believes in miracles again. That's the magic and power of sports). The disgust occured in Houston, where Texans fans -- not most, but too many -- cheered as QB Matt Schaub injured his ankle and was helped off the field in a loss to St. Louis. Teammates were angry. That is the kind of display that could forever queer Schaub's relationship with that city and its fans. You bought the ticket, fans. Boo the interception if you wish. But cheering an injury crosses a line. It is classless. It embarrasses the city.

SOPY RANKINGS / WEEK 7: WINSTON STILL SMOKING THE COMPETITION: This is the second season of our blog-exclusive State Offensive Player of the Year (SOPY) rankings, a weekly updated list of the 1aa1sopymost productive quarterbacks, running backs and receivers from the state's seven FBS schools: Miami, FSU and Florida, FIU and FAU, and South Florida and UCF. Because our rankings are cumulative players on a bye week take a temporary hit that evens out over course of season. Canes QB Stephen Morris won the 2012 season title with 1,900.5 points. FSU QB Jameis Winston is the current leader even ater a bye week. Our simple formula awards a half-point for every passing yard and one point for every rushing or receiving yard, with six points for every TD scored or thrown. Our 2013 standings entering Week 8:

Rk (LW)   Player, Team-pos.               SOPY Pts. Wk6=Year

1 (1)     Jameis Winston, FSU-qb           BYE = 969.5

2 (3)     Jaquez Johnson, FAU-qb           183.5 = 932

3 (2)     Blake Bortles, UCF-qb               BYE = 762

4 (4)     Duke Johnson, Miami-rb            BYE = 673

5 (5)     Marcus Shaw, USF-rb                DNP = 611

6 (6)     Storm Johnson, UCF-rb             BYE = 604

7 (8)     Jonathan Wallace, FAU-rb         81 = 579

8 (7)     Stephen Morris, Miami-qb          BYE = 529

9 (--)    Tyler Murphy, Florida-qb            44.5 = 486.5

10 (9)   Kenny Shaw, FSU-wr                 BYE = 484

Bubble: Devonta Freeman, FSU-rb, 449. Other team leader: FIU--Jake Medlock-qb, 408.5. Note: FAU has played seven games; Florida, FIU and USF six each; and FSU, Miami and UCF five each.

Cote's State of the State rankings: 1. FSU (5-0); 2. Miami (5-0); 3. Florida (4-2); 4. UCF (4-1); 5. FAU (2-5); 6. USF (2-4); 7. FIU (1-5).

Poll result: Philbin earns (modest) support: We asked about your take on Dolphins coach Joe Philbin in the previous blogpost, and a plurality of 47.7 percant answered "modest thumbs-up but not entirely sold." Slightly more answered "very impressed" (24.1%) than "not impressed" (21.8%). The other 6.4% were undecided or said it's too soon to say.

shadow, something caught my eye after clicking on Tom's Demi Moore link, so I then turned to Demi Moore Wikipedia backgrounder and found that she attended your old HS. Ms. Harmon had anything but a normal upstart.

I'm offended. And not just by the racist - Mr. Snider and his team from Washington DC, but for the owners of The: C̶̷h̶̷i̶̷e̶̷f̶̷s̶̷ , B̶̷r̶̷a̶̷v̶̷e̶̷s̶̷ , I̶̷n̶̷d̶̷i̶̷a̶̷n̶̷s̶̷ , B̶̷l̶̷a̶̷c̶̷k̶̷h̶̷a̶̷w̶̷k̶̷s̶̷ , D̶̷e̶̷v̶̷i̶̷l̶̷s̶̷ , P̶̷a̶̷d̶̷r̶̷e̶̷s̶̷

Greg believing in miracles implies that you are Catholic and we know that couldn't be further from the truth so please abstain from using that word try another one more accurate.

Shadow your post below would suggest Raiderz will pick up Talleyhoe after he's damaged and win a couple SBs with him. Yup that's if we have an eternal recurrence at work here...

Tom,

an offensive line doesn't get great by adding one player,IMHO. a line takes years of playing as a unit with matbe one fill-in-likemdave dalby taking over the hiking chores from jim otto. you can ease one, or maybe possibly two into an outstanding already group- like the glory era dolphins, raiders, cowboys, chieves, packers,... buy i don't think you you have a "jambalaya" line with 5 pieces thrown together and expect results either running or pass protecting. those patchwork lines that do work are rare. the dolphins are a shambles up front and if they aren't gonna run tannehill will have the same "success" as plunkett did when drafted by the patriots- shoulder damage in the foreseeable future looming, i hate to say. the young man has thrown extremely well and also is the best runner on the team, just as jim plunkett was for the early 70s patriots.

It's over for Schaub in Houston they should trade him while they can.

Schaub could make good Earl Morrall once Fins build O-Line...

OC regarding your last post yes that was a big win for NE Miami will have to sweep them now to win the division probably. I watched most of the game my son is a fan (me quietly rooting for NO all the way) stopped after the Brady pick thinking it was over then I hear him yelling and celebrating saying they won I couldn't believe it Saints were outcoached too bad.

There are just three active QBs, who every team fears, when their team is losing by a score, having possession, and with less than a minute left in the game. They are so proven that there's not even a need to publish their names.

Until those cats are out of the game, Miami can only achieve being the fourth best team.

and who might those QB's be may I ask?

Henne, Matt Flynn and Blaine Gabbert?

Marino, Elway, Montana.

Active. Active!

We all know this was one of Kazaam's favorites. It just reminded me of the only way a defense could really stop one of those three.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQmsBEpDoAg

ok and what have we learned today?

the Red Sox are lucky to be tied with the Tigers.

the Dolphins are not as bad off as some of the negativos have claimed the last few days (Ravens, Browns, Texans, Titans, Bills and Jets all lost) which will help Miami in the long run, and while we are still in the middle of the pack just about everyone else is on the same boat so we along with everyone else have a good chance at the playoffs.

the Canes are a back in the top ten and Golden is one of the better coaches/recruiters in all of college football.

It's only luck FZb when something happens unexpectedly David Ortiz has a postseason resume a mile long that keeps getting longer.

well ok then, Henne, Flynn and Gabbert are active, I think.

and I do miss Kazimiro...

hey BB and OC...you guys think that the Lakers and Celtics will win 50 games this year, combined?

Haha Celtics are going to be bad for a long time I saw that Magic lost his job at ESPN I said last year he was a terrible broadcaster and some here defended him based on who he was a flimsy argument. How I will miss the complete butchering of the English language and that Magic 8 Ball though.

Let me spare you guys the drama. Denver will have home field throughout, NE will also take the weekend off. Indi and Cinci will top their divisions and one will face KC, while nine other teams will compete for the privilege of going to either site and getting waxed. Pitt and J-ville are the only two teams really out of it, though Pitt's pride could possibly squeak them in, were they to go on a run.

...having said that, Miami does have the inside track. Don't screw it up, Dolphins.

Waxed by Cincy or Indy I don't think so Miami is the only team to beat the Colts this year they get major credit for that and Cincy isn't the least bit of a dominating team.

Spoken like a true Laker basher, BB. I give you that. Now, can you FedX me Danny Ainge for a couple of days? I need a new body punching bag.

The Magic 8 ball says.... ask again.

♬ Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on bra!
Lala, how the life goes on.

yeah but are both teams going to top 50 wins combined?

I say probably not..sorry guys.

The idea is to tank FZ so hopefully not.

FZ, 50 games combined?!!! How much $$$ do you want to lose?

If you said 70, even 65 combined wins. Now that would be more closer to the truth. I would put each at 36 wins.

the Celtics will be lucky to win 20 games and the Lakers will be just as lucky to win 30 games, that's how it looks from the 305..

OC, if I lose I'll tell you what FZB stands for, hehe

The East is bad OC but not that bad Boston might win 20 depending on how long Rondo ahem stays hurt. Better that way anyway a high lottery pick is what they need now.

For some reason Frank Zappa pops into my head looks like we agree on the Celtics.

I do like the Laker's Duke pick - Ryan Kelly. That dude can flat out shoot. Unfortunately, the youngster has yet to play, as he recovers from foot surgery. Just hope he survives the 15 roster.

FZB?

Nah. I tried to give him credit in suggesting that they represented his three favorite groups; Floyd, Zep, and Beatles. But he said that wasn't the case. So it's got to be something more basic like: Francisco Zacarias Blanco.

close OC..try,

Fernando Zayas Bazan= FZB

Like in the Abba song.

A very distinguished name.

thank you Baby, it was a very famous name in Cuba back in the day..

I don't know what to do now, should I change my handle to Fernando the blogger formerly known as FZB?

Oh my, FZ, you did the same thing my Dad did and name your son FZB.v2

trust me OC, it wasn't my idea ...I wanted to named him something else but my mom and dad and my wife wanted the same name so I lost out to a higher power..

but happy to report the kid turned out ok..

Oh, no doubt. You're kid turned out great. Doctor, et al. But how do you explain the dork with the orange head gear, with the Hendrix T-shirt on the left. Well, at least duke would be impressed.

http://a4.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/77/6ad95e1359cf4e9db428ac06581751bb/l.jpg

...make that - "your" kid.

yeah !!!!

too funny, that's me and the missus , my son is the big guy and my daughter and hubby and number one grand son in tow and their dog Georgia...

yup, that's me...chit, I don't even know where that was.

and Dukito is my friend, I'm sure he won't make too much fun of this old boy..lol

oh I remember now OC, that was taken a few years back at a Jazz festival on miracle mile, we had a great time.

FZ a couple observations. I look very similar to the guys pictured and could easily pass for being a brother. Not only is you son a doctor but he is a cool doctor too. AND I owned & wore that very T-Shirt until it disintegrated off my body sir. Got it from authentichendrix.com..

Sunday was a great day to be a fan of Boston teams. It was the first time that I can remember, I watched a Pats game without a cold beer. When the Red Sox game came on, my wife opened a bottle of wine, and she could not belive I did not want a glass. I have spent today trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I hope this is not some new trend, watching 2 games with my wife, and not wagering any money on at least 1 game.

of course you guys know I'm much better looking now right?

I'll be hitting the big 6-0 soon, I'm getting better just like wine...

yup Dukito, the Jimmer lives on forever...

...and not drinking. Sounds like a new superstition.

Naples,

I think there' something wrong here, I mean you gotta have at least a little bit of wine while you're watching a game, get yourself checked out and pronto.

FZB was wearing the hat to make his grandson laugh but he probably ended up crying instead.

LOL! FZB looks like a special ed retard and his fat ugly wife looks like she hasn't missed a meal in around 70 years!

Bartman doesn't comment publicly he has his lawyer do it for him no joke lots of blame to go around but what an insanely dumb thing for him to do.

That said it still happens everywhere in baseball granted the stakes aren't as high but I wonder what fans are thinking actually it's a baseball people go buy one at Walmart and stop interfering with the game.

hey, I notice you didn't say anything about the Dodgers today....
is there a problem?

Don't listen to the trolls your family looks happy I am sure his life sucks and it makes him feel better to criticize others.

OC Dolphin,

demi moore a fairfax lioness/colonial? i forgot her name, but john delorean's model wife also is a fairfax girl!!! and her little sister also was at fairfax while i was there. we turned out more actresses and actors than athletes until the 80s when we became a basketball power and cranked ourt sean higgins and chris mills and since many good collegiate players.

Philbin is a dear caught in highlights. Not quite ready for Prime Time. His downfall will be hiring previous Coaching failures the like of Mike Sherman who fancy themselves talent evaluators who lack insight into their own personal biases. The Dolphins are a good football team, but their good is not quite good enough!!

Make no mistake!!! I am a Canes Fan with a long family tradition however, Top 10??? With that Schedule??? Please!!! This Canes team is playing one of the softest schedules in the history of College Football. Zero cudos! and no credit here at all---totally unimpressed to this point. D'Onofrio is up at the Podium, running his pie hole, just wait! He needs to close his mouth until he beats FSU in Tallahassee,----This is the University of Miami Hurricanes!! Owners of 5 NCAA Football National Championships. Tell me? When did that change?? I know my take is hard--but so is life in the Coaching profession. Deal with it, Beat FSU or shut up!!!

el dukito,

sure hope that #17 stays sound and doesn'y have the "plunkett experience". the young man can throw and run, but needs some kind of rushing offense to hold the the DL and LBs at bay. let us see if they can handle a decent buffalo defense that has some real QBing issues.

(the real) dave,

you have some real playcalling issues if then coaches detest running and blow a game by running wide on 4th and a centimeter, as they didi against the ravens. you are as true a dolphin fan as any who post here, but i think you must realize that establishing a run game means more than taking two rejects of other teams. wasn't philbin an OL coach somewher along the way? as of today, nobody is comparing him to vince lombardi or even the successful wherever he went (ground) chuck knox, who turned the rams around immediately after prothro drafted great players who didn't take to his coaching. still a while to go and the dolphins are quite capable of reaching the playoffs.

thanks Baby..

but just in case, special ed, blow me asswipe...

Miami has $20 million if unspent cap space. Think we could use that on the OL?

Posted by: Tom | October 14, 2013 at 03:13 PM

Tom, The man has to have money to "GO WEST".....

oh boy...

you need a hug buddy?..why the hostility?..

FZB, I just posted one of my own recent pics taken just a month or so ago when we went back to OC for a visit. You can find it by clicking on my blue name, then hitting the blog.

...and for those of you who haven't seen what Woodcock looks like, just scroll down 5 pics and voila! The old geezer himself!!!

OC, Have you and Joe Montana ever been seen at the same place and the same time???????????

I know, Anti. I just hate what I did on December 14, 1982.

FZB,Flynns agent has to be brilliant,What QB that's only started 2 games in his NFL carrer but yet get signed for Millions in Seattle and again with the Raiders, Only to be beaten out by rookies Wilson and Pyror....
Move along, Nothing here to see....

Hey OC,

Nice familia bro, I wish nothing but the best to your boy at UCLA, hopefully we have another doctor...its always good when you kid does better than you and in my case waaaayyyy better.

Anti, how right you are Matt Flynn has made millions of just one or two games, good for him.

Obi made millions and did nothing. His faux bios are both ghost written.

OC Dolphin,

total agreement on the "face of beauty"!!! we won't hold it against her that she banged every male "star" in hollywood- i mean, who would pass up the chance.

the course at palos verdes is a bear, especially for one who can't swing a driver very well. i did, however, manage to lift ten drives in a row there and remember one hole somewhere near nine or ten where you had to cross a ravine to get from the tee to the green. it is really a great course, especially compared to the two i started off on- valencia and san dimas (the smog was so bad i think i crawled up to the tee at 18, my first round and i ben hoganed it using a one iron on every shot till i could use my mallet-head putter).

On the Bartman front, those idiot Cubs fans have bad memories, their short stop Gonzalez dropped a perfect double play ball that would have ended the 8th with the Cubs still up 3-1 going into the 9th .

I guess they'll continue to blame the poor guy for eternity..

Anyone want to buy a Chad Henne Dolphins #7 NFL authentic jersey,, cheap? Got an away white, home aqua.. did I mention both can be had cheap? Great for entertaining or doing yard work in.

david, guess your right as usual... national socialism has nothing to do with socialism & facism has no socialist ideals. far right (American)agenda is..? government take over of a nations media, government control over education, industry, health care, peoples freedoms? think not. The extreme people of the Tea Party & similar organizations must have a hidden agenda of all the above since they don't advertise implementing any of those ideas. They are the far kooks of the right, right? American Progressive Movement & Liberals are reaching for all powers to control every one of those facets in society. The lone personal choice afforded to the citizen is to decide how many free abortions they choose. American liberal movement is a combination of facism & socialism.

shadow. Apparently Miami Dolphins run the ball best when they attempt behind Pouncey & Incognito. Fins need to run less shotgun & have more rushing attempts.

^^ National Retard Movement

Join now! joins Special Ed in doing a very good impersonation of Roid Rage. Someone or someones who are too queer to come out of the closet and proudly proclaim who they are. Passionately engrossed on the phallus liberati.

Breaking News:

Washington Redskins drop the work "Washington" from their name because it is embarrassing.

I'll take AJ Feeley Jersey, Jimbo..

-since major media have conglomerated to a few companies that overwhelmingly support republicans, there goes your media argument.

-since obamacare, at it's core, is a market based solution including insurance companies, (and invented by nixon and endorsed by the heritage foundation and republicans for 40 years), there goes your healthcare argument.

-with the deficit now at 4% of the GDP, (as opposed to 10% when bush left office, the stock market hitting record highs, consumer confidence trending upward, a stabilized auto industry still employing millions, industry has been doing very well. there goes THAT argument.

throwing around the words nationalist socialist to describe a business friendly president who implemented a republican solution to healthcare is not only offensive to jews and other victims of the nazi's, it is also offensive to the men and women that served this country then and who defeated that insanity. quite ironic, considering your chosen field of employment, but then again, you DO call yourself a bully.

the good news for me is, not only is he your president, but he's also your boss!

Tannehill is much better so far this year and has shown that he has real NFL talent but sadly he is not being given chance to excell. He has 6 TDs, 5 INTs and been sacked 24 times. That translates to 19 TDs, 16 INTs and 77 sacks for the season. SEVENTY SEVEN SACKS... wll that's if Tannehill makes it that far. And who do we blame for this?

Well the ostriches in our group blame Parcells for Ireland's lunatic moves much like the nitwits in America blame Bush almost 6 years later for Obama's incompetence.

By the way, here's BB...

http://thereaganwing.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/head-in-sand.jpg

and FZB... nice suit FZB

http://peakcare.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/head-in-the-sand.jpg

and here's david and his band of expatriate Miamians in CA. gotta love the choreagraphy...

http://shaunie.me/wp-repository/uploads/2013/08/head_in_sand.jpg-w450h297.jpg

But those with their eyes open know Ireland is to blame. He missed a great opportunity this past offseason by not addressing Miami's OL deficiencies.

Hey maybe I'm looking for treasure...

The Dodgers had a great pitching performance from that fat korean dude...he was light's out but we're still ahead..

Go Card's !

Colt's lose ! , now after we beat the Bills we'll also be 4-2 ...and then we go up to NE and we'll beat them up there, yeah that's right...no I'm not smoking pot either.

I hope Anti had a good time at the Murph....it sure beats looking for floating rocks out in space and giving them names like ...4570962jodn-sdee

So our offensive coordinator said " there will be no changes to our offensive line" which means of course that THERE WILL BE CHANGES TO THE O LINE..

FZB

You are looking for the long lost Miami Dolphins OL treasure. If you are lucky enough to find it it's worth quadruple its weight in gold.

You are dressed nice unlike our favorite space cadet who's dressed as we would expect. So at least you got that going for you.

Really Cote? HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY?!!! For the natives of this and many other countries in our region, there is no happiness when it comes to Columbus. There was pillaging, murder, rape, torture, disease, destruction and getting thrown off your own land. For most that came in contact with Columbus, happiness was not in order

So true Mr B but without me you'd be living in a thatched hut in the Everglades.

Mr. Woodcock,

a stroll around exposition park, or a little walk in beautiful miami gardens?

http://www.miamiherald.com/static/media/projects/miami-gardens-gang-incidents/

Didn't Columbus land in like Hispaniola or something that isn't America.

We are embarrassed that our city holds the name of such an imperialist. We demand a name change!

You can keep your existing lands. If you like the language you are using, you can keep it. Going into our exchange will be easier than rowing your canoe, and you will see savings of 2,500 beads per year.

Geez Louise, OC! Come on, man give us some warning I clicked on your blue name and I almost had a coronary. Is that your Halloween mask?

Oye, OC, WTF happened to my pic? Too bad it's not there 'cause I'm a damn good looking man.

No, Woodcock. You can see my Halloween mask when you scroll down on the actual blog to the 5th pic. It's the one on the left.

The horror...the horror

Stand up when you talk about Columbus, my favorite Wop.

Coño, brother, now "That's" a picture. I look like a million five hundred!

A million five hundred dead maggots.

Let's face it, with a face like that, your name ought to be Mr. Buttafuoco.

Yawns.
